I hope not. We were discussing this the other day, too. And let me tell you, Hillary ain't any better either. We've heard a lot and seen a lot about Bernie Sanders. And out of everyone, he seems to speak the most sense. But look, we live in England. We're not Americans. And I imagine that if you listen to our opinions, you'll say that we're not allowed or we're not entitled to have an opinion because we don't live here, you know. But guess what? You'll be dragged into whatever global conflict. This will affect the world. But our friends, we have a lot of American friends. So we hear what they say. You know, we get their viewpoints. And some of those American friends have put us here. The reason why we're here is because they've asked us and they've helped us get here. So we hear what they say. And it seems to me that Bernie Sanders is kind of like, you know, the most punk rock out of all. Well, let me tell you, your album title seems to really reflect what's going on here. It's the thing with two heads, two fucking global monsters. Yeah. They're both Hispanic. How does he show that? One of the things that I've always appreciated about the English Dogs is the fact that, as we discussed before, you're groundbreaking ahead of your time. And definitely, especially during that era, it was a shift in music where groundbreaking. Here we are 30 years later. How do you feel about the energy and where music has gone since then? And where do you fit in in this? Well, you know... You need a break? You want to get a beer? A slice of pizza? No, it's like... You're like, the music... What the fuck is this? Obviously, you know, the music means a lot to us. Oh, without a doubt. I mean, touring is no joke, man. I never realised it, but when we play the music now, it seems like we were a bunch of speed freaks when we were writing this stuff. Because you can imagine that, you know, that's how it comes across because the music is very, very... active all the time. I mean, you know, the songs aren't particularly long, you know, maybe three and a half, four, four and a half minutes. There's a lot going on that it's like a stampede of energy, you know, all the time. It's real speed freak music, but we're not speed freaks. It's just the way when we view back and look back at it, we think, oh, that's how this music, you know, what it was and how it must come across to a lot of people as well. It's got a lot of energy. Isn't it kind of, in a way, disappointing, though, that because at this time, you know, during that era, music had something to say, especially what is considered the punk rock, hardcore, and then all the extreme metal that came afterwards. Music had something to say at that time. You know, if you recall, I mean, we're all from that era, you know, the Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, the economic fucking war on the middle class, blue-collar workers, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. It seems now, within the last 10 years, the world has fucking shifted to, like, a real shithole fucking place where the youth should rise and pick up that flag, man. It makes you wonder. And here are artists like yourselves still holding that flag. We went to go and visit the site. The kids are too busy with their fucking flags. Yeah, exactly. Keyboard boys. We don't care what's going on. We went to go and visit the site where JF Kennedy got shot. And it was really touching. You know, that had a big effect over in the UK as well when that happened. 22nd and 19th. November 1963. See, I know the date. My God, look at this guy. A history scholar here. So we all went there and, you know, we felt it. You know, it was interesting. And, you know, we all kind of thought, well, you could look at it from this point of view. Maybe he didn't die for nothing. Because, you know, I think that the wake of that, the music, you know, that came in the late 60s, the British invasion, the 70s punk rock, progressive rock, heavy metal. Right. Right. And then, you know, that carried on. But now I think that those ripples are dying. Right? I mean, look, I'm glad that you're still doing what you're doing. Let me get that straight. Because I am a 30. I can't believe it's fucking 30 years. I mean, all I have to do is look at my waist size, but still, 30 fucking years. So what's your waist size now? It's a 40, but I used to, believe it or not, I used to be a 29. I'm not too far behind. Here's the deal, though. What's interesting for me is right now with the way this music has grown and expanded, right now, with the way this music has grown and expanded, and just become a markable commodity, it seems to me that in these crucial times that we're in would be the appropriate time for the youth, and I'm not bashing the youth, but in a way it's frightening to see that we're all here still carrying that subversive flag, still speaking out against these injustices. I mean, nearly extinct. Where's the fucking, where's the rebellion after us? After the English dogs, that's it. I mean. We've learned that this year alone with the death of Lemmy and all these other monumental artists. David Bowie. There will never be another artist. And what, what, Kanye West or whatever the fuck is going on? I mean, you feel me, right, Brian? You're a music lover. I mean, this is frightening. Anyways, I don't want to fucking bum you guys out. Yeah, but you know, there might be another, look, there might be other places in the world that it's going on there, but we're just not hearing about it because we're kind of in our bubbles, aren't we? Let's face it. That's true. We're in our westernized bubbles. What do you want? What do you want the audience to come away with this record? The audience that recognizes and is familiar with you and the audience that has never heard of you. What do you want them to come away with this record? Exhaustion. Well put. What about you, Eddie? We want people to walk out and be happy that they've seen it and heard it. Neckache. Yeah. Some broken bones. Like that with a sense. Damaged vocal cords, right? Yeah. You know, they're not going