📄 Transcript [show]

I'm standing somewhere I shouldn't be And it's a way to... How do you like that intro? Makes me want to train, man. This is another podcast here at Skid Room Studios. This is Lee, your host. You guys made it. Nice. So we have Joshua here. You can bring the microphone closer to your mouth. Okay. Nice. Oh. So we got Luna's honey in the house. We have also Michael Nance on his way, I guess. Hopefully he makes it today. And also we got a couple people co-hosting with me. I got Eddie Donaldson maybe on his way too. Cool. He'll be here soon. And also Travis. You guys know Travis. Yeah, I know Travis. He's going to come down. He's going to come down right now. Oh, yeah. He told me he was going to be on here today. Yeah. I don't know Travis, but I'm looking forward to knowing Travis. Same here. So we got Luna's honey here. What's up, guys? How you guys doing? Good. How's the weather treating you? The weather's cool. I'm really hungover. Really? Mm-hmm. You're probably less than I am. Yeah. A friend of ours brought, like, had, like, a keg left over from a party. And so he brought it to my house last night. They're, like... Those are the best leftovers. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We just had a few people over, and we... I don't know. I think we ended up drinking the whole time. I don't remember. I blacked out. I woke up this morning. What kind of party has a leftover keg? I know. That's what I was wondering. If we were there, that wouldn't be a problem. Yeah. Maybe the guy wasn't that cool, so he bought all these beer. People were going to show up, and then, you know, maybe 10 people showed up. Nobody came to the party. Because, you know, if you buy one keg in a good party, that shit will be gone in, like, two hours, right? I know. That happened once at a party I had. We had two kegs. And one of them got finished really fast, and the other one... Something happened where the pump fell off or something, and people couldn't figure it out very well. Right. And so they just... They left it. And so the next day, we found it, and we're like, well, why did nobody drink this? And we're like, oh, because they couldn't figure it out. And so we took it to our friend's house. We're like, here, let's have this keg, but it was all flat. So it was like this huge keg of, like, flat beer that nobody wanted to drink. You got to keep it cold, right? It was all right. It tasted like a beer tea. Yeah, it was like a beer tea. Not that many people wanted to drink it. Okay, so you guys are here. I brought you guys here, you know, invite you guys to come here because I want to go over your music. Yeah. And go over the things that you've done lately. And I know you've been doing music for a while. I know you... I've seen you play. Yeah, yeah. Now you have different people in the band, and also you're doing a new album. Something coming up new? Yeah, definitely. It should be out like the beginning of May, probably. It's supposed to be the end of April, but we haven't... Like, it's taking a little while, but I mean, it's done. We're just... We're putting it out on cassette. So, you know, that process of, you know, getting the shit back to us and stuff. The initial run will be on cassette. Yeah, that's the initial run. Like, it's going to be... It's not going to be online or anything. So you have to get it from us for now. Yeah. Dun-dun-dun. Yeah, yeah. It's called Cool Breeze. So, hey, I introduced you here. What do we have here? My name's Amorn. I play drums in this band. Look at this, honey. Across from me. Yeah, my name is Jay. I play bass now, but I also do samples in the band. Play records. I saw you doing... Some cool stuff. You brought this little turntable, this portable... Yeah. What's it called? It's just a Vestax Handy Trax portable turntable. It's like plastic, but it works out. That's fun. Nice. He was playing on the floor, right? Yeah, wherever. If there's no table, like... Just used to the floor now. Just Indian style. Yeah. Yeah. So what's the news bring us? What are you guys going to do? I know you guys are recording, but what else are you having plans? We're just going to... Hopefully, we're going to... We're going to do a tour now in the summer when the EP's out. Okay. And like we were saying, just the initial run is just going to be on cassette. And then you can have the link to download it, too. And then the singles are going to be online. We have a new song with a video and stuff that's going to come out, hopefully within the next week or two. It's going to be a fun, but painfully gradual rollout of