In Acapulco, Guerrero, I met a girl called Victoria.
And when I'm on the beach with her, I feel in glory.
Because she is so beautiful, her love can't deny it.
And because she loves me, I love her too.
And so we can both love each other.
Yes, Victoria, you are beautiful.
That's why the girls look at you.
Yes, Victoria, you are beautiful.

When I finished pecking, the rich man came and broke it.
All my corn was taken, I left nothing to eat.
I present here the bill, here you owe 20 pesos.
In the sale of some bulls, 5 pesos of magueyes.
A black, three of the corn that we lend you.
A black, three of the corn that we limit you.
Five pesos of a funda, 7 pesos of cigars, 6 pesos, I don't know what.
But everything is in the account.
In addition, the 20 reals that you took from the store.
How much corn do you have?
You don't pay the store.
But you count with my land to continue sowing it.
Now go to work.
So that you can continue soaping.
I just keep thinking, shaking my head, making my cigar of leaves.
The fool, so shameless, took all my corn.
For his damn plow, the barzon was broken.
If you keep the year going.
The vegetable man in the vegetable van with a horn that's honking like a mariachi band in the middle of the street.
People gather around.

Are you going to play some more Caifanes later or?
We should.
We should, yeah, man.
Definitely.
Fuck it.
Why not?
We have the tape here.
That's why we brought the tape.
Why not?
Yeah.
My mom is not here.
Exactly.
We can play as loud as we want.
Hey, if you guys want to let people know about your band, show, whatever you're doing out there, call 1-800-893-9562.
Tell your friends to go into our little website, skidroadstudios.la.
Right?
Right.
So good.
What else did you play, Hugo?
Uh-oh, the phones are ringing.
Arena Caliente.
Nice.
Hi.
Welcome to San Francisco.
Hello.
Hello.
Tuki.
Who's this?
Hi.
Hi.
We have a caller here.
Who's this?
This is Tuki Dukes.
Hey.
How are you doing?
Tuki Dukes.
Welcome.
Fabulous.
Oh, sorry.
Oh, you can say whatever you want.
Those are the three rules.
No swearing.
No flandering.
Not here.
Not here.
How's it going over there?
Fine.
We are drinking some Jarritos, right?
Yes, Jarritos.
Hi, Desiree.
How are you?
Jarritos con flaming hot Jarritos.
Oh, dang.
What else do we have?
Fanta.
Fanta?
I don't like Fanta, honestly.
Chili con limon.
Yeah, yeah.
Chili con limon?
She knows what I like.
Ah.
Ah.
So, you know, Desiree, is that why you calling?
Why are you calling?
What's going on with you?
What's going on?
Yeah, what are you calling us from?
I'm calling from the city.
From where?
What city?
Can you hear me?
Oh, now we could.
Yeah, we hear you.
I can hear you.
Okay.
Yeah, we hear you.
Do you still like me?
Do you still like me?
Who?
Me.
Chucky.
Oh, sometimes.
Me?
Where are you?
Do you remember me?
Yeah, I remember you.
This is Lee.
This is Lee.
It's Kitty.
What?
So, hey, what do you...
What's so funny?
I'm not being funny.
We can't hear you.
Can you hear me?
No, we hear you, but it sounds like a delay.
I can hear you.
We sound fine to you, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, good.
Everything's good.
Yeah.
Did you like...
I'm gonna put her headphones on tighter.
They're too...
They're too loud.
I'm gonna remove her big dancing hair.
My head's too big.
You have a watermelon-sized...
Your head's big?
I think mine is...
Her head.
Yeah, I know.
My head's smaller than hers, though.
Hey, hey, hey, no.
Let's not go that far.
I think Locura's head is kind of...
No, he has a good head.
What?
I think Locura's head is kind of...
I think Locura's head is kind of...

Yeah, I'm the co-founder of Rodriguez's.
Hey, Chucky, don't you remember being here?
You came here with Karen Centerfold.
