Yeah. Yeah. Funkadella tune. It's a great song. Anyway, sit back, loved ones. Hope you enjoy. Well, I, once had a life or rather life had me. I was the one among the many, or at least I seem to be. But I read an old quotation in a book just yesterday. Said you're going to reap just what you sow. The debts you make, you have to pay. And you get to that. Yeah. You get. I want to know. I want to know if you can get to that. Can you get. Well, I want to know. I want to know if you can get to that. Well, I recollect with mixed emotion all the good times we used to have. But you were making preparation for the common separation and you blew everything we had. When you base your life on credit and your loving days, a doc. Check shoes sign with a loving kisses. Lay the callback sign is sufficient. Bob. Can you get to that? Can. You. Get. I want to know. I want to know if you can get to that. Can. You. Get. I want to know. I wanna know if you can get to that. I wanna know. Can you get? I wanna know. I wanna know if you can get to that. I gotta know. Can you get? I wanna know. I wanna know if you can get to that. Can you get? I wanna know. I'm taking four strands of your hair And a five dollar bill I'm gonna put them in a letter And drop them in the mail I'm gonna send them to a woman A friend of mine told me about She's a gumbo cooker And a alligator whooper Makes a dead man jump and shout Talking about a woman named Hannah Down in Louisiana They tell me she's a mojo worker But she's gonna work that thing for me And end my misery And I know you'll be back home real soon Real soon She's gonna wear fancy stitches Or she'll look up Where's this man, bitches? Now and then, she'll take a little sip. She's got a .45 on her hip. She's built up a strong reputation in her southern land. That Saturday night about 12 o'clock, when she boogies a boogeyman. Talking about a woman named Hannah, down in Louisiana. They tell me she's a mojo worker. She's gonna work that bank for me. And end my misery. And I know we'll be back home real soon. She said, give it up. guitar solo You know I feel fine, I feel the funk And I know that it's in me I know that that's what she said to me now That's right That's what she said Yeah Oh, yeah No, no, baby That's what she said That's what She said to me Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh That's what you say Oh no, I'm the girl she's living with Yeah, I can't look the same to me Cause I'm in the park I'm going to be a hater I'm going to turn right now Oh no, I'm the girl she's living with I'm going to turn right now I'm going to turn right now That leads us right up here to present time Right here and now I'm with Paul and Egan from the Grand Theft Arl podcast What's up guys? Hello, John A So how would you describe your podcast? Well, you know, it's a conversation About culture and about whatever's happening That week maybe Or that year, that decade It doesn't really, it's just an open-ended conversation Like an ADD kind of conversation almost I wouldn't call it a I wouldn't say it's a rule on your show But what seems to pop up a lot is Paul will bring up something Topical Sexy, current Something like that And Egan, I like that you always seem to take it Into some existential space Yeah, we never know where it's going to go Never know There's also one other thing you guys do sometimes And I like it You guys will agree And then pause And then disagree So like, say this Make any observation Egan, make any observation in the world right now The superbug has been contained Yeah, yeah But no, but no, really But if you think about it, really You guys do that a lot And actually that's pretty cool Because you guys are willing to Number one, willing to agree with people But you are thinking about We're thinking about these things I mean, it's usually something that We just think about on a daily basis Yeah, this makes for good conversation Sure Well, you want to see where it goes I mean, you don't say no in improv That's like the rule is You never say no, you never shut it down So he might lead to something that's existential That I might be like, whoa, dude I didn't even know we were going to get into quarters From Buffaloes, you know And we also, we shared a guest last week Gino Garofalo Yeah He was on both of our shows last week I didn't know that That was a coincidence, basically Because I was going to ask you about that Because I was going to be like That was very strange I was going to be like Jay Leno And have him beside me Oh, an exclusive? Yeah Well, we have technology to blame for that, really Because you were texting us and we were responding And you weren't getting our responses So you must have really thought we were a bunch of dicks And I apologize But that was the technology I did not No, not at all Not at all I didn't think much I just thought you guys were busy Well, I'd like to take this moment to formally apologize Thank you, thank you Is that what the flowers are for? Yeah, exactly I mean, watch out for the bees The chocolates? Totally not gay, Johnny, but I really love the vibe in here It smells nice, too You guys know me, I'm totally not gay, but check this picture out Look at this Just look at this Smell these flowers That's another thing that comes up on your show Yeah, I wonder why, I'm not sure He's been riding that wave I like where it's going Yeah I'm not sure if he's been riding that wave I'm not sure I'm not sure if he's been riding that wave I'm not sure I'm not sure I'm not sure