I mean, it is a big deal any time you got first-round picks being swapped around in the middle of the season, but I don't think it was that big of a deal.
I don't think it cripples the Browns like some people say, and I don't think it makes the Colts an instant contender.
Look, the Colts, I like Ahmad Bradshaw, to be honest with you.
I think he's just as talented.
I think you can get backs in the NFL.
I think there's a lot of good players, good running backs sitting on the sideline.
This is nothing new.
This has been the consensus among a lot of people.
Mike Lombardi, the new GM of the Browns, you got to start from scratch.
Brandon Whedon's going to help you win a Super Bowl.
Trent Richardson, forget it.
They got to hit it on a quarterback.
So now they got two first-round picks.
Supposedly, they're looking to get another one.
It's the way you got to build it.
Trent Richardson looked very pedestrian today.
He's going to get a lot of picks.
Versus San Francisco.
Ahmad Bradshaw looked to me like he has more burst.
But I think Richardson will help the Colts.
Now they have the first and third overall picks from draft two years ago.
And it helps the Browns.
It's one of those rare win-win scenarios.
One of those interesting trades that happen in the middle of a season.
It's not that many of them that have happened over the years in the middle of a season.
Quite a bit like the Herschel Walker trade.
Happened in the middle of a season.
Who else got traded in the middle of the year?
Eric Dickerson got traded in the middle of the season.
That was a big one.
A few other ones, too.
But, you know, I think it's becoming that basketball mode.
People realizing, hey, you're at the very top or you're at the very bottom.
There is no middle ground.
Middle ground, you're going to be picking, having bad draft picks every year.
And you're not going to be able to turn it around.
Unless you've got a high-end player.
High pick.
So, I like it.
I applaud.
I applaud the Browns for what they're doing.
Even though the Twittersphere lit up.
Saying, oh, the season's done.
Why would you do something like that?
I don't think the season's done.
Who knows?
They went out and won today.
Went out and did something today.
That was the big thing.
Yeah, five to the Jets as well.
It was another big trade.
Carson Palmer last year or two years ago to the Raiders.
Yes.
Middle of the season.
I don't know.
Good luck to the Browns.
At least they're pushing the envelope.
Another story that really caught my attention.
Part of the Hollywood Reporter.
MIA.
Remember MIA?
Paper Planes, 2012.
2012, remember in the Super Bowl halftime show?
There's a little bit of controversy because she flipped the bird during the halftime show.
Which, you know, big freaking deal, right?
Side story.
I got kicked out of a Celtic game once about four or five years ago.
I was really into punk music at the time.
And the camera was showing.
I said to my buddy about five minutes before, I said, you know what?
I'm punk rock.
They show me on that camera.
I'm flipping them off.
Sure enough, the kiss cam wasn't on me and my buddy, but it was right in front of us.
Boom.
Throw the finger out there.
Really full of myself that I had really pulled something off because I'd never seen that in an arena before.
Five minutes later, tap on the shoulder.
Ejected.
I got come on.
The guy was like, oh, you know, there are kids at this game.
Give me a break.
A freaking finger.
But it's amazing.
My point of the story is the NFL is suing MIA for a million and a half dollars, $1.5 million.
And they refuse to pay her, which I guess I can kind of see.
But to go back now and sue her for $1.5 million saying that she was in breach of contract.
Because check this out.
She acknowledged the great value of goodwill association.
Yeah.
She was so much appreciated with the NFL and the tremendous public respect and reputation for wholesomeness enjoyed by the NFL.
You're freaking kidding me.
First of all, this song that she, you know, I don't kind of a one hit wonder, I guess.
Right.
The only song that I know of is that paper plane song, which has gunshots in the air as part of the hook.
The song, I look it up.
Paper planes, I guess, is a double entendre for blunts and fake guns.
And fake passports.
Lyrics of the song include, I murder sticks and stones and weed and bongs.
Poison for the system.
How about a little bit of homework, Gestapo?
Com- Com- Com-adant.
Goodall.
This is Gestapo-like tactics.
Why don't we just look that up before they put her on there?
Her lawyer had a great response, I thought.
With its weekly felonies by its stars, its bounties placed by coaches on opposing players, homophobic and racist comments uttered by its players on a weekly basis, and complete disregard for health of players and premature deaths that have resulted from the NFL.
Not to mention the raping of public entities that are ready to sacrifice public funds to attract these teams.
Spot on.
The NFL is so full of themselves.
Its reputation for wholesomeness.
You ever go to an NFL training camp?
These guys are thugs and murderers, well not murderers in some cases.
Devoted two episodes to people in the hall of shame full of thugs.
The NFL is the balls to sue MIA, who they know damn well, but she was all about suing for one and a half years.