everything. Yeah. Over the years, though. Yeah, for sure. And just to generate some interest in it and stuff. We don't want to blow the load too early with it because we really like what we did with it. We're also recording stuff at our home studio, too. This stuff we recorded with a friend of ours at this really cool studio in San Diego called Electric Orange. Yeah. And that was a really fun experience recording. Those guys have been out there for a while? Yeah. You know, it's a little bit of a newer studio. It's owned by several people in several bands. How do you guys go about deciding who's going to record you? You can do your own recording. We mostly do it ourselves. With this time, we were thinking like, oh, just to do something different. Because usually our process of recording isn't, it's not always, I mean, he usually engineers all this stuff. He's pointing at me. Yeah. Yeah. I'm worn. He, yeah. So, you know, him and I arrange the tracks together. And so it's usually like we write some of the songs. We go in usually with like two or three songs finished. Right. And then the rest of them we'll write and arrange like as we're in the studio. So like, you know, we usually don't have like the whole album done first and then we go in and record it. So it's kind of, it's a different experience to have it, you know, have these six songs kind of done and then go to the studio. I think these songs are a lot bigger in terms of just sonically. Yeah, that's what I noticed. I hear your music. And I saw you guys live at the Natan's and Ryan's. Yeah. Kid Infinity. The Kid Infinity. Disaster party. Yeah. But yeah, I mean, like these songs are a lot bigger sonically. So I feel like I can really do them justice in a home studio. Right. So Electric Orange, our friend Andrew Montoya, who also, he plays in two very good San Diego bands, Beaters and... Alamania. Yeah. I think they're doing a show with Softpack. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They're friends with those guys and they tour together and stuff. So, you know, it's yeah. So we decided I wanted to work with him for a while. You know, we've always talked about it for years. We've known each other for a long time. So now that he's like has he has access to that studio, he it's owned by and it's used as a rehearsal space as well for several bands from San Diego, like some popular bands like Plateau. Some other bands like that. And so he gets to he he provided the tape machine, the reel to reel, like 16 track machine to the studio. So because of that and he maintains it, they let him be on the schedule for like a really exclusive machine. Yeah, it's just like not not a lot of a lot of more studios are starting to use them because of the sound is really good. And there's a little bit more of a demand. Like a lot of bands want that. That was that you think is that warm? So it sounds all warm, warm and you can still make things sound big and heavy. It's just it's just something about it makes the sound really nice. Low end sounds like drums and bass are especially. They sound especially good. Yeah, it's real. Yeah. So that was a fun experience recording that way. Then we just dumped it all in Pro Tools and put auto tune over everything. Yeah. The record. Yeah. Nothing wrong, I think we brought to the day. No, I mean, everything has auto tune the drums. The other drums as what everything on our new recording. Everything's just tuned to be flat. That's all you hear. Yeah. The drums go like that. No. Yeah. But that's that's pretty much what we're planning to do. So. Cool, cool. Well, it looks like Michael Nutt and just show up. I can see him through the. Oh, I see him. Cool. Yeah, I haven't seen this guy. Look at him a crystal ball right now. And I see him in the crystal ball. Shaking people's hands. Have you ever heard our song with Michael Nutt? Well, yeah. I mean, I. I know. I know he's he's done so much collaborations with so many great bands, friends of us. Yeah, for sure. Do you guys I'm sure he. Yeah, I got to say, though, I think the song we did with him has the greatest title of all time. That's right. It's called you. When you love his website, when you go into his Michael Nutt, it's his original hipster rapper since 2001. I like that. That's pretty cool. Mm hmm. And it is. All right. Listen, we're going to have Frank LePoel. Frank LePoel is going to play a mix. We have a mix ready for him. He's not here with us because he's going to be those globals tonight. Him and DJ Noir and Pandulce. They're going to have a booyah bonko, which is like a cumbia. Like I can explain, I probably