I'm not sure I'm not sure I'm not sure I'm not sure I'm not sure I like where it's going Yeah, okay Dude, I wanted to give, since you were asking what, some of what we talk about, a lot of our listeners say that we sound like a conversation that they're in the room and they actually answer us at times, because we're pretty ridiculous at times We have to remind people not to correct our mistakes, because we're not a news program Yeah We're a conversation It's not journalism, right? But yeah, there's, I think you talked about this about a couple times that you made a comment on Facebook or whatever, oh, the Hello Kitty thing Oh, yeah Mass waves of hate Big, big, big controversy Yeah But what were you talking about? What were you bringing up there? Well Like an example Oh, not the Hello Kitty? Well, I did, we did have, we made a stand that Hello Kitty was not a kitty because it was released from Sanrio How dare you, sir? Exactly Like, the internet trolls or, they're not even just, they're not trolls, they're just people that love Hello Kitty, you can't call them trolls, can you? Well They were all over you The internet bit me, dude Hundreds of them It bit me Like a wasp So you gotta watch out out there, guys Did you actually get threats? No, but I did get friend requests Did you really? Frankly enough Oh, cool Like, so I had some sympathy out there. There were some people who agreed, but we did have, a lot of people were like, you're an idiot, you're an idiot Yeah, you're an idiot Yeah, you're an idiot Yeah, you're an idiot Yeah, you're an idiot Yeah, you're an idiot Yeah, you're an idiot Yeah, you're an idiot And like, get off this page if you can't say nice things about Hello Kitty. So that is really a Was it specifically that you said? I said Hello Kitty is not a cat. Or I said, but Hello Kitty is not a cat. It was an NPR story on Facebook Period. That's all you said Period. That's all. I'd never responded to anything, but there was replies upon replies and I'm guessing you don't really care that much anyway Well, I was wrong, what turned out to be And I admit it. And I went on and I did a correction on it. And I'm sure you'll find it on our podcast That, whoa, I'm wrong. But it would've came out, because Sanrio has said that Hello Kitty was a British schoolgirl And turns out it's a cat dressed as British schoolgirl. There was a problem in the translation Controversy. Does the controversy continue or? No, I let it go. I have a short attention span. Where did you guys grow up? Paul, where'd you grow up? I grew up in Woodland Hills in the valley. Egan? Yeah, I met Paul in grade school. Yeah, we've actually In that same area. That's awesome. Woodland Hills Elementary. Woodland Hills Elementary. And I know you guys, I didn't know you guys went that far back, but I know there's been a lot of little creative projects and stuff through the years. What other creative projects have you guys shared? Shared? Shared. Bands? Well, no. Shared? Well, we had separate bands together. I mean, separately. Mm-hmm. We played in bands separately. Separately. We shared a lot of the same- Friends. Friends, yeah. Okay. Friends. Yeah. But you guys are both musicians? We both play music. Oh, wait. Do a lot of different things. I mean, we both like to take long walks. Egan's much more the musician, but I did shoot a couple of music videos for him. Oh, that's right. That you can find on YouTube. Yeah, there was one on a rooftop, right? Yes. A zombie one. He directed and shot a zombie video and a- A zombie one. A zombie one. Yeah. And a video we did in the mall, actually, in the Galleria. I want to talk to- I know a couple other projects, so I'm going to bring those up in the next session. Sure. You guys are hanging out, right? You want to hear some music? Yeah. Oh, yeah. All right. You can't kick me out. I like this jam, too, right now. Yeah, this is good. Lack of Afro is the band. Wait a minute. It's a remix of the Wait a Minute. Good band name. Next up, I got brand new music from LA's own The Lions. Adelos is the name of the tune. It's featuring Malik, The Freak, More, and Black Shakespeare. It's off their brand new record called Soul Riot, out on the Stones Throw label. That LP is new. I think it was out Valentine's Day or something like that. That LP is just full of fire. A little explorative soul. anything negative no negative posts getting coffee not a lot of controversy yeah take lots of pictures of food cause I have friends and I have friends who have shows and they kinda on purpose find the trending things and make sure to include that and it's smart for better exposure I don't really do that it is smart I mean if it's like somebody's you know a musician's birthday or something I might you know put a little post up or if I find it cool you know one of those old retro pictures I might post something up sure yeah I'm not out I'm not out trying to work it you know as a media tool per se it's strange the world that we live in when it comes down to that like keywords data mining and that's the world that we're living in that's where what's next um DNA tracking what is that uh DNA tracking DNA tracking yeah it's a service that I actually did cause it was like $99 it tells you your health problems your ancestry where you came from and stuff I was uh I was thinking my uh my daughter's starting to do t-ball right now and I was reading about being a coach I'm not gonna do it but uh you gotta go get the retina scan for that to make sure you're not a pedophile