That's more money I'm going to make in my life.
The NFL, because its reputation for wholesomeness.
Good lord.
Looking at some other games, some other, or some other items.
This week in the NFL.
Said it was an interesting week.
What about the Eagle Chief game?
That was something.
Eagles, everybody's darling, revolutionizing the sport after week one.
Everybody was on because they played a bad Redskins team.
Rolled them in the first half.
Didn't really do anything in the second half.
Now they're revolutionizing Chip Kelly.
Tell you what, that Chiefs defense is legitimate.
I love watching Andy Reid back in Philadelphia too.
Andy Reid looks like a porist in Europe.
He's got that belt on, looks like a fanny pack that he's wearing for the headset.
His mustache.
A lot of respect for a guy that rocks the same mustache for 20 years.
Probably has corn flakes in there from the early 90s.
But you know what, I'm going to give it to Andy Reid.
He looks like he's actually coaching.
He's still calling plays.
Which is more than the majority of these NFL coaches do.
What about the Chiefs defense?
Tamba Hawley.
I actually worked with Tamba Hawley at Penn State.
When I was an assistant strength guy at Penn State, Tamba was there.
He's the beast.
We did a lot of manual resistance exercises.
We did like a Jane Fonda type thing.
The guy would lay down on his side and just lift his leg up for the hips.
He would lift me up and at the time, 220 pounds.
Just lift me up like nothing.
Knew he was going to be a great player and he is.
Poe, the nose tackle.
Houston.
Guy Houston lighting it up.
Brandon Flowers.
Jamal Charles.
Chiefs are real.
I am full in on the Chiefs bandwagon.
I think they could take one from the Broncos.
Of course they had the Chiefs doing that brave chant at the end of the game.
Which leads me to talk about Rick Riley.
Another clown.
Another keyboard jockey jock sniffer I really have no time for.
But he wrote an interesting article.
Really raised the eyebrows of a lot of people.
Defending the Redskin name.
Personally I don't really have a problem with that name.
It doesn't bother me.
It's been around forever.
There's a real problem with it.
Why doesn't the NFL put some money into it and get all the tribe leaders together and say hey does this really bother you?
Could it be that tough?
Sit them all down.
You know?
These guys, they're making millions off of these casinos anyways.
But Rick Riley brought up some interesting points.
Said that the word Oklahoma is actually a Choctaw name for red people.
Thought that was interesting.
There's actually some football teams.
There's actually some football teams within the state of Oklahoma that the high school teams are named Redskin.
They love the name.
Team in Arizona.
Redskins.
So I don't know.
Is it really that bad?
And supposedly there was a research study done.
Said 90% of the teams were redskins.
Said 90% of Native Americans weren't offended.
I don't know.
Again, people claim shoddy research all the time.
But they said 90% of them weren't offended.
Of course, the commandant says if one person is offended we need to listen.
I don't know.
Can't they find out if they're really that offended?
And if they're that offended then hey, change the name.
But if they're not offended, screw it.
They're really that bad.
Redskins.
You know.
The team.
White folk.
You know.
There's a team.
They call themselves.
I don't know.
You know.
Go around and around.
But Raleigh took a lot of heat.
But how about the Chiefs?
And the chant and the brave chant?
I don't know.
I don't think the Redskins will change it.
But who knows.
NFL does have a reputation for wholesomeness that they need to.
They need to obtain.
Wow.
Guys like Tony Romo.
There were minutes of shooting up painkillers before the Chiefs game bruised ribs.
How is that not performance enhancement?
How does a guy not get shot up with painkillers?
And everybody knows it.
It's well reported.
They're like, oh, he'll do anything to play.
That does not enhance his performance if he's not feeling pain?
Doesn't make any sense.
Steelers.
My boy Todd Haley in the news.
Antonio Brown supposedly confronted Todd Haley.
Supposedly they're in disarray.
Players only mean.
And what came out of it?
No one less than four years of NFL experience is allowed to play ping pong or pool in the headquarters.
It's a way to come down, fellas.
It's going to win you some games.
Oh, wait a minute.
You play for three years?
No ping pong.
Yeah, it's going to translate to wins.
They got a lot of issues.
Excuse me and take a sip of my beer.
I'm going to go to the gym.
I'm going to go to the gym.
I'm going to go to the gym.
I'm going to go to the gym.
I'm going to go to the gym.
I'm going to go to the gym.
I'm going to go to the gym.
I'm going to go to the gym.
Yeah, it's going to translate to wins.
They got a lot of issues.
Excuse me and take a sip of my beer.
What else we got?
Getting back to Eagles Chiefs.
Riley Cooper must have dropped three balls.
He's afraid of touching brown balls.
Hey, no.
I took that joke from Sweating Mullets.