I remember.
Do you remember me?
I very much remember you.
I did a really great job.
Yeah, you did a great job.
You molested me.
You were a little tipsy, and you were having a good time.
You remember?
So I wasn't boring.
Right.
Right.
No, you were anything but boring.
I feel like being right now.
You were the life of the party, man.
I feel like you were being right now.
I mean, isn't that the point to entertain?
What a day.
That's the point.
What if I just sat there and stared at the microphone?
I don't know.
I'm staring at something else right now, but I can't say it.
So what up?
So what up?
What are you doing?
How was your day?
Are you in a band?
Tukey, tell us a joke.
I think you're a singer, right?
Yeah, yeah.
Tell us a joke.
Tell us a joke.
Tukey, say something funny.
There are two muffins in a toasted oven.
One muffin says to the other, it's getting hot in here.
And then the other muffin says.
I didn't know muffins could talk.
That's great.
That's a good one.
Holy shit.
Okay.
That's nice.
Hey, thanks.
Thank you for calling us.
Thanks a lot, Tukey.
Enjoy the music.
Keep on rocking.
Tell Karen Centerfold.
She's still online?
I said she's online.
I think she's gone.
She's gone.
Yeah.
Wow.
Okay.
So we have Desiree Rodriguez.
Hi, Desiree.
How have you been?
What's new with you?
Not a whole lot.
Just working and living.
Okay.
The reason I have you here in the show and I want to have you here is because I know you for five years and I know you've been doing a lot of things for bands out there.
Even though you're not in the band, but you're always being out there helping bands.
Why are you helping all these bands?
I don't know.
It just happens.
Really?
It's something that you.
It's just happened since I was really young.
I started balling.
I started volunteering at shows and booking and stuff and that's it.
Right.
What's your favorite venue out here in LA?
Oh, dang.
Don't ask me that.
That's really hard.
Why not?
Just name only one.
I know you have probably two.
I'm so conflicted.
I think I have two.
Yeah.
I know.
See?
So just pick one.
Well, I'd have to give all the, I'd have to say The Snow.
The Snow?
I would have to.
I can't say anything else.
Good.
Good.
Good.
I'm going to give you the Snow.
I'm going to give you the Snow.
I'm going to give you the Snow.
I'm going to give you the Snow.
I'm going to give you the Snow.
I'm not giving you anything else.
Good.
Good.
Good choice.
Yeah.
Good choice.
I would too.
I think it would be, the other one would be First Space?
Yes.
Definitely.
First Space.
Yeah.
Every Monday night.
That's where I go.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Some listeners maybe don't know about a small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small small You're doing Mondays or?
No, Sean Carnage does Mondays.
I just volunteer, help him out, hang out there and have a great time because those shows are the best thing to happen to me.
But yeah, every Monday, Sean Carnage Mondays.
Check it out.
Nice.
How often do you do shows at The Smell?
For how long?
Probably about five years, three years?
Yeah, probably about, maybe four.
I'm not even sure.
So you saw like a couple bands like they were like when they were little.
Now most of those bands, some of them are like quite big.
Yeah.
And how do you feel about that?
That you witnessed something that, you know, was on the making or?
It's pretty exciting.
It's kind of cool like being in other states and like seeing your friends like in some magazine.
It's kind of fun.
Don't think too much of it, though, like because everybody's doing their thing.
There's really no one to give credit to.
Maybe Jim.
Jim deserves some credit.
But yeah.
Yes, definitely.
We're trying to have him here in the show.
Oh, you should.
Who's Jim?
Jim Smith from The Smell.
He's the.
He runs the.
One of the founders of The Smell.
Yeah.
Yeah, actually there were three, right?
There were three.
And Jim's the only one who who's still full time doing it every day.
Very cool.
Yeah, yeah.
He has love for it.
Yes, he does.
It's his wife.
It's his family.
I think.
I think it's his lover more than the wife.
A little bit of both.
