If you like, listen like Johnny Scott Gramercy.
Play music for you, suckers.
Hey, what's happening, loved ones?
Thank you so much for coming by.
My name is Johnny.
I'll be your selector for this evening.
I'm joined by my brother-in-arms, Nick, over there in the booth.
What's up, Nick?
And also my good buddy, Kirk, over here.
How you doing, dude?
Good, good.
Kirk decided to sit in with us, I guess, again this week and keep me in check.
I got some new music tonight.
I'm going to play you some new music a little bit later from the Night Marchers, from Amigo the Devil, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Let's start you off, though, with Nick Waterhouse, Los Angeles' own Nick Waterhouse.
I think he's getting ready to start his European tour pretty soon.
He's out on Innovative Leisure Records.
Say I Want to Know is the name of the track.
Thank you so much, loved ones.
Have you ever made the best of a bad situation?
Maybe you've drawn a warning tape.
Maybe you've taken something not yours for the taking.
Have you ever felt trapped like you wanted to stop?
Like you're not even going to make it past the corner of the block?

Yes, it was, actually If you donated too, you got the exclusive Yes, it was, actually Even though it was a cover album That they were gonna record just for the contributors That's awesome, man Which I did not contribute and I will not see that album Yeah, you're not known as a contributor That's just me Prior to that, we heard Charlotte Gay and Sport From the great song Heaven Can Wait from their I don't know if it's pronounced erm or I-R-M I think it's I-R-M, the record That's not on Because Music Records That's produced by Beck That was her third record, she's got some newer material, but I like that record a great deal.
She's also got a new movie coming out pretty soon, another Lars von Trier movie.
He did Antichrist with her.
Oh, I remember that.
And Melancholia.
Mm-hmm.
And she likes to show her vagina in movies a lot.
Before that, we heard great new music from Amigo the Devil.
The song was called The Recluse.
It's available for free download, actually, on his website, at amigothedevil.com.
The EP that's available for free download is called Diggers.
Thank you for playing that, by the way.
Yeah, for sure.
The cramps, of course, right before that with the garbage bin.
I mean, what am I going to tell you about that?
You don't already know.
That was out originally.
Actually, I don't know who it was out originally.
IRS.
Might be.
But that song's also on another LP from about the same time, called Off the Bone, which another record label has.
Before that, we heard The Night Marches, of course, on Q Guitar Sing, and that's on Swami Records.
You just saw them recently, yes?
Yeah, Friday night over at the Satellite, the old Spaceland.
Yeah.
They played with label mates, Mrs. Magician, one other band, I miss them a lot, and we got there a little late.
How was it?
It was amazing.
John Rhys is still one of the best showmen in rock and roll.
I'm kidding.
Yeah.
I guess I missed out.
You really did, because you don't contribute.
We started off the set with Mr. Nick Waterhouse.
Say I Want to Know from his record from last year called Time's All Gone.
And that's on Innovative Leisure Records.
Innovative Leisure does something pretty cool, which is, I think it's the last Friday of the month.
They have a little get-together.
They're over at Villain's Tavern.
One of my favorite bars.
Yeah.
And it's called Lunch Beers.
Sights, sounds, and suds.
And they just kind of do it in the late afternoon.
And I'm not sure how many artists will be in attendance, but it's an Innovative Leisure-sponsored event.
So, you know, you might see Nick Waterhouse or the Yal-Lalas or Monty El-Khatib or anybody else from their fine, fine roster.
I'll be honest.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm going to have to call in sick to work next week, then.
I'm doing that.
Calling sick from a bar so you could go to a bar.
Yeah, yeah.
Next up, I'm going to play you a few songs.
Let's see what I got for you.
I got some Iggy Pop, The Passenger, you know, from his Love for Life record.
Brand new music from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Yeah.
From the brand new record called Push the Sky Away out on Bad Seed, Bad Seed, LTD Limited.
And a couple other twists, turns, surprises for you.
Yeah.
A little drum solo for you.
You always got to make time for the drum solo.
He sounds like a cat.
Like the kind of guy who calls people cats?
I was actually expecting the meow when he hit the cliché on that but- No, I think I'm guilty of that but I might have called somebody a cat from time to time.
Once or twice?
Yeah.
By the way, the bed music that you're hearing behind you, in between the verbiage, is by the Coleman brothers.
June's called The Chief.
You could have said that he sounded like a cool cat.
I think that would have related a little bit.
One might say that.
Or a half.
No requirement of that.
Hey, loved ones, I just want to remind you that you can always find this show, as well as any of the other fine programming at Skid Row Studios, on the iTunes podcast list.
There you can subscribe and listen to episode by episode.
Ready for some new music here?
Hey, G-Love, what's this song about?
This song about car.
Y'all like coffee?
I like it too.
They say the best part of waking up Is four just in a cup I don't know about that But I know what I like Milk and sugar In my cup When I come home Won't you fill me up My back is breaking, babe I'm all out of luck I'm all out of luck I'm all out of luck I'm all out of luck I'm all out of luck I'm all out of luck To make that coffee Stronger, sweeter Than my cup So give me that Milk and sugar, baby Yeah, oh Milk and sugar, baby Ooh When I'm riding And the road is getting rough Oh, she like an angel Coming down from above Give it to me, babe Milk and sugar Milk and sugar, baby clichéd clichéd clichéd Men and sugar, baby When I'm riding And you know I had enough Make that car feel strong And sweeter than my car Come on now Something like cream and honey And something like a darkest night But I like it how I like it And she always do it right When I'm headed in a direction that's wrong She never let me forget where I belong But I'm men and sugar, baby Men and sugar, baby When I'm riding And the road is getting rough She's like an angel Coming down from under So cliché cliché Oh, Dad Oh, Dad Won't you spare me over till another year Well, what is this that I can't see With ice-cold hands taking hold of me?
Well, I am death, none can excel I open the door to heaven or hell Oh, death Someone would pray Could you wait to call me another day?