Chiefs.
Chiefs, again, coming back.
Chiefs got a big game coming up next week.
Yeah.
They got the Broncos next week.
That could be the AFC Championship game.
How about the Eagles, though?
They've lost eight in a row at home, I believe.
And the last four most recent home openers, I thought this was an interesting stat I read, the last four home openers they had, which was the week before San Diego, they lost two, have gone on to win the Super Bowl that very season.
Saints, Packers, Giants, and Ravens.
And this year, San Diego, no way San Diego goes out and wins the Super Bowl this year.
No way.
Actually, especially after watching them play.
That's an enigma team.
San Diego is just one of those teams that's just up and down.
Might end up eight and eight.
Probably seven and nine.
Look great one week, terrible the next week.
Speaking of which, Pats, Bucs.
Patriots 23, Bucs three.
Bucs are a nightmare.
Even though they're loaded with talent.
They're a nightmare.
They're a nightmare.
They're a nightmare.
They're a nightmare.
I think the Patriots defense looked good.
I think they're great actually.
D lines never looked better.
Back in, now they actually have playmakers in the back end with Talib, and Dennett, and Arrington.
You got guys who can make plays.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that they played the Bucs, Jets, and the Bills.
Three of the most anemic offensive teams out there.
Another thing.
Why all these fans?
Why all of those fans, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of those, for all of He said that the Bears were starting to The Bears would fake injuries If a team was starting to really Get a little rhythm for them So now every Jaguar fan that paints their face And shaves their head Wears jerseys of guys 10 years Younger than them They see a guy get hurt after the Team makes a big play and they start booing him Ridiculous Very disappointing Erlaka For even coming out and saying that Why would you rat your team out Like that Started today in the Pats game Pats went out and kept the plays again Stopped booing the Bucs I don't know Speaking of the Patriot way How about Ken Burrell Tompkins Undrafted free agent Was arrested 7 times by the time he was 18 years old Expelled from 3 different high schools Talk about red flags They said they should have saw something with Hernandez Let me see something with this guy Ended up out Playing at El Camino High School Tore it up Ended up at Cincinnati Was an undrafted free agent Looked good today Patriot way Gonna reform this young man Expelled from 3 different high schools Think after the second one you'd Wake up Arrested 7 times before he was 18 Tearing it up Making millions of dollars Well probably not millions But soon to have millions Patriots 23 Bucs 3 What else we got?
Green Bay losing to Cincinnati in a shocker Not really I thought Cincinnati was alright But Green Bay had a 21 point lead Blew it Clay Matthews made a great play Ben Jarvis Greenellis forced a fumble Guy who never fumbles 34 Cincinnati Green Bay 30 Cleveland 31 Minnesota 27 After all that bullshit about Trent Richardson Brian Hoyer's not that bad of a player Not that bad of a quarterback 30 of 54 34 34 34 34 34 34 34 34 34 24 34 34 34 34 34 34 34 34 34 34 34 Ryan for his head right now.
Eli as well.
0-3.
They're not going to rebound this year.
They just don't have it up front.
They're no good.
Both sides of the ball.
It was a trademark for them.
Going to struggle the rest of the year.
Dallas 31, St. Louis 7.
Baltimore 30, Houston 9.
That was an interesting game.
No Ray Rice.
I don't know if something happened to Arian Foster.
He only had 12 carries.
Baltimore 30, Houston 9.
Tennessee 2-1 over San Diego 20-17.
Miami.
Are they real?
27, Atlanta, who I picked to go to the Super Bowl.
Where's Lord Green?
I'm talking in hypotheticals.
Stupid hypothetical.
But Miami, are they real?
Brings me to this twit bag.
At just fantastic.
Is this year my Dolphins finally break through the Pats?
AFC East Stranglehold.
I don't think so.
I think they take one from the Pats because they always do.
Dolphins-Patriots always an interesting rivalry.
I think the Dolphins end up 10-6.
Patriots 11-5.
I think the Patriots take it.
Do like Tannenhill though.
He's a play out like Hotline as well.
Both of them.
Another interesting game in the pros.
Indy 27, San Fran 7.
San Fran 7.
San Fran 7.
San Fran 7.
San Fran 7.
San Fran 7.
San Fran looking pedestrian again.
Two weeks in a row.
One and two.
Kaepernick does not look like the guy he did in the first week or the guy he did in the last half of the season.
It's amazing though.
Now Phil Simms is saying all the read option is being stopped.
The read option is being stopped.
True, but they don't make a commitment to it.
They stop doing it.
Look, the read option is always going to be there because it's just another way to run an inside zone, which didn't run anyway.
So when that DN bites down, he's just going to pull it.
The inside zone game will still be there.
Probably for the rest of, till the end of time.