You know, in the alley.
I don't want to give out any more details.
She meets him in the alley every night.
In the alley.
So smells in there.
Dang.
Oh, phones are ringing.
No, it's not for me.
Hi.
Oh, God.
So we're going to have a dance and roses.
If this is gossip radio.
This is piñata hour.
This is Lee.
Well.
It might be gossip radio, but sharing asshole radio.
Who's this?
Yeah.
All right.
Good caller.
Go start.
Her phone.
Yes.
Do you know what kind of the phone she has?
It's a Metro PCS.
Pretty cheap one.
Doesn't really work when we try and talk to her.
So that's that.
But it works, right?
Uh huh.
Gets the jobs done.
Okay.
Apparently.
I'm sure she'll call back soon.
So are you doing any big shows that we should know?
No.
I'm working on this festival with some kids who have never thrown a show before, but they really want to start off big by doing like a really huge festival late July.
So they reached out to me.
So I think it's going to be July 23rd somewhere in L.
A.
I mean.
You have plenty of time.
I think I have a lot of things.
I'm just working on it.
I don't know what's going on.
That's that.
That's your.
What do you have in mind now?
What I have in mind?
I'm just helping them connect with like artists and bands like they need help contacting all the people that they want to play that show and all the artists and stuff.
So that's what I'm doing.
And they're going to pay me.
So that's fun.
Oh, you're going to get paid?
That's nice.
Yeah.
Pretty cool.
Who have you worked with recently that you really enjoyed working with?
Oh, I have a couple of new favorite bands that I've been working with.
There's a band called Masks, which is a friend of mine and he's a front man.
And they're really, really talented, but they're barely starting to play shows.
They've played only a few shows, like I don't know how many, but under 20, I want to say that I've seen.
And they're really, really good.
They're playing this Saturday a lot one with Moses Campbell and Frank Mastin.
OK.
Yeah, it's going to be awesome.
I don't know.
That's that's that's.
Maybe maybe to get them some exposure, you could bring them on the radio show sometime.
Yeah, maybe they would they would love to do that.
I'm sure.
Yeah, play on the show.
Yeah, we have you here as a guest, but at the same time, you can always, you know, come back here to the show.
You can come back here anytime, bring a band with you along.
You know, just, you know, we want to the reason we have this show is because we want to let people know about these bands.
They're from here and they're just around the corner and they play.
And, you know, they play with cool bands.
Well, don't don't let them know that it's that easy for me because then I'll be bothered a lot.
But yeah, there's a bunch of bands I would love to.
Don't worry about that.
So also tell us tell me about your South by Southwest experience.
How was that?
This year it was super fun.
I went with that band Masks.
They were nice enough to take me out.
They played a bunch of good shows.
I saw a lot of great like bands at the smell showcase.
That was fun.
And I saw I got to see LL Cool J for free.
Lil B, Odd Future, Little Dragon, like a bunch of great bands.
It was so much fun and free booze the whole time.
Yeah.
I mean, not that I drink or anything.
I know.
We know that.
Not that we advocate.
Yeah, please.
Please don't tell anybody.
We won.
You can always check this show later on iTunes.
Might be on iTunes maybe a little bit later.
But yeah, we try to get the shows on iTunes at least no more than a day afterwards.
I'm going to work hard to get this one online fast because like I said, I'm going to be out of town till Monday, which leads me into, you know, the More Music Radio pod that's usually on Thursdays at 10 and the LaFrost and Moe show that's on Fridays at 9.
Those shows aren't going to happen this week.
But still, you know, go ahead and check the shows.
They have it on iTunes as well, right?
Yeah.
Go listen to the old episodes.
Yeah.
Listen to last week's episodes.
We'll be back strong the following week.
Yes.
Back strong.
Mm-hmm.
We're also on Facebook.
Are you on Facebook, Desiree?
Yes.
Oh.
Sometimes.
So Desiree, how do people get a hold of you if they want to work with you?