play a little bit later. Cool. You know, so people know that's going to be done on those globals. Tonight, Silver Lake is going to be there tonight. But he sent me a special mix here. So we're going to go and play. We're going to take a little break. Like we really need a break. Right. Yeah. Yeah. And we're going to come back and talk about a little bit more of the music and play music, too. Yeah, let's play some music. I was going to say, let's play a little game, too. Well, I'll give away we'll give away like a link or two. So you can download the full album. Yeah. Oh, people can call. Yeah. People can call here if anybody calls in. Yeah, very good. Let's let's let's. Give the number was one eight hundred eight nine three nine five six two. So go call here. Yeah. There you go. Win a foot massage for me. Yeah. Yeah. All right. I said, let's do this. You can fake it. You may want to be with me. Do they want to be with me? Do they want to feel like me? I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll see you next time. I'll I'll We were just about to talk about that. It's Adrian from Tremolo. Right. Who started playing with us recently. He's MIA tonight, but whoever calls in first gets to kick him in the balls. Yeah. Next time you see him or our next show, whoever calls in to get the download code gets to kick him in the balls. There you go. Do they know the number? It's 1-800-893-9562. You can put the number on your phones or let people know. But that's a number you can call. Yeah. Like I was saying, maybe we can play a little game. We'll play it. Let's play it. We'll pick a song to play. Just a random song from YouTube. And if somebody knows what the title of the song is, they can call in and win that. How many other songs do we have here? Another three or a couple songs. There are three more songs. All right. So what else? Why don't we just let them roll right now? You want to let them all? Yeah, so people can hear it. Okay. Let me talk about it real quick. Yeah. The rest of the song, the next three tracks, the first one's called Qualias Luna. And then the next one is called Cool Breeze 2. The name of the EP is Cool Breeze. So there's two Cool Breeze songs. There's Cool Breeze number one, Cool Breeze number two. This is Cool Breeze number two. And then the last one. And then the last one is called Yes, I Want to Lose Control. Nice. So several of these songs, especially the whole Cool Breeze thing, I actually went to Brazil last year for a little while. Wow. Where did you go? What part of Brazil? I went to Rio and then I also went to Salvador, too. It was great. I went there when I was younger before, but this time I got to spend a lot of time there. And I actually wrote some of these songs there. Are you from Brazil? No. My girlfriend Amanda is. Okay. Yeah. So we're family. I live out there. Hi, Amanda. Yeah. Hi, Amanda. Amanda. Yeah. So that's why. But that's what's kind of cool. It's like, you know, I got influence while I was out there. So I think you'll hear it a little bit in some of these songs. Is that something that has to do with Tropicalissimo? A little bit. Yeah. Because, I mean, we always had that a little bit in our music, slightly. So I think I know why the music sounds a little bit different. But that's part of the thing, too. It's just a little bit more. It's a little bit more prevalent and a little bit more on our sleeve. So, yeah. But there's a thing. Also, too, something I experimented with a while back, but I never put out in the forefront was writing songs in Spanish and Portuguese, too. But that's something I messed around with and actually put on record this time. I have a lot of songs where it's like that, but they're not on any of our records. This has always been kind of a tropical influence with our music. If you listen back on some of our older stuff, too, there's always some kind of vaguely bossa novish. Yeah. Elements in some of our songs. You're the drummer. You know. You carry the beat. Yeah. Definitely on his part of that, too. I come by and phone it in. It's just a natural thing. He always definitely has that influence, and I've always enjoyed that. You as a drummer, what do you listen to? Do you have any favorite albums or what you can tell us as far as drumming? Drumming? Yeah. Well, my favorite drummer is Jimmy Chamberlain, formerly of the Smashing Pumpkins. So, I mean, I picked up a lot of how I play. You know what? I forgot about him. Yeah, he's a great drummer. Yeah. I forgot about him. I know so many drummers, but yeah. Yeah, I mean, I guess he's like my main influence. So, pretty much any, you know, Pumpkins album with him on it. Cool. Have you ever seen him live a few times? Yeah, I've actually... Josh and I have gone to like a dozen Pumpkins shows. Yeah, since we were young. Yeah. You know? So, it's cool. Yeah, because you're like, what, 38 right now? Me? Yeah, yeah. Something like that. Not really. No. Okay, listen. So, we're going to go ahead and play your music, but before we play the music, I want to introduce the second guest here. We got Michael Knott. Knott. Hell yeah. Am I saying it right? Yes. My headphones don't work. Oh. Yeah. It's because you haven't put them on yet. Oh, no. There you go. Are we here? Nice. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And also, right in front of you. I got a... Who's your guest? You brought a little surprise for me. Dylan Doran. Dylan Doran here in the house. Hello. Hello. I was downstairs on my way up here, and he just like goes like that. He gives me a plate, and there's a pig saying that. I was like, oh, that's nice. There's two right here. All right. Don't eat them, man. These are yours or what? Or mine? I don't know. No? Yeah, people eat my pigs and shit. So, what's up, Michael? Michael? I brought you a shirt. Oh, what? What is this here? I hope you wear a size larger than American Apparel. All right. What do we got here? Nice. Look at that shit. It's sexy or what? Yeah. Yes. Michael's not. I'll wear it tonight. Yes. Oh, yeah. Oh, shit. We got a caller. We should take that call right now. Yeah. Who's this? Okay. This is Jamie from Riverside. I was calling about Luna's Honey. Oh, well, thank you for calling. This is me at Pinata Hour. Thanks for calling. Yeah. I got... Luna's Honey. I got Josh here and a drummer and... What do you do? Samples. Yeah, he does samples. Samples. What about Elijah? Is Elijah there? Did you see Elijah? No, no. He doesn't play with us anymore, actually. Really? Yeah. He doesn't. That's weird. Actually, they're my nephews. Oh, it's that Jamie. Oh, hey. How's it going? Hi. Is this Joshua or... Yes. Yes. Oh, hey. Hey, how are you doing? I thought you wanted to say something. At first, I was confused. I was like, Jamie from the other side. I was like, who is that? And then I realized... Now I realize. How are you doing? No, it's Cousin Claudia now. Oh, hey. How's it going, Claudia? This is great. It's going good. It's like a family reunion on the air over here. This is cool, though. I would say so. I think that's pretty chill. It is chill. I like it. I like it. You should like it. I will. I'll like it on Facebook, too. That's good. That's good. That's good. How come Cousin Claudia and Jamie sound the same? Yeah, you guys sound a lot alike. No, we don't. Are you kidding me? That's my mother. Do you want to insult me some more? I don't know. I don't know if that's insult. It depends on how you look at it. And this is going to be painful because we're going to podcast this later. Yeah, I know. So this is going to be online forever. You know that, right, Claudia? No. Are you sure that's Claudia or Jamie? You have evidence. We're going to show it to your mom. But it depends on how you look at it. Because it could be good for her because she sounds younger. And it could be good for you because you sound older. No. Or you could think that's a bad thing. I don't want to sound like an old lady. Thanks. That's a mean thing to say about your mom. How old are you? I'm only 14. I'm leaving this conversation right now. Prankle. Prankle. Hang up. Hang up. Yeah, we don't want to get it. I think she doesn't want to end up getting in trouble. What's your name again? It's Claudia. Claudia. All right. Well, Claudia, I want to thank you for calling. Yeah. We're going to play some more Loona songs. Yeah, we're going to play some more songs. You know what? I'll send you that link so you can listen to it. Yeah. You should. Thanks. You really should. Thanks so much. Put on your heels when you kick Adrian in the balls. Oh, yeah. You get to kick our guitar player. Didn't make it. So you get to kick him in the balls. If you come see us play. He's the winner. I don't mean to kick my cousin, but all right. No, no, no. There's another guy. He's the other guitar player. Oh, OK. Yeah. OK. All right. Thanks. But yeah. Nice talking to you. Thanks for calling. All right. So let's go ahead and play the new stuff. This is Loona's Honey. Loona is horny? Mm hmm. I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I If I was blind, I could see what you were looking at I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were I can't tell so well that I ever met you