But it's not going away.
It's not like all of a sudden they figured it out.
Look it, I'm a jerk off high school football coach and I can figure it out.
You crash the DN and you loop the inside linebacker around.
Okay, it's not that difficult of a thing to stop.
But you got to make a commitment to it.
You got to see what they're doing and then come back at it.
Make the adjustment there.
Oh, they're scraping him.
We're going to bring it around.
We got to log the end and get out around.
So it's not like, oh, they figured it out in the off season.
You play this gap, I play that gap.
No.
Problem is they don't want to get their quarterbacks hammered.
And I just don't know about Kaepernick.
I still think he's a great quarterback.
I still think he'll figure it out.
I still think they'll win 11 games.
But they did not look as invincible as one, as all these Niner fans around here thought they were.
Seattle looked great though.
Of course, they were playing Jacksonville.
How about Seattle?
Seattle drafted punt to Brian Anger in the third round of the same draft as Russell Wilson two years ago.
Brian Anger had more punt yards, a 299, as Russell Wilson had 202 yards passing.
Approved.
He was right there.
Jacksonville is a very shrewd franchise.
299 and 202.
No comparison.
He took the punt of five picks ahead of Russell Wilson and prepared everybody for the Blaine Gabbert era.
Well done.
That's why they're Jacksonville.
Go out and pick a punt higher than any punt in the last 20 years.
Todd Sauber, I think.
Yeah.
There you go.
That's why Jacksonville is Jacksonville.
Got to hand it to Pete, though.
As much as I'm not a big fan of him, especially if you're a Pete basher such as myself, go check out his Win Forever website.
It'll make you sick.
But Pete knows what he wants.
And he's went out and gotten the defense to do it.
And he's went out and gotten the quarterback to do it.
And their play action.
And they got the big back.
And they'll be a factor.
No doubt about that.
Jets-Bills.
Ended up watching that game, unfortunately.
The second game.
How about Geno Smith?
The week before.
He had a decent game.
But the week before versus the Pats.
I read this stat.
I thought it was great.
He had a passer rating of 27.6.
If he threw nothing but incomplete passes for a game, he would still have a QB rating of 39.6.
I don't understand how that works.
You would think you'd get a point for completing the pass.
But I guess all the picks brought that down.
But he played pretty well today.
330 yards in the air.
Versus the Bills.
In an insignificant game.
Overcame 20 penalties.
I got a call.
No.
I couldn't hear you.
That's all right.
EJ Manuel.
I don't know about him.
Last throw of the game.
His last play of the game.
Fourth of forever.
He throws the ball down the sideline out of bounds.
Doesn't even give his guy a chance.
I don't know about EJ Manuel.
I don't know about the Jets.
We'll see.
I don't know.
I came on here last week.
Singing the praises of Rexy Ryan.
But we'll see.
Hey.
Win's a win.
2-1 as we enter week four.
Alden Smith.
Second DUI in two years.
Going into rehab after the game today.
How about reading this one?
He had a party a couple months ago.
And he was charging people to get in.
The guy makes $5 million a year or whatever he makes.
He's charging people to get in his party.
And him and his boy, Delaney Walker, who's a friend of a friend.
Pomona's own Delaney Walker was shooting out gats during that party.
Oh, hey, we have a caller.
Coach.
Hey, what's going on?
Rose in Jacksonville.
Hey, Jay Rose.
How you doing?
I'm doing all right.
My ears are burning a little bit.
I think I hear you talking about the Jacksonville Jaguars.
And I don't think I hear you talking well about them.
Why would you?
Have you gone to any games?
Yeah, I have.
And I have to preface this a little bit with the fact that I'm not a Jaguar fan, though.
I am here for work right now.
And I did hear you last week talking about the Tebow situation.
And I do have a little bit of a bone to pick with you.
Go ahead.
Why?
I'm not buying it.
I'm not buying it.
I heard you say last week that you think the Jags should just throw in the towel, bring in Tebow, get a little bit of excitement.
Get a little bit of buzz.
At least sell tickets because they're not going to win games.
Logic is there.
But I don't buy it.
I don't buy it.
You want a multi-tool, exciting quarterback who just is at least exciting and unpredictable?
He drafted Denard Robinson this year.
Yeah, good point.
Haven't even tried him yet.
Haven't even tried him yet.
Hasn't played at all?
Only guy in NCAA history who's through for 1,500 and rushed for 1,500 yards.
You want some excitement?
Put him in there first.
Once you bring Tebow in here, you can't outrun that bell.
He hasn't played at all?
Robinson?
Well, not a quarterback.
Oh, okay.
I mean, if he just wants to start playing around and saying, well, we have it not working, but let's try to be exciting, you got him right there on the bench.