What's the best way?
Well.
Is it word of mouth or?
I think.
If you know somebody who knows me and you need.
Need to get my information.
You sound like you're not really looking for any additional responsibilities at the moment, right?
I don't know.
I'm really tired of like the wrong people getting a hold.
No offense to anybody.
Just like I get a lot of like press kits that are really cheesy and they freeze my computer.
And it's like, I don't know.
It's a little stressful.
But we'll see.
I mean, I'm sure you can find help somewhere.
Can you name me five venues that you?
People can look into?
That I'm sorry?
That you recommend for people to look into it?
The Smell, Pairspace, Curio, Echo Curio, which used to be.
That's what I've been involved in.
That's on Sunset, right?
Yeah.
There's not a lot going on right now.
Dem Passwords is a great new space.
I don't know.
The Mime got shut down.
People are playing it a lot.
One a lot.
Don't want to endorse it.
But that's going on.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.

Whoa.
So he's tripping.
Yeah, yeah.
Good for him.
You know, that was a big step for him to do that.
Yeah.
Transcending.

Okay.
Cool.
Or you go to the famous Facebook that everybody's promoting.
So what's your Facebook page or your name so people can find you?
Pedro Vega.
Okay, cool.
Hey, thanks for calling, man.
Thanks a lot.
Alright, no problem.
Alright, dude.
Keep it strong.
Keep listening.
Have a good night.
Thank you for calling.
Utah.
Tell your friends.
I guess he's gonna play like a minute or whatever.
I'm gonna play now.
I'm gonna play now.
I'm gonna play now.
I'm gonna play now.
I'm gonna play now.
I'm gonna play now.
I'm gonna play now.
I'm gonna play now.
I'm gonna play now.
The light, it's on.
Hi, welcome to Piñata Hour here with Desiree Rodriguez.
Hi, Desiree.
Hi, hey.
Hey, what's going on?
Don't hit the table.
Come on.
I'm going to break everything here.
This wheelie chair is driving me crazy.
Thank you, man.
That's a great set.
We're going to have more music.
Don't go anywhere.
I also have my friend here who just dropped by.
Hello, say something.
Come on.
Get close to the big black thing right there.
Put it next to your mouth.
Yeah, put it next to your mouth.
I love humans.
Humans.
I think there's more than humans.
I heard there's zombies now.
There's zombies now.
She's listening for sure.
Hi, Gabriela.
How are you?
Good, man.
Got off of work.
Came to visit you.
Yeah.
That's pretty much it.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Hey, okay.
So we are going to go ahead and play the interview.
I had with Mike Watt from the Minutemen.
Now he's going to be playing with the Stooges.
That's so cool.
They just left today.
Right.
Like Iggy Pop?
Yeah.
Yeah, Iggy Pop.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
So Mike Watt is a guy from here, from LA, from Pedro.
I'd seen him a couple of times.
They used to live in Pedro.
I saw him walking by and getting gas and stuff.
This is about Mike, not you.
Huh?
This is about Mike, not you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But that's how I like.
I've seen this.
You know, like, it's like so cool.
Yeah.
Mike Watt.
Anyways.
He's around.
Yeah.
He's been around.
He's a punk rock icon.
Yes.
It's a big deal.
What's up, Vincent?
Hello, Lee.
How are you?
I just wanted to come in and say you guys are doing a great job on the Pinata Hour.
Thanks, man.
Thank you.
Nice, man.
Thank you for supporting.
Nice.
It's all of you.
It's all of you.
All right.
Hey, Jeremy, are you ready?
Cool.
Yeah.
Go for it.
We should give away tickets.
Okay.
So this is the big exclusive interview.
Say what?
We should give away tickets.
Yeah.
I have two tickets to Mocha.
Then we should, like, make it, like, a contest.
Yeah.
So the next caller that calls in.
Yeah.
Free tickets to Mocha.
Yeah.
It's free tickets.
What's the event?