I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were I'm not the people you once were Thank you. I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like I like Okay. All right, what's the name of the song? What is it? How's Jay going to tell? Do you want to type it? Type it in. Oh, yeah, and then we'll give out that phone number. I don't know. We got Michael Knott here also hanging out with us. It looks like he's doing homework or something. Michael Knott is very much here. Okay, so can you type it? Yeah. And do it in homework. Oh, man. All right, when he plays it, you can call in. No, when you type it, nobody's listening to it, but like... Go ahead, you're going to type something? Yeah, I'm going to type something. Call 1-800-893-9562. We're not going to say anything. We're just going to hear the song and then... Yeah, if you know what it is... Yeah, if you know this song or the intro or whatever... We'll give you a link to download the EP for free, and then you can also kick Adrian in the balls when you see him next time. You know what? Actually, you can kick Adrian in the balls anyway. You don't have to win. If anybody sees Adrian, just kick him in the balls. You know what? You want me to type a song? I know a song with an intro. Yeah? Yeah? All right. We'll do it again. We'll do it again. All right. Let me do this. Let me see this one. This is one people... Not too many people know, but... Let's see if... All right, so we're going to play this one. See if we get it. See if I can push my mouse. All right, there we go. So anyway, this is Lunahandys. Before I let you guys go, we're going to play this game. Oh, there we go. All right, we're going to put that in pause here for a second. And I just want to thank you guys for coming down. We're going to play your game right now. But before I let you go, I just want to say thank you for coming down. Thanks for having us. We got your music now, so we're going to go ahead and keep playing for other shows. Sounds good. Hopefully you enjoy it. Yeah. Do you guys have any shows coming up? Oh, yeah. We were just about to mention that. Our next show is... Actually, next month on the 21st. Yeah. Cheetahs in Hollywood. Cheetahs in Hollywood. Yeah. Is that the... Yeah, yeah, yeah. That little place. It's pretty cool. It shows... With the stripper ball and all that? Yeah, yeah. We're playing with this really cool band from San Diego called Shiva Trash. Okay. The singer in that band is... He used to be in a band with the guy who recorded us. Oh, all right. His name is Mark. They were in a really good band called... What was the name of the band? The Sesh. The Sesh. But the... Yeah, the Shiva Trash. Okay. Yeah, they're really cool. They recorded at the studio we did like right before we did. Right. They were the band that recorded like their sessions before that. I'm planning on being really distracted during that show. Yeah. Every time... Every time... I'm going to write that down. Every time I see a band play there, somebody always fucks up because... I'm going to have to play this show with one stick. Oh, yeah. Fuck yeah. You'll be like, what? Anyways. All right. So... We're going to play this song. And so what's the deal here? So... If they know... If they know what it is, call... If they recognize it and they know the title of the song or something that... Yeah, you can call here at 1-800-893-9562. Yeah. Or you can always send a message to... Or if you just want to call in... A page. If you just want to call in and be nice and talk, you'll get the link too. Cool. Cool. All right. So... Let's see. That was pretty good, but I don't even know. I don't know what that was either. You didn't know? If you guys know, don't say anything. But you can write it down on a piece of paper and let me know. Animal from the Muppets. Yeah. There we go. Because I think if I let it play more, people are going to find out, oh, I know who it is now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right? I see the screen, actually, so. Yeah. What about you, Mike, or not? I saw the screen. I saw the screen. What about you? Do you have an idea? Me either. I have no idea. So I'll let you know later. Are you guys going to make your own videos or? Oh, yeah. Are you going to make that video yourself or someone? No, we already did it. So we're doing videos for all the songs, so. It's one of my favorite videos. Just like that one too. The one you were playing. Who did this video? Who did that one? Yeah. Ryan did it. Yeah. I know that girl too. I know that girl. We're going out of town to play some shows, too, so if you live down south, you'll see us. All right. I'm here for you, Yeah? You can talk a little bit closer to the mic. Yes, I am. Thank you. So how have you been, my friend? Lately I've been pretty good now that I finally have a place to live. Right. I got back in November. Me and my girlfriend have been homeless and just jumping around from place to place. And so we got a place in Jefferson Park. Jefferson Park? How far is that from here? 28 minutes. 