Yeah, good point.
Everything Tebow could be and probably better.
The only thing he's not, he's not the name Tim Tebow, which, you know, the nutbags, the religious nutbags love.
You can't play to them because once you get them in the franchise, it's going to be so much harder to get rid of them with that faction.
I'm thinking about that.
Taking a page from the Cincinnati Reds, excuse me, not Cincinnati, Houston Astros.
And I don't know, just real quick on a side note, the Houston Astros were god-awful this year.
However, they are the most profitable team in the history of Major League Baseball in one season.
Isn't that amazing?
They just cut ties.
All they wanted to do, all they did was sell tickets.
They didn't care.
So bring Tebow in on a minimum contract and sell tickets.
But I agree, Denard Robinson would be good.
I tell you, you use both of those guys.
You know?
I've seen the praises of Tebow with another guy who can throw the ball on the field.
Two passes on the field.
I would be less down on Tebow if he, you know, and this has been trod over a million times.
I mean, this is nothing new.
But I would be much less down on him if he'd be willing to be more flexible in his position.
Yeah.
But if he's just going to sit there and be a mope because he just wants to play quarterback and that's all he wants to do, I mean, what are you going to do?
Are you going to cater to this small, you know, the NFL's version of the Tea Party, you know, extremists with a couple people dressed up, standing in a park with their Tebow to Jacksonville banners?
There's not a big group, but, you know, people come and pay attention to them because they're backwards and they're fun to look at at the news.
But, you know, you cave to that and you're just caving your franchise.
I don't think Shotgun will do it, but I'm sick of hearing about it.
But that being said, I'm going to give you a mulligan on that idea last week.
And I want your input.
How do you turn around the Jacksonville Jaguars?
Teddy Bridgewater.
Yeah.
Look, I think it's a pretty easy thing to do.
Maybe not Marcus Mariota, Mettenberg.
I think this draft is going to be huge for quarterbacks.
I think, you know, it sounds like a simple answer, but I think the answers are simple, simple or better.
You've got to go out and get a franchise quarterback.
You know, they whiffed on Gabbit.
They whiffed on Justin Blackman.
Is he even playing anymore?
What's the deal with Blackman?
That's the other thing that a lot of people, you know, just forget.
He's been suspended these first four games.
He's not going to change it for them.
But I think him and Henny will have a little bit more chemistry when he's back.
You know, they were pretty decent together last year.
And Cecil Shorts caught over 100 yards today, being the only guy on the field that you even have to pay attention to.
Right?
So once he's got Blackman opposite him, I mean, if they have a quarterback who can at least feed the ball out to him, which Henny can do, they'll be – the problem is they may just be good enough to not get the first pick.
And that's where you've got to figure out, you know, is that worth it to you?
But I think this draft – I think this draft they're saying is going to be the, you know, quarterback-heavy draft is going to be one of the deepest drafts in years.
So, you know, they're obviously going to be in the top five of picks.
You know, they're not going to win games.
But it's too bad seeing my boy Paul Puzlesny, you know, a guy I actually considered a friend when I worked at Penn State.
He's kind of wallowing away down there.
And, you know, he plays hard.
Great guy.
And he's getting rolled.
He's got a couple of good pieces on defense, but they're just not enough.
You know?
Well, I don't know if they're – from what I hear, if they're feeling burnt by the Gabbert situation, you know, about taking another quarterback out of college too high.
I don't know if they have to trade.
Get your input on this.
I have a random thought that I'm not sure if I even believe it myself.
But if, if, big if, a guy like Mark Sanchez is never going to make it in the league, he needs to be in a low-pressure city.
No.
There's no – there's no fishbowl.
And people are just glad he's there, excited.
Yeah, I don't think that's your answer, man.
I don't think that's your answer.
Hey, I'm not – I'm not tired.
I'm just thinking.
I know they're burnt by the Gabbert situation.
They don't necessarily want to take a guy unless it's like a Manziel or Bridgewater becomes the same level of, you know, household name that's going to put them on the map immediately.
Oh, they'll love it.
They'll love Johnny Football if they ever get their hands on him.
Oh, yeah.
Obviously.
Obviously, if it was him, they'd take him.
But I'm just thinking, is there anybody out there that's already in the league that could be a starter that's proven he can play in the NFL that's just sort of wasting away somewhere?
Matt Flynn?
Mark Sanchez?
I don't know.
I was just going to say Flynn.
But, you know, he's been – I don't know.
He had one record-breaking game in Green Bay, and he's been sort of cashing paychecks on it since.
He hasn't been able to seem to beat anybody out anywhere he's gone.
That franchise needs to move.
Although they won't because they've got that mustachioed bumper builder there.
They won't move.
They need to move out to L.A.