Just Mocha, the museum.
Oh, okay.
Cool.
That's a nice.
Yeah.
Two tickets.
Just give it to me.
Don't forget about the call.
Call in.
Yeah.
Call.
Call.
Call. 1-800-893.
We have to make it a little hard.
Make them answer a question.
Well, think of the questions.
Okay.
Think of the questions.
Play the interview, and then we'll ask a question from the interview.
Yeah.
There we go.
Sounds good.
That's a good 15 minutes of thinking.
So go ahead.
Call.
Call. 1-800-893-9562.
This is the Pinata Hour with Lee and Locura.
Hi.
I'm Lee and Locura here at La Pinata Hour at Skid Row Studios.
And today we have Mike Watt, the Minuteman.
He's here with us, and we're going to have this awesome interview with him Hi, Mike.
How you doing?
Hey, thanks for having me aboard, Lee.
Oh, no problem.
Thank you.
Thank you for allowing us to have this interview with you.
So how you doing?
How have you been?
What are you doing lately?
I just got done with a big tour of the U.
S. and Canada.
Wow.
Playing my hyphenated man opera.
Oh, interesting.
And also you're going to...
I did 51 gigs in 52 days.
Wow.
So you...
Where was the night off?
It was a drive day between Lawrence and Denver.
So now what's ahead of you now?
Are you going to be doing a...
Are you going to go back to tour later?
Yeah, but different tour.
And next week I go...
Well, the Stooges, they do summer festivals over in Europe.
So that's what I'll be doing for the summer.
Wow.
With the Stooges.
How are those guys doing?
Great.
I mean, this is a place where I'm the youngest guy in the band.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
I know.
Right.
Right.
Well, for our listeners, what they don't know is that Mike and I, we both went to the same school.
And what school would that be, Mike?
San Pedro High School.
I was class of 1976.
Wow. 1976.
I know.
Now, I went to the school not too long ago, maybe about a month ago.
I was just driving by 13th Street, and now it has the gates and fences.
And it has changed a lot.
Yeah.
It's different.
Yeah.
More confined.
Right.
Right.
Right.
Were you there when Encino, a teacher by the name Encino was there?
No.
It's hard for me to remember sometimes.
I remember some teachers, though.
Okay.
All right.
Mr. Karg, Mr. Donahue, my electric shop teacher.
I think they had to make a big impression on me to remember.
Sorry.
And also, I remember about Pedro, one of the favorite places I used to go to.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I remember one of the places I used to go see you.
It would be Sacred Grounds.
Yeah.
A coffee shop downtown.
Yeah.
One of the best places to go hang out and learn about St. Peter culture there.
I discovered so many bands.
I saw you there playing at Dos, right?
Yeah.
Right.
And- Oh, by the way, Dos has a new album coming out in July.
Oh, in July.
Okay.
Mm-hmm.
How's it being released?
My own label, Clench Wrench.
Okay.
How long you had that label?
For how long is the-?
I just started at the beginning of this year.
That's what my hyphenated man opera came out on.
Right on.
So Dos will be the second release.
Okay.
That's good to know.
Are those the only releases you're doing on this year?
Oh, no.
I got a bunch.
That's why I had to start my own label.
Every three months, I'll be putting out another release, because I got a lot of projects in the pipeline.
Nice.
Nice.
Nice.
I also know that you have a podcast show, The What From Pedro.
Yeah.
The What From Pedro show.
Last week, I did my 10-year album.
I did my 10-year anniversary show.
I know.
You've been doing it for ...
You used to do it on radio, right?
Something like FM radio?
Yeah.
Well, it was a pirate station up in Silver Lake.
Oh, okay.
I did that for two years until the government said no more, and they closed that station.
The government.
Yeah.
So I started on the internet here in San Pedro.
Didn't have to drive to Silver Lake anymore.
Nice.
Nice.
So Mike, podcasting is something that we're doing here.
We have about five different shows.
Oh, wow.