28 minutes? Put it in a Google map. It's by Milo House. It's by USC. Oh, I see. West Adams. Right. Nice, nice. And how have you been, my friend? It's been a long time. I haven't seen you. Now you're doing... You went to New York. You moved. You were... Are you running from FBI? Are you running from somebody? I'm always running from someone. But no, I didn't go to New York. I went to Philadelphia. Kensington, Philadelphia. Cool. And how was that? Were you doing some music there as well? Not making music, but performing. And I was there for a month, and I had a good time. I played this really cool spot called The Ox. Which is in the Frankfurt District. What'd you guys smoke outside? That's what I want to know. I didn't get any of it. That's Michael now for you right there. I'm doing it on purpose. For entertainment's sake. Cool, cool. All right, so I guess we're going to wear it to... Where Blizzard is, dude? Where's this guy? There he is. There he is. There's Blizzard. Hey. Oh, there he is. Were you taking a dump or... No? Nope. All right. We got some headphones there for you. If you want to just grab them. Nice. Maybe we can close the door a little bit. So we don't pick up the noise from the back. Anyway, so... Are you... Are you making some music? Luna's on the in or out. Yeah, Luna's here. Yeah, Luna's here. Still hanging out with her, kicking it. Kicking it with this. So, Michael now, what do you have lately? What can you tell us? What you've been doing lately for your music, man? Well, lately, I've been preparing for the release of my first movie, which is going to be premiered at Homeroom March 30th. And then getting ready for my fourth... Full-length album, which is called Living Room. Did you say movie? Yeah. And actually, Sonia and Henry... Right. Are in it for like three or four seconds. Oh, wow. You hear that? There's a performance that we did together. Actually, my last release of Party at Paris Space on Shark Hunt, just tonight. Is it a movie or is it like a documentary? It's a documentary. Okay. But there's no... It's not contrived. It's not like... I'm not having people sit down. Right. And I'm not going to ask them questions. And whatnot. I'm just recording things for how they are, editing it. This is it. That's it. So I don't really like... It's obvious to me that it's not a traditional documentary. Okay. Amazing. But when I started thinking about it from an outsider's point of view, someone who doesn't know who any one of us are in the community, I thought, well, this is going to suck to them because... So I was like, okay, so this is going to be a documentary, I guess. Right. Which is unintended, though. Nice, nice. Do you have... What kind of music are you going to have as a background? I made all the music for it. Oh, you made... I made the soundtrack. Okay, okay. Nice. That's something that will be interesting, you know? And are we going to see some of the East Coast and the West Coast on the documentary? No, no. This is completely made in Los Angeles. Right. Yep. Nice. And what... How did you get into hip-hop, man? How did you... I mean, you're a great guy. Like, you make great music. You know, I like your style. We jam out together before and, you know, and you participate with a lot of great bands here. How do you go about, like, mixing that with, you know, rock bands or experimental bands? And I noticed you have biz art here. M.I.A. again. Look at this guy. The ghost. And then we have also here this guy here, which I know. Can you introduce yourself, Dylan Doran? Yeah, he's fine. He's just there. Just introduced him. But anyway, so what I'm trying to say is, like, you know, you've been around here in L.A. for a while, so you're one of the greatest rappers. I mean, I know a lot of other rappers that I had here before, like, Verbs and some other rappers. I forgot their names, but... You know, you guys are doing great things. So one thing I like about your website, it's when you go into your website, it says original hipster rapper. What's up with that? What would you call it like that? I mean, what's the... Well, I just put a year ago is when I think I put that on my website as a tagline