Of course, L.A.
is supposedly making more – you know, the Raiders name keeps popping back up.
Somebody needs to come out here.
I don't think it's Jacksonville.
Well, what they're talking about is if they ever move, you know, there's some concern that he has his eyes on being the London franchise.
Because, you know, they've just – Jacksonville just upped the ante with the deal, and they're going to be playing two home games in London.
Oh, really?
I didn't know that.
Yeah, they – Shad came in and he locked them into the London game, and then he upped it and locked them into two London games a year.
I think maybe that starts next year.
So the talk is they probably won't go to L.A.
because they've gotten a pretty ironclad lease down here that the city was smart about for at least a while more.
But, you know, at some point, if this thing goes international, Shad Khan's an international man.
He owns the European soccer team.
And that's what – The fear is down here among the Jaguar faithful.
That would be a game.
That would be a ways out.
Are they selling out?
No, they're not even selling out.
So they black out the games where you're at?
They're doing all right.
They don't black out the games.
They're not selling out.
They're not selling out on that sort of technical maneuver where they tarp over a bunch of seats and say that those don't count.
Yeah.
You know?
They tarp over a whole three sections together in the upper deck and sell advertising on the banner on the tarps.
Like the Raiders do.
But, you know, whatever.
They're winning with – You know, if they could start winning, they would cure everything.
But right now, they're just sort of a laughingstock, understandably.
But – That's some interesting news.
Bottom line, Chippewa is not the answer.
Yeah, you're probably right.
I get a little – I don't know.
Because I like that style of football.
You know, I like that style of pounding the ball, single wing, unbalanced sets.
But, yeah, you know, throw in Denard Robinson.
Screw it.
They got to do something.
They got to do something, right?
Otherwise, they're going to lose every game.
Every game, 45-0.
Well, 45-13, whatever it is.
They should probably trade Drew to somebody.
And I would not be surprised if they do.
You know, get like a third-round pick for him.
Yeah, he's playing on his last year on a contract, I guess.
I think he's kind of unhappy.
So, yeah.
Well, enough Jaguar.
I love Jaguar talk.
I appreciate the call.
But, you know, Jacksonville.
Did you watch Patriots quickly?
I saw some of them today.
I didn't get to see them.
Unfortunately, being out of area, you know.
Yeah.
I get to catch the red zone highlights when they're out locally.
I thought they looked good.
I think the defense is legitimate.
It's the best defense they've had, you know, since the 0-4 or 5 team.
So, we'll see.
What I saw was much more encouraging than last week.
Yeah.
You know.
We'll see.
Hey, thanks for the call.
We'll talk to you.
Go Jaguars.
Go coach.
Go out of here.
Thanks.
All right.
Thanks.
Interesting take from somebody who lives down in the largest city in America, actually.
Per land.
Land size.
I always thought that was interesting.
All right.
We've got about 12 minutes left.
I want to talk about an interesting article I read in Max Preps.
Well, they went ahead and they ranked the greatest high school football player per decade.
Starting from the 1900s.
It's an interesting little history lesson.
1900s.
Jim Thorpe.
Indian school.
Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Excuse me.
Native American school.
Pop Warner's coach.
Legendary high school player.
And it had become.
A gold medalist.
And it was a decathlon and pentathlon.
Great player.
1910s.
That's even correct statement.
Brick.
Harold Brick Muller.
From San Diego High School.
Two-time All-American.
Interesting thing about him.
I started looking into it.
He was the head coach player.
He was a player.
Player coach for the Los Angeles Buccaneers.
I didn't even know.
Los Angeles Buccaneers existed.
But 1926.
The LA Buccaneers were a traveling NFL team.
They never even played a league home game in LA.
They're based out of Chicago.
But all their players were from California colleges.
Their thought process was that they were going to play in the Coliseum.
But at the time, the Coliseum refused to allow pro teams to play there.
So they went based out of Chicago.
And played all the games on the road.
Even though they were called the Los Angeles Buccaneers.
Interesting.
There's also another pro team in Los Angeles called the Los Angeles Wildcats.
Which is in the American Football League.
Both in 1926.
Los Angeles Buccaneers.
Doesn't really have a ring to it.
1920s.
Greatest college player of all time.
Coming out of the 1920s.
Shoot.
Lost my player to go.
Red Grange Galloping Ghosts.
Out of Wheaton, Illinois.
16 varsity letters in four sports in high school.
36 touchdowns a senior year.
That's over five per game.
Three-time All-American.
Original class of the Hall of Fame, 1963.
1930s.
Tom Harmon.
Who we've highlighted on this very program a couple weeks ago.
Number 98 out of Michigan.
Horace Mann High School.
Went to Michigan.
Horace Mann.