On our podcasting network.
I'm a busy guy these days doing a full-time job and then doing the podcasting at night.
I'm just curious how you feel about the internet movement and podcasting.
It's a forum where you can pretty much say and do whatever you want, and as you discovered, as soon as you broadcast over on the government frequencies, they don't like that.
But the internet's wide open.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And you actually can reach more folks.
Right.
That pirate station, I'd get to the four-level interchange, and on my way back to Pedro, I couldn't hear it anymore.
But now somebody in Sarajevo, for example, could hear the What From Pedro show.
Have you been tracking who's been listening to the What From Pedro?
Are you getting listeners from all over the world?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I've seen some comments or things, I don't know, somewhere in shows there, people calling from different...
We had a caller, we had a show last week, and we had a caller from Utah that was listening to our show.
I was like, Utah?
Okay, nice.
That was good.
But that's what's great about the internet.
It's kind of a leveler for us little guys.
Yeah.
I really feel like, you know, as soon as...
It seems like there's a kind of a second revolution in the podcasting.
Yeah.
There's a second revolution in the podcasting world where the content is getting better.
As technology advances, you can produce a show that sounds like as good as a terrestrial radio show in your bedroom.
And it's putting the power kind of back into the individual to get their word out there and say whatever it is they want to say.
That's really the great thing about it.
Hey, Mike.
Yeah.
So, you know, I'm a contact on tour.
I bring my, you know, Mac purse.
I do shows from the road.
Right.
Yeah.
In these days, yeah.
We have the Skype too.
People are recording each other like that too as well.
Right.
I'm gonna do an interview tomorrow on my show with somebody in upstate New York via Skype.
There you go.
That's great.
Yeah.
So, what do you...
This is what's happening about...
Sometimes people will say, oh, it's the bad new days, but there's also some good things.
Right.
Yeah.
And I think it's with the, you know, with this ability, it kind of attracts a lot of fluff, I guess you could say.
But the people that really break through that have the good content, you know, they're gonna be heard and gather a lot of listeners.
Yeah, I agree.
So what can you say to the DIY movement right now?
It's...
Oh, let the freak flag fly.
Yeah.
That's what I noticed now with this, you know, internet radio and different shows.
Bands get to be known quicker, faster, and with this, you know, internet thing.
Yeah.
Mostly the only music I play on my show is what people give me at gigs or send to me.
I don't play commercial stuff.
Right.
What do you consider commercial?
What commercial would be for you?
I'll push by a big label or something.
This is stuff people are doing right in their own pads, you know, garages or bedrooms.
Right.
I have a little say here.
We broadcast Econo here.
Yeah.
I like that.
You like that?
Yeah, that's my philosophy also.
I know it is.
I've been watching with Jam Econo for like maybe eight times I watched the show.
I mean the documentary.
So one of my favorite documentaries of music, you know?
Wow.
So you know a little something about the Minutemen now then?
Oh, yes.
So what's going on?
What's going on?
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
So what's going on in Pedro right now?
Is there still a scene in Pedro?
Absolutely there is.
There's a lot of bands.
People move here in fact.
We got some people from Orange County living here because of the scene.
Todd from Recess Records moved here from Torrance.
There's a big healthy scene going on.
Not a lot of clubs to play but there's a lot of bands.
People making music.
Yeah.
Two places that I used to go would be like second grass.
Sacred Ground and the other place on 13th Street in Pacific, the big venue.
Dancing Waters.
Yeah, there we go.
Right.
Nice to go see some.
Right now, that's Martellano Music.
Yeah, yeah.
But people have been doing gigs at the Skate Shop, Sunken City, and at Harold's.
Oh, Harold's Bar in Pacific, yes.
Right.
Yes.
I saw their, lots of bands, the Red Onions, the Leeches.
Right, Leeches.
Yeah, Toys for Tire.
Or Raul Morales, he's my drummer in the Missing Cat.
Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I know Raul.