You draw lightning from the sky And all of this in her dark hair And all of this in her dark hair, oh lord Oh See that girl Come along now Come along now Come along now See that girl Come along now Come along now Come along now!

He sees the sight and hollow sky He sees the stars come out tonight He sees the city's ripped back sides He sees the winding ocean drive And everything was made for you and me All of it was made for you and me Cause it just belongs to you and me Lets take a ride La, la, la, la, la, la.
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
Oh, the passenger.
He rides and he rides.
He sees things from under glass.
He looks through his window side.
He sees the things he knows are his.
He sees the bright and hollow sky.
He sees the city asleep at night.
He sees the stars are out tonight.
And all of it is yours and mine.
And all of it is yours and mine.
So let's ride and ride and ride and ride.
And let's cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché Lust for Life by Mr. Iggy Pop from the album called Lust for Life, 1977.
Remember how that was composed aboard the Berlin S-Bahn, the train?
Prior to that, we heard Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds from his new record, Push the Sky Away, out on Bad Seed, living it.
If you didn't go see him recently, then you missed your chance, and he's not back in California until Coachella, I think.
Damn it.
Which I will not be attending.
No.
Anyway, that song is called Finishing Jubilee Street, which is, there's a song on the album called Jubilee Street.
I just watched the live stream of the show the other day.
I should have gone.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What did you?
140 bucks a ticket.
Ah, yes.
That's what I recently found.
One of my favorite artists is Vicente Fernandez.
You know, he does a lot of Ranchero music.
They call him the Living Legend.
You know, he's, he's, uh...
With a name like that, he better be.
He's, uh, advanced in years.
And, um, I saw he was playing pretty soon.
And, uh, at Staples, maybe?
I forget.
But I checked in the tickets, or in the tickets, and, like, the cheapest ones are about at 150 bucks.
Jeez.
Uh, but they go all the way up to a couple grand, you know, to get down close.
And, um...
But don't get me wrong.
I'm all about paying the ticket and supporting the artist, but just didn't have 140 bucks this week.
I think, I think the gig here is, uh, he, uh, like I said, he's advanced.
He's advanced in years.
And they call him the Living Legend.
You know what I mean?
So it's like, you never kind of know what, you know, how long he's going to be touring.
Maybe he'll play another show.
Maybe not.
Anyway, so, yeah, I didn't see more of that.
I would love to go see the guy.
I mean, the dude's phenomenal.
Got good pipes on that dude.
And a lot of history there.
Um, okay, before Nikkei, we heard, uh, O Death by, uh, Ralph Stead, the doctor, honorary doctor Ralph Stanley.
And that's...
And that was recorded live at, uh, McCabe's Guitar Shop.
And, uh, folk bluegrass legend from Virginia, Dr. Ralph Stanley.
Started off the set with Mr. G Love.
A tune called Melting Sugar.
On his, uh, 2011 record Fixin' to Die.
And that's out on Brushfire Records.
That's his, uh, latest recording as far as I know.