He averaged six touchdowns a game.
Punta.
Quarterback.
Kick returner.
Kicker.
1940s.
Glenn Davis from Bonita High School in Laverne.
Which is a team we play.
It's in our league.
Davis was featured on Ripley's Believe It or Not.
For his CIF championship senior year.
He scored 236 points as a senior.
For 10 game seasons.
About 23 points a game.
And he holds the NLB.
And he still owns the NCAA record.
But check this out.
11.7 yards per carry in college.
11.5 yards a carry.
As a running back.
Or a halfback.
If you will.
Man, I would make sure his average went down a lot lower than that.
Because if he's getting 11 yards a carry.
I'm damn sure I keep feeding him the damn ball.
Played on two NFL championship teams out here for the Rams.
And he got injured filming a movie.
Filming a movie.
And he got injured.
And they said he was never the same.
Fell off a horse or something.
While filming a movie.
His career was never the same.
1950s.
Ken Hall from Sugar Land, Texas.
11,000 yards career.
Played for Bear Bryant at Texas A&M.
Bear Bryant said one of the biggest regrets he ever had as a college coach is he never used Ken Hill the right way.
And it's an interesting Bear Bryant quote.
Speaking of Ken Hall.
Excuse me.
I said Hill.
Ken Hall.
He said, You're a fool to think that you can treat all players all alike.
I thought that was interesting.
You know, because there's a lot of people out there that think, Oh, you got to treat them all the same.
I don't think you can.
Every kid's different.
Some kids respond to yelling.
Some kids respond to being called to the carpet.
Some kids fold.
1960s.
Joe Ferguson out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The same high school as Terry Bradshaw.
Year behind.
Or two years behind Terry Bradshaw.
Yeah.
State championship senior year.
Threw for 3,452 yards a senior year and 40 touchdowns in 1968.
That's a lot of yards in high school football, especially in the 60s when they're all running T formation.
Ferguson went on to have a 17-year NFL career.
70s.
The 1970s.
Herschel Walker.
Johnson County out of Wrightsville, Georgia.
3,100 yards as a senior.
Whew.
As a freshman next year, went on to lead Georgia in the national championship.
Shows you how good he was.
I mean, I've watched some ESPN things on Herschel Walker.
Just a man amongst boys.
3,000 yards as a senior.
1980s.
Emmitt Smith.
Florida.
High school in Florida.
I didn't, for some reason, I didn't put the name down.
Hit 8,804 yards rushing.
He had 45 games in his career of 100-plus yards.
He's been tearing it up as a freshman.
It's funny.
They always had, you know, they kind of legitimately believed that Emmitt was this, you know, kind of anti-hero, little guy, kind of, you know, feel-good story.
He's an amazing player.
Still the all-time leading rusher in the NFL yardage-wise.
90s.
Play mining.
Newman High School in New Orleans.
34-5 career record.
Over 70 yards.
34-5 career record.
34-5 career record.
34-5 career record.
27,000 yards career passing.
2,000s in the yards.
Adrian Peterson.
Senior year.
2,900 yards and 32 touchdowns out of Palestine, Texas.
In 2010, a guy I watched play last night, Jonathan Gray from Texas.
At the University of Texas now.
Over 10,000 yards career-wise.
He had 10,889 yards in his career.
205.
25 touchdowns.
Won three state championships in a row.
Now at the University of Texas.
Watched him play last night.
It was good, you know.
Again, he didn't look like the greatest high school player of all time.
Point being, a lot of good running backs out there.
Just got to have the opportunity.
Just got to get those opportunities.
There's a lot of guys sitting on the benches on NFL teams that were given the right opportunity with the right system would tear it up.
That's why I think a guy like Shady McCoy, he's already had a big season.
I think he'll continue to have a big season.
Now everybody calls him Shady McCoy.
I might just call him the Sean McCoy.
In that system, you know, because it's a run-first system, that's the type of guy that can have big numbers.
That's a special talent.
Those are the types of backs you're going to start seeing more and more.
These guys are just tremendous lateral speed.
They can run that zone play inside and outside zone and just be able to pop a crease and go.
That's why I think guys like Trent Richardson.
They're kind of going to be going away.
I mean, look at Trent Richardson ran behind a tremendous old line at Alabama.
So did Mark Ingram.
Mark Ingram has laid a goose egg in his pro career.
Is Trent Richardson going to be the same thing?
I don't know.
But it's system and the good guys you're hiding behind, the commitment of giving somebody the ball.
Trent Richardson had it at Alabama, had a huge year.
A few more minutes, a couple more interesting items to note.
Brian Holloway, former Patriot All-Pro tackle.
He had a summer house outside of Albany, New York.
And he'd been gone.
He had been using it.
His home, Florida, somewhere else.