We played before with the Leeches and the great Kapow.
Yeah, he's a great cat.
Yeah.
Great guy.
You still see him?
Well, yeah, I just got done touring with him.
I played two days ago on KXLU.
We did the opera over the air.
A great station out of Loyola, Maryland.
Right on.
So what are you going to be doing all this time until?
The Stooges take off.
Well, Thursday is Stooges, so it's not very far away.
So, but in the meantime, yeah, I'm getting stuff together.
Like I said, these projects I got, I'm getting them ready for release.
In the fall, I'm going to bring the third opera, Missing Men, to Europe.
And do touring over there.
So I got a very full 2011.
So, Mike, you...
You've had the opportunity to travel the world and play with some amazing musicians because of your talent playing bass.
Do you play any other instruments or do you ever switch it up once in a while from the bass?
A little bit of guitar.
Yeah.
But not much.
Although I did, this hyphenated man, I did write on Dee Boone's guitar, his Telecaster.
But I usually, yeah, stick to bass.
And what's the first city you're hitting with the Stooges?
It's called Newcastle.
It's in the north of England.
And those must be, I mean, can't even imagine as a musician, myself and Lee as well, just can't even imagine what the energy is like playing at a Stooges show.
Oh, yeah.
They're incredible.
Those songs are timeless.
And Ig is, well, he's the balladist.
He's the guy that's on the boat.
There's nothing like being on a stage with that guy.
I mean, his work ethic is incredible.
I saw you, I saw Coachella.
Oh, that was the first one.
Yes.
And I saw the video.
Coachella released his video.
I think they only released one.
But I saw the footage and I see you playing and I noticed that he jumped on top of your bass now.
And you look really nervous, but you were doing your thing and he just jumped on top.
It was just awesome.
Yeah.
Amazing.
He's full of surprises.
Right, right.
But I want to play my best for them because if you think about it, I don't even think we'd have a punk scene if it wasn't for Stooges.
Right.
Oh, yes.
So I have much respect and I try my hardest when I'm with them.
That gig was eight years ago.
So actually I've been working for them longer than I was a Minuteman or a Firehose.
Yeah.
You know what?
The amazing thing about you is that you've been with so many different bands, different styles.
You play with Sonic Youth, right?
Yeah, they're good friends of mine.
I just think if I put my bass in different situations, I can learn more about it.
So I'm into trying everything I can as far as working the bass to different kinds of people and music.
Right, right.
Have you ever heard of Rodrigo and Gabriela?
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
That would be my dream to see you playing bass with them.
Can we make that happen?
I have to try and work on that.
That's a great idea, though.
They're incredible.
Oh, yeah.
I think if we put a bill like that, we have you guys come down here and play, that will be history in the making.
Expect.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, what else?
So we know that you are going to be playing soon with the Stooges.
That's got to be exciting.
Yeah, it is.
It's one of those...
Every dull moment, playing a Stooges gig, I'll tell you.
They seem to go by like in five minutes.
When you play with them or when you play like that kind of sound, does it take you back to like 85, 87?
It takes me back to teenage in the 70s when I was hearing those records for the first time.
Have you ever thought of, does it ever come across your mind that you will be playing with the Stooges?
No, no.
That's a total mind blow.
I would have never guessed that in a million years.
You've been blessed in a way.
Yeah.
Very, very, very blessed.
It's worth it.
Yeah.
Much.
Yeah.
Oh, by the way, this is the Piñata Hour.
Piñata Hour.
Thank you, Mike, for letting us talk to you.
No problem.
We really, really appreciate it.
And we thank you for supporting also the DIY.
That's how we're doing it here.
Jeremy from SkateRoads.com.
He's our angel.
He's like...
He's helping us out.
That's so great.
But those are my roots.
You know, I come from it and I don't ever want to leave.
Absolutely.
Punk rock changed my life as well.
You know?
That's great, Lee.
Yeah.
With that San Pedro culture and all that.
