No, they Well, I'm not sure if they collaborated But I know that they played At least a gig at the Billmore But his influence is so widely ranging That people from all genres Tend to appreciate Chrome Once they get to a Chrome record, you know Cool And! Yeah People, some people might not Don't, might not know who Chrome is But also Helios Creed is part of it Yeah The band was formed when When he and Damon Edge Damon Edge put out one record The Visitation And then it was I believe it was Half Machine Loop Moves after that Right And this is back in Between 76 and 78 Which is right when the You know, Ramones records Are just coming out of the gate Right And some years pass, they They worked apart for a while Unfortunately, Damon Edge passed away Right And Helios Creed returned to steer Chrome Into the future, basically, you know While putting out his solo records Which are not just solo records But he's assembling a band There's people from Butthole Surfers And all these wide-ranging groups Playing on these records there And there's just so many of them So currently, you know His intent is to put down a, you know, record And then he's going to be able to do it And put down a, you know, a new Chrome record That's begun production That we have begun tracking on Nice And to really, you know, restore the voice of Chrome To the current All right, why don't we do that by Do we have any Do we have any music set up? Well, I was playing basketball once with one of my friends, and I injured my knee. And it was bad already before. And... And since then, it's getting, you know, getting the pain there, it comes and goes, but... Yeah, knees can be a problem. Yeah. They're very... Those knees, they're very complicated mechanisms. Well, you know what? It supports all your weight, you know? I know. And also, you're a guitarist, so I know guitarists, sometimes they go through this shoulder problem, too. Like, the shoulder blades. Yeah, if you got a heavy guitar, yeah. Yeah. That's why I don't play... Less Paul, because they're just too damn heavy for my shoulders. Is that how you start with? What was one of your first guitars you ever, like, started? Oh, I used Melody Maker to start out with, a Gibson Melody Maker. Right. And now I still... I got a Melody Maker SG Combo and a Fender guitar, Fender Strat. Right. And I have a bass, an Epi bass. It's a cheapo, but, you know. What do you think of those new machines and new pedals? New stuff that are, you know, keep coming out. It makes it easier for anybody just to buy one of those, get a guitar, and make some noise that, you know, a guy like you were doing it, you know, a couple of years. Yeah, it's great, you know. When I have something like that, I like to know that every switch and every button and knob does something, you know what I mean? Right. I hate it when you have something, you're turning the knob, and you go, what does this fucking do? Right. I don't hear nothing. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. I mean, right now, I'm in the middle of experimenting with new effects to try to find something new, you know, besides my old, you know, staple sound of the micro synth, you know. Mm-hmm. There's a lot more to it than that, though, you know. The sides are made. He's got, you know, if you don't mind, he's got the, he pulled out the amp for me. He's like, this is the Chrome app. And he turned it on, and I'm just listening to Chrome all of a sudden. Right. But, you know, I'm right down the street, so I have all my stuff down there, too. I knew because, you know, I had a band. We were heavily influenced by Chrome and the guitar playing style that you have. And so I knew a little bit. I'm like, huh? This is interesting that this would just happen. So it needs to be pursued, you know? Yeah, he pursued. Hey, Helios, what's cooking right now for you? Like, what are you doing right now? Are you planning to come and do some shows out here in L.A.? Or, you know, what's your plans right now? Well, we're in the middle of making a Chrome album right now. And when that's done, I would like to tour. Do some heavy touring everywhere. That should be no problem. Yeah, I miss that. It's been a while. But I had to put out a new Helios album and a new Chrome album. Wow. Then we could go out. Have you been in demand? Like, people have been calling you, asking you, bothering you to be? Yeah, yeah. Also, I noticed also, you know, on the net, I saw a couple videos of you hanging out with the kids from MG&T, this indie band. Yeah, yeah. I opened for them at the Greek Theater in L.A. How was that experience? That was really a trip because, like, you know, we don't get too many opportunities to open up. We don't get too many opportunities to open up for super bands and... You know, I mean, I guess the kids are really digging on them. They're really good kids, too. I really like them, you know? Yeah. Really good kids. It's how amazing how your music and the style, everything, the chrome and you still doing it are, you know, are in influence, young musicians. And they're coming out with their own sound, I guess. Yeah, that seems to be my job, to influence people that really make it, you know, big. Right. You know? Sure. Rather than me, myself, you know? Oh. But I'm okay. I'm happy, you know? I mean, like, it's for, let's say, from my point of view here, I see when you make music, you just make it, you know, like, I mean, you don't want to go big, like a big pop star, which you can make that kind of music. I mean, I like their stuff better than the grunge scene. Didn't make it that big, but I thought it was really great music, like the cows and the god bullies and... Oh, here comes the next phase of it, yeah? Yeah, I loved all these bands that were on am-rep. I still do. I listen to them a lot, even today. I really hope Tom does fire back up. Yeah. I wanna see him up the old record label and get it going again, because I think that music really says something, you know? And then we usually start out with the Descent or, you know, start out with the early Helios Creed records and work our way up to the newer stuff, you know? Right. Yeah. But we do give a full show, you know, with as much, you know, goody effects as possible. Hey, another question is, I had a friend of mine that asked me, is asking me if, when you play guitar, do you really follow a beat or when you just play guitar and pretty much a drummer will follow you or are you really picky with your drummers? Well, I've been pretty lucky with the band. I mean, it just seems like we all fit together, you know? We seem to know what kind of music we want to make and, you know, I love my rhythm section. These guys are great, you know? I feel like I'm with the right people, you know? Cool. And we're still growing and, you know, I like the solo record we made together and, you know, it's nice to continue onward. Continuing onward. Yeah. You know? That's cool. We like to keep it a little garage, but still we like to have, you know, good quality sound. We just, you know... We sort of want to get back to our roots on this record a little bit. Now that you... You guys never thought that it was going to be accepted as you guys thought it, but before you know it, it was like, oh, wow, looks like people really like what we're doing here. Yeah, I remember after we were done with Half Machine Lip Moves, I was putting it on and I go, people aren't going to like this shit, man. This is fucked, you know. And fucking lo and behold, it turned out to be our most popular record. You know, so... You can't really... You can't really... Even if you made the music yourself, you still don't know what it's going to do. And you've got a... You've got Galactic Octopi going right now, Helios. Mm-hmm. You take an octopus, whenever you see him spinning their eight legs, kind of make a galaxy shape, and that's why I call it Galactic Octopi, because the center of the octopi is the intelligent part, the head, and they say, galaxies have more, you know, higher vibrations toward the center than toward... Like, we're at the outskirts of our galaxy, you know? Toward the center, there's supposed to be more going on. Who knows what? Bigger parties, you know? Bigger invitations. Well, it's gotten... This record's gotten a lot of reviews. It's really making the rounds. Okay. And so... Yeah, I'm glad people are starting to get into it. While you wait for the new Chrome album, you can...