because I started studying marketing and advertising. And it said the one thing... Okay, here's something that really was profound to me. It was when you go to a store, a music store, a record store, and then to buy something, and then someone who works or goes up to you and says, Hey, we have a free rack of records or box of CDs that are free. You want any? And what is the first thing that people ask when you say that to them? And that is, what kind of music is it? And I thought, man, for so many years, I've been avoiding telling people that I make rap music, which is a big deal. Or hip hop music because I didn't like the negative stigmata that came with it, that we're all shallow, narcissistic, and braggadocious crap. So when I read that and learned that from what I learned about marketing, I was like, man, I need to just say, fuck it. I'm a hipster rapper. Because I know around people I hang out with, none of us want to say that we're hipsters. But yet, I mean, the word hipster is from the 1940s. It's a term coined from them. And it meant people who were interested in... in good books, movies, and music. You know, and that's it, basically. So, and I thought, that's what we are, but none of us want to admit it. And I was just like, fuck it. One of us got to say, fuck it, and just say we're hipsters, you know? And so, and plus, I mean, to an outsider's point of view also, it just really told people who are like out of LA, outside of LA and California, what to look for. It's like when they type in on YouTube or, you know, stuff, they look up stuff like, you know, gangster rappers, hipster rappers, indie rock. So I just wanted to make it really easy for people. It's defined. It's basically just a marketing idea. Right, right. That's pretty smart, though. I like it. Thank you. I dig it. I should take back the word hipster, then. Because half the people in Silver Lake and Echo Park that people call hipsters are fucking douches. Especially the Hollywood ones. And they listen to fucking, they have bad art, and they do the same fucking thing every night. So it's like... What's the meaning of a hipster? What's the meaning? Well, the meaning, like I said, it's just someone who's, you know, into good music and movies and stuff. Is that what it is? What do you think, Daniel? Is that... Well, it's not... Well, that's what we'd like to think, but I don't think that's what, like, the public thinks. It sort of has, like, a derogatory connotation to it. Yeah. Yeah. It's like a... Don't show me I'm not a hipster. It's just that... You know what? Hey, Travis, you know what I was thinking about that? It's a word that maybe... Imagine being back in the 60s or early 60s and a group of youngsters, you know, they're being called... Like, punk. Right. Imagine that era. It's just kind of like what is happening right now, but... I heard that the term came from, like, all back in, like, the jazz days out in, like, New York and Greenwich Village. They had hip flasks or something, and they kept those on their belts. That's why they were called hipsters, because they had, like, flasks of whiskey on their hips and would, like, perform jazz music. That's what I thought. That's what I heard. So, whiskey drinkers? Yeah, it was whiskey drinkers. I also heard another story, like, people in the 60s that were... Hipsters. Shot heroin in their hips to hide it from their parents. It's another story. Between the toes. Between the toes? Between the toes. Or in the scrotum. Is anybody drinking whiskey here? No, but we have absinthe. Yeah, but we have... What? You ready for that? That's what I put in front of you right there. Yeah, man. My hands are shaking. Stop. Want to split it? Yeah. Crazy. So, Michael, you got here. Who do you have here? Who's going to be with you hanging out right now? You guys are ready to do the little song you're going to do? How many songs are you guys going to do? How many songs do you want to do right now? I don't know. We haven't practiced or anything like that, so just whatever, I guess, the time is allotted to us. Okay, Joseph, you guys are listening to the show, the new podcast. I have a visa here. How you doing, my friend? Good. Yeah? Yeah. Or Cholo Gotico. What do you want to be called? What the what? Cholo Gotico. We're all here. Drop the beat. All right. So, you ready to do this? You have your music or... I think Sonia has them. Yeah? All right. So, this is going to be Michael now. He's going to do a little intro right now. A little song here for us. Oh, wait. Yeah. I'm doing... Improv? Oh, no, no, no, no. You can do whatever you have here. I gave her the... I thought she wanted songs that were recorded and done. And we can freestyle. That's what I gave her. Yeah. You want to do a freestyle? I mean, make it this interesting. That was the performance part. Yeah. I wanted me and Bizart and Dylan to just put down some lyrics on some music that I made that's on my laptop. However, my laptop's not connected. Are those your three days? All right. But you gave that song to her, right? No, no, no. I gave her... I gave her... I gave her... I gave her... I gave her... I gave her the finished songs. Oh, the finished. I thought she was going to play songs. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. So... Yeah. So what are we going to hear in a couple seconds here from now? We're going to play the music from here. What kind of music is it? What kind of sound? The improv? The live stuff? Yeah. Well, for sure. All right. On the new album, Living Room, I have a song with Dylan, and it's called Lies and Confusion. And we're going to do a remix of it for the first time ever. I never... fucking heard it surprise surprise surprise fuckers all right so we're gonna go here soon let's just play the Michael not tracks right now and we come back here to pinata and probably do a little improv freestyle all right be anomalous nine-year-old that was clapping we serious so why chose the Pisces that's driving me crazy and your cranberry leggings open we might people like Oh forget it you will remember it anyways I will tell you about Sammy yeah every time I see you and the girl who died out laughing she did not regret that she did I I I And you can trust me, that's just well Everything in the sky fell at the same time I was flying when the family was joking Now I'm flooded with the oceans And you can trust me, that's just well Everything in the sky fell at the same time I was flying when the family was joking Now I'm flooded with the oceans Come on baby, let the good times roll Come on baby, let the good times roll Come on baby, let the good times roll Come on baby Come on baby, let the good times roll Come on baby, let the good times roll Come on baby, let the good times roll Come on baby, come on baby You can trust me, that's just well And you can trust me, that's just well Everything in the sky fell at the same time I was flying when the family was joking Now I'm flooded with the oceans I don't know. And also, I got Michael Knott, which is hanging out here. We just heard some of his tracks. Can you tell us a little bit about those tracks we just heard? You put all that music together, right? Actually, no. The first one that you played, Good Times, the music was made and produced by Jay Beats from Luna Azani. Nice. We have a side project called We Dress Good. And we made probably at least 10 songs together with he and Andrew Felix. They were the producers of all the music, and I just played vocals on it. What was the name of the first one? Good Times. Good Times. All right. Good Times. Let's remember that song. And so it just got really late because we made them like 2008, 2009. Time's going by so fast. I'm really prolific. I'm really prolific. I just put them on my next album. Cool, cool. That's it. And then the second one was called Remember Working. I made the music for that in 2006, and that's just going to be on the new album, too. It comes out in May. I'm feeling kind of funky right now. What's going on? I want to play some funk. The shot? Like funk music? Dude, that was some good stuff. So now we have, you're going to do something here for us right now? Yes. The first one I'm going to do is with Dylan Dorn. The song is called... The song is called Lies and Confusion. It's actually a remix of the new album, so it's not going to be on the album. I'm hoping that we can maybe put a seven-inch out for it. All right. So we got the signal going. Everything's fine with it? All right. So go ahead, man. Do it. Okay. And Michael Knott just performed, what's the name of the song that you just did? It's called We All Die Rich. We All Die Rich? Mm-hmm. How did you come up with the name? I was just being sarcastic because most of all I don't care about dying rich, and that's obviously not true. It's, you know, it's here to be. My last guess, it was this band. From Spain called Big Old. And the guy was really sarcastic, but he was from Spain. So it was really, really, really fun to have him here. That was a lot of fun. So now we got more music of him, right? Last movie, that one's on. All right. So what else are you going to be doing? So you're making a movie, or the movie's already done? Yes. All right.