Thank you so much, Mike.
We really appreciate this.
And make sure everyone out there listening, check out the Watt from Pedro show.
Yeah, PWFPS.
There you go.
And check us out sometime, Mike, when you get a chance.
SkidRoad.la.
We got a bunch of different shows, mostly punk rock or music-related shows.
Great.
And also with a lot of punk spirit into it.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's happened.
You know, I never thought of it as much of a style of music as a state of mind.
Everybody freedom.
Let the freaks hang fine.
This is a hot attack.
Make you feel this way.
Notifies to measure.
No words can define.
Dude, I wasn't recording.
What?
Just kidding.
Ha, ha, ha.
I mean, I'm trying to say, how can I express, let alone possess.
See, this is a hot attack.
Makes you feel this way.
This way.
Is it true?
Yeah.
Hello.
We're back.
So how was that Mike Watt interview?
Man, thanks so much to Mike Watt for doing that for us, man.
That was really special.
It was.
That's definitely a highlight here at Skid Row Studios.
Too soon.
Yeah, yeah.
Too soon.
I feel like Justin Bieber.
It feels undeserving a little bit.
We haven't been on the air that long, but that's great.
Thanks a lot to Mike Watt.
Yeah.
Thank you also.
I forgot his name, but his PR is really special.
Really nice guy.
I'm going to give him props.
He's the one that put it together, too.
And also thank Mike Watt for telling us a little bit about him, right?
You know who Mike Watt is, Desiree?
Can you hear me?
Yeah.
He's the one guy from those bands.
Yeah.
I heard he's like a punk rock pioneer.
He played this band a lot.
Didn't he invent?
I saw him there playing dolls.
What'd you say?
He came down the Oregon Trail on the punk rock wagon.
The punk rock pioneer.
Piñata Hour.
Piñata Hour.
What kind of paisa jams did you play?
The paisa hits, the paisa delic movement.
That was earlier.
Lorela Cura?
Yes, early.
Early.
You missed out.
Too bad.
Damn work.
You can listen to it on iTunes.
We are on iTunes.
Yes.
Go to iTunes.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Go to the website.
We create a song list.
A list of all the songs that we play.
And you don't even have to download it.
You just like play.
No, you can go on to skidrow.la and Jeremy posts the song list right on the website.
Any info about the music here?
Music that Locura plays?
You can go to his Facebook page.
Hugo Madrigal Locura.

We're walking through town.
Night clubbing.

We walk like a ghost.
We learn dances, brand new dances Like the nuclear bomb When we're nightclubbing Bright white clubbing Oh, isn't it wild Oh, isn't it wild Oh, isn't it wild It's time to play The devil was wiser It's time to rebel He asked her to give back The money she spent My wild love went right in She wrote to the sea She wrote to the sea She gathered together Some shells for her head She wrote and she wrote on She wrote for a while Then stopped for an evening And laid her head down She wrote on to Christmas And laid her head down And laid her head down And laid her head down And laid her head down And laid her head down And laid her head down And laid her head down And laid her head down And laid her head down And laid her head down She rode to the farm She rode to Japan And re-entered a town By this time the weather Had changed one degree She asked for the people To let her go free My wild love is crazy She screams like a bird She moans like a cat When she wants to be heard My wild love went riding She rode for an hour She rode and she rested And then she rode on Come on Come on!
Oh, oh, oh, oh Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Keep on ridein' Do you smile when the lights are low?
Can you take a simple moment and turn it into gold?
Is there something special you can touch without your hands?
A gift without a price tag beyond the body of a man?
More than a hand to hold, the touch is in something, the something they call soul.
Underneath what you think you know, rented satisfaction like the void will turn cold.
When precious isn't precious to touch without your hands, there's nothing you can purchase with the body of a man.
More than a hand to hold, the touch is in something, the something they call soul.
More than a hand to hold, the touch is in something. the something they call soul.
The touch is in something, the something they call soul.
The touch is in something.