Had been using the house.
On Twitter, for some reason, somehow on Twitter, he saw that they were having a Project X style party at his house.
And they were posted pictures of him urinating on furniture.
It's not funny, but it kind of is.
Breaking windows, spray painting the house.
So Holloway's gone on Twitter.
He has sons who are friends, like friends, I guess, with these people and know him.
And he's gone out and he started posting pictures of these kids.
And he's going after these kids.
Parental response is, you posted anything about my son and I'm going to sue you.
Instead of taking responsibility that the son is out there destroying this house.
This, you know, this guy put in his dues, probably has head brain damage.
You're going to say, oh, you say anything about my son.
I'm going to sue you.
It's the day and age we live in.
Speaking of brain damage, another NFL wholesome piece of news.
They said they'll not include anybody in the payout in their lawsuit that they settled last week.
Anybody or any of their families who died before 2006.
NFL would not cough up any money to pay the families.
Such a wholesome brand.
Includes Mike Webster.
Who?
Who really is the first guy that kind of broke this story.
Hey, this guy's freaking nuts because he played football and he's got all these head injuries.
Nope.
Webster family entitled to nothing.
Amazing.
It's amazing what this.
But you come back and I spent all day.
Woke up, watched the pregame show.
Didn't get changed.
Ate breakfast.
Watched the second game.
Came down here.
Watched the first half of the late game.
I'm addicted to like a damn crack.
Addict.
Oh, well.
Only what?
Three more months to go.
Still love watching it.
Unfortunately.
What else?
Last piece of news along those same.
Not news, but it's a spiral.
Bring back spirals.
Top ticket prices in the NFL.
Average ticket prices.
And they're suing MIA for a million and a half dollars.
Average ticket prices.
New York Giants.
The 0-3 New York Giants. $292 per ticket.
Chicago Bears. $282.
The Pats. $277.
Packers. $245.
Average per ticket.
In Denver. $237.
It's amazing.
Every turn they cry that we're in this recession.
That the economy is so bad.
And people are paying.
And people go to these games.
They bring a family of four to a Giants game.
You have average.
You have average seats.
You're spending $1,500 for a freaking game that you could watch on TV.
That, I think, will be the undoing of the NFL.
Not necessarily the concussions.
Oh, the NFL's not going anywhere.
They'll adjust.
How do they do it?
How do people afford it?
Unbelievable.
But we're in recession.
And the box office breaks records every week for bad movies.
Good thing.
Good thing times, you know.
Times are really good.
What are you spending? $500 a ticket?
Amazing.
Love the way Jimmy Johnson called out Terry Bradshaw.
He said, oh, I forget exactly what he said this morning.
He said, but oh, they're more upset than Jimmy's three ex-wives.
Shit.
Let me just throw that out there.
I mean, excuse me.
Terry's three ex-wife.
Terry must have.
Terry had to apologize to him two segments later.
And they were laughing about it.
I don't think Bradshaw was very happy about it.
I watched that Fox show.
I don't know why.
Better than ESPN.
Speaking of ESPN, that Oberman show was awful as well.
Just basically took that same show he's been doing, just put it in a sports context.
It's terrible.
The guy's a pompous guy.
What has he ever done athletically as well?
I'm not saying anybody who gets behind the microphone doesn't do anything athletically, but at least not be that freaking guy.
Never watched that show again.
Last thing.
Top 10 players ever to come out of the Los Angeles area.
Tony Gonzalez, Huntington Beach High School.
Warren Moon, Hamilton High School in downtown.
Well, not downtown.
Excuse me.
I'm talking Beverly, Beverly Wood, Beverly Hills area.
Anthony Munoz, Chafee High School in beautiful Ontario, California.
Ron Mix, Hawthorne High School, Hall of Fame in 1979.
The aforementioned Glenn Davis.
Johnny Elway.
From Granada Hills.
Ronnie Lott.
Out in Rialto.
Not the Los Angeles area.
That's more San Bernardino.
Bruce Matthews.
An Arcadian.
14 times Pro Bowler from Arcadia, California.
Mike Haynes.
Out of Marshall High School.
Went winless his senior year as a quarterback.
DB.
Winless?
You think if he was a quarterback, you think they would have won one game?
Last player out of that whole Los Angeles team.
James Lofton.
George Washington.
Prep.
Long time receiver for the Bills.
Raiders.
Played for another team.
Can't think of it off the top of my head.
That's it.
Been fun again.
I'm going to go finish the rest of this six pack.
Be back next week.
See if the lurk is coming off suspension.
Hopefully NCAA will be a little bit more entertaining.
Something more to talk about than this week.
Hopefully we go out and get those West Covina Bulldogs and go four and one.
I'm the coach.