really yeah a retina scan it's some sort of thing where they read your eyeball and like you're cataloged and it just seems whoa it seems weird I mean on one hand yeah I want a safe environment for the kid but on the other hand it's like also it just seems weird yeah but then again isn't that just a drop in the bucket do they show you a picture of a kid and do the retinal scan and see if there's it's like a lie detector I saw it's like that beginning of Blade Runner a turtle's on its back I saw a picture of uh Katy Perry in some uh stage outfit with a lot of like sequins there were little circle sequins around her private parts like that was part of the outfit and uh somebody made a joke and said that's like one of those uh eyeball tests to see where the guys are looking yeah right cause they're all just bunched up on her titties and around her that's what's coming up on the internet where you're they're checking where you're looking what ads you're looking at um I've been real into the virtual reality recently trying to create some virtual reality experiences like what um you put a you put a headset on and you're immersed in a different world because it's wrapped around you like well make this relatable what kind of world right um holodeck um and star trek you know anywhere you wanna go I could sit around my virtually sit around my living room and watch watch the wire for the 16th time you could virtually be what I do on vacation in Tahiti on the beach in Tahiti and you know watching boats go by and relaxing and you said you've been getting into it I've been getting into it development oh okay um dev stuff I used to be into computers a lot dev stuff and this this was an inspiring inspiring thing most inspiring thing since the worldwide web worldwide have you heard of it um yeah I heard some talk I heard some talk it's not really a web just so don't be scared it is a web metaphorically um I hate it when people say oh it's on the internet it's not true or whatever to me I hate that because every truth is on the internet I'm a little guilty of that I'm very skeptical of the internet but I can't stop looking at it it's a tool like fire electricity you can use it for good or bad true yeah what um we were talking a little bit just to lighten things up we were talking a little bit earlier about um uh phrases we're kind of ready to go out or things we don't necessarily like right yeah that's right that's right you know what I hear a lot of in this go figure go figure I don't mind that one I kind of like it I kind of like it I like that one um my bad yeah or it's all good I mean it's just it's weak writing it's all good it's lack of creativity it's all good and evil you know what I mean because without good I mean without evil it's not good Johnny where do you stand on bae bae b-a-e I know it um I would never use it unless I was joking but I also I don't consider it like racism or anything because I also mimic like I call my garage the garage you know I like that yeah wait is bae a racist thing um because I didn't know that and I post let's just say it's an urban thing oh okay yeah and then it's been appropriated by other people just like a lot of wrestling I mean chill out at one point chill out there's only certain groups of people that said chill out you know and now our grandparents will say chill out yeah that's true yeah hey chill out my grandparents have been chilled out for so long now it's totally just been chilling for like 20 years yeah under the I will chill out but I refuse to chillax oh yeah chillax is pretty bad that's a good phrase there I like that what's next for Grand Theft Parole this year well I think it's going to be more interviews and just keep it consistent keep doing it it's a lot of fun for us that's what it is what's next as far as gaining more getting more exposure we're going to be appearing on a show called Neighborhood Lover Radio oh okay is that today well that'll certainly blow up it'll be archived on skidrowstudios.com we're doing it one bite at a time yeah really it's just what was you guys were I don't want to say the names you guys were joining up with a certain network oh yes oh yeah we got on Pod U that was Kevin Smith's podcast network they featured one of our episodes and that was a cool that was a good honor and you know we'll be there for a while smothcast.com they featured one we had a guest Sam Sageb a comedian oh yeah yeah he's been on two or three times right Iranian man yeah he's funny he is funny so that was cool they picked us for that and we're on that and some subscribers came from that and I'm just going to keep going going for it nothing nothing super interesting or planned well that's interesting is it when you say there's nothing interesting is it I mean check it out if you want no I don't know we're you know a clammy handshake where does clammy come from why do they call it clammy I think gooey wet imagine what a clam feels like maybe I know what it means where did it oyster handshake see yeah oyster hands you got totally oyster hands I don't know I get really sweaty hands and I wipe them right before I do a handshake especially like with new people yeah feel free to take Paul's wet nap right there yeah I don't think he's going to use it okay I don't believe in wet nap I'm taking that stand I like clammy naps clammy nap I reuse reuse my wet naps you guys want to hang out you guys want to hear some more music yeah yeah of course wait no not really he didn't know um that's how we