to walk out, walk out like they've seen a real rock and roll show. An urge to buy a guitar. There you go. Right on. The English dogs are here in Los Angeles running wild. Let me start off real quick with what we started to set here. Sheer terror. That was from government issue before. After that we heard Holy Snappers, the punk rock Beastie Boys. Then we heard Hell Hound by Sir Lord Baltimore and then Conquer and Contaminate. That's off Disaster. That's off their new record, The Oath of an Iron Ritual. The English dogs are here. Ten years. Tonight, let me say this. Revisit what I saw 30 years ago. If you weren't born, tonight is the time to go to the complex in Glendale. The English dogs are here, folks. Make sure you get out there and see what I've known for a long time. With that, let's start this set. Chester, take it away. Let's get you some. You hear that line? That line's for you. Don't make me laugh. I'm not going to lie. Don't make me laugh. For one people. It's a myth created by Thomas Jefferson. Oh, now you're never going to Jefferson, huh? My friend, Jefferson is an American saint. Because he wrote the words, all men are created equal. Words he clearly didn't believe since he allowed his own children to live in slavery. He was a rich wine snob who was sick of paying taxes to the Brits. So yeah, he wrote some lovely words and aroused the rabble. And they went out and died for those words. While he sat back and drank his wine and fucked his slave girl. Is this the end of the story? No. This guy wants to tell me we're living in a community? Don't make me laugh. I'm living in America. And in America, you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business. Now fucking pay me. I'm going to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise money to raise Fighting is my way, the garden of fear Disposes of the rivals around Falling the street, making everyone move But others don't let me down Bad guys, leaders, evil, deceivers But all's up on him, I'm running inside To see that he can't turn around But they're not the only ones pulling the strings The only ones making us stand Before we lose our own secret we fear We've been in the dead since the night By any torment of bad hands and fear They will soon show me our right Bad guys, leaders, evil, deceivers I swear to God I'm on the right track I swear to God I'm on the right track I swear to God I'm on the right track I swear to God I'm on the right track The end Ruler of the earth Barrel between us With all derisors stand up for their rights Cut in number from above Conquer equipment as shook in the night People will lose him no love The mother of struggle with an hour remorse From the new has now become free The tables have turned and have taken their course The ruler is now history The dawn is coming Sneak it in, no more pain Feeling some tricks not escaping your mind Suck it up, push it in Crucify yourself with the heat of the dawn Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Free your pain, temper it Sell your soul, use your mind, shake and align Instigate, self-duit Punishing yourself to make it fit the grind Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, poisoned your mind Infected Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Infected, infected, addicted for life Sticking head, no more pain Feeling out of touch, not escaping your mind Shut it off, stop pushing in Crucify yourself, bring the heat out of your palms Injected, infected, addicted for life Injected, infected, addicted for life Injected, infected, addicted for life Injected I don't require the rights to survive I don't require the rights to survive Blasters, fists, slashing out cancer Here I'm born, here to play What the fuck, no man's head What the fuck, no man's head Tell us what's right, city Tell us what's right, city Where the fuck did you fall? I like to kill them softly. From a distance. Not close enough for feelings. Don't like feelings. Don't want to think about them. These cops are killing people, man. I mean, does that go on in England over there? Yeah. Do cops run rampant over there, too? They do, yeah. Really? Let's get you on mic there, Eddie. I want to hear your, that one right there. That's right. There you go. We want to hear your lovely voice there. All right. The English dogs are here in Los Angeles. Tonight they will be playing at the Complex in Glendale. Make sure you go and see what I have known for over 30 years. What can these kids expect 2016 of the English dogs? Speed freak music. Well, you know. You might have to reevaluate that because 2016, when you use the word speed freak, they're thinking a whole other thing. You know, legalities, you know, legalities. Yeah. Would it be safe to say dangerous, raw, extreme, brutal, honest, sincere English dogs tunes? Yeah. It's got an age. How do you retain that? How do you retain that after 30 years? How do you retain that? It's the songs, isn't it? You know, the songs have got it. They always have had it. And we just put that across live. I mean, we did the new album. We decided that that's where we needed to get back to. Was it something that when you were writing and recording that that was like the main focus? Did it encompass that spirit of the English dogs and make sure that you were able to bring that forth for the new audience? Yeah. We didn't. We knew that we couldn't just copy it, though. Is that your phone there? It had to have some kind of cutting edge. We had to bring something to it that had a cutting edge, you know, to make it just so it had a new sound. But a lot of that sound came from back in the day because Giz had a lot of the riffs on old cassettes just thrown away. And it was a lot of the riffs that were just thrown away in a draw. Really? Yeah. That he just like pulled out and said, oh, well, you know, this some of them riffs were going to be for the next album, which never came to fruition. So where was that? What happened there? Take us back. We did Where Legend Began. You know, when we toured over here in 86, I think that we just released Nightmare of Reality. Yeah. Metal Morphosis 12 inch. Yeah. And then we was beginning to do the first two songs. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was very ambitious. And I think that with that album, one of the things that we did, which now we kind of question, or maybe should we have done it that way, but, you know, what the hell, we did it. The songs were pretty long, you know. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I mean, the songs were very intense. There was lots and lots of riffing going on, very expressive. We were following a concept theme. There was things inside the concepts that you could view as being, you know, akin to real life. It wasn't all just fantasy. Right. Nevertheless, it didn't go down well in some areas. We got a lot of criticism. When you say some areas, are you referring to your home? Are you referring to England and Europe? Yeah. It seemed that at that time, especially English audiences, they were very, very, very difficult in regards to the conversation with the audience. Yeah. And it was a combination of two genres of music. Well, listen, you know, I did a tour with Steve Ignorant. Spikey did it as well. Steve Ignorant, the singer of Crass, and he did this Final World Tour, the Last Supper World Tour, playing Crass songs. And, you know, Steve Ignorant is like an authority. He's like a figure that everyone loves. He's like your brother. And yet still people would find a reason. I like how Brian's writing this. Brian's writing our shot there. Still people would find a reason to pick on him. Really? The smallest thing. And this is a guy who really, really tries his hardest to not step, you know, to not. And he was getting shit on at the time. He was getting everything. We had a protest outside. Any small reads. There was a protest going on outside the show in San Fran. Right. So you can imagine. With flyers made up, you know, like sort of, you know, ever get the feeling you've been cheated. Oh my God. Given the whole philosophy of what they perceive Crass. Crass. You know, was and how Steve should have been handling. And you're right. And you're writing long tunes. And we were doing progressive long tunes and taking a mild. We were trying to take the lyrical approach, which was more like where you have double meanings going on. It's not so obvious. But some people like everything being stated in black and white. How do you think? By the way, welcome to Los Angeles. Those are the sirens. Oh, hold on. I thought that was an introduction to a song. Hold on. Wait a minute. Because what I was trying to say was. By all means. Whilst that was going on, we could see that maybe we needed to think of another album after that and maybe try and get back onto where we was with forward into battle because that album did really touch everyone. And we kind of thought. Absolutely. Maybe we need to pull it back a little bit. So I started to write them, you know, get the riffs together, get some embryonic songs. But then the band just bit. I mean, I was like, I'm going to do this. I was just a bit by a bit crumbled, you know, like John Murray left, then pinch left, then, you know, 80 left. And so there was no point in a band. So is that what happened with those songs? They were just put away on a cassette. Yeah, they were just put away and forgotten. So it was fake. And then they were resurrected. Well, those songs were kind of they contained riffs that then I'd pull them off and use them towards the new song structures, which some of those were created in fantastic. Well, let me let me let me say this. There are very few bands, and I say this sincerely, there are very few bands that can actually pick up where they left off, so to speak. One of the things that I like about this record is the fact that even though it's not dated back in that era, it has that vibe. And so it still has that foundation. And one of the things that's very exciting for me is when I see, like when I discuss the English Dogs with like a younger generation, right? You know, you got to understand, it's hard for them to grasp that time at that time. But they listen to Forward Into Battle and they're like, wow, this is amazing. And I like the fact that they're able to move and accept the new record without a, hey, wait a minute. It sounds like adrenaline, punk rock. And the beauty of it is that that also transcends towards your older audience. Everyone that I talk to that's my age is like, oh, this is great. This is great. There's no disappointing factor because, you know, 30 something years is a long time, man. You can still skate to it. You can still, you know, I wouldn't jump off the stage anymore. But I mean, you know, you can vent about politics and kick a fucking, you know, trash can to it. I mean, it's just good, aggressive, real music. When you were combining these songs or when you were, you know, rediscovering these songs, what did you think? Did you, you know, like, were you magnified? I always loved those riffs. Like, wow. I still remembered them. I mean, I remember one time. Why is this in my drawer? Yeah. I remember one time when I actually, you know, because cassettes, we stopped using them a long time ago, didn't we? You know, when the CDs player in your car came along. But I remember for some reason I had a car and it had a cassette player in there, you know. I can't remember what car it was. Maybe it was a van. Anyway, so I got that and I thought, you know, well, because I've got a cassette player in there, I may as well pull out some old cassettes. So I was pulling out, what do I have on cassette? What have I got? So I was pulling out all sorts of things, you know. Lo and behold. I remember, like, you know, I found this old cassette. I thought, oh, this has got all these riffs on. Play it through one side after another when you're driving, you know. And I was thinking, oh, there's some diamonds on that. There's some diamonds. Where did we go wrong? You know what I mean? But, yeah, and, you know, the songs were formed in some very, very unusual ways. For instance, when Pinch was coming up with some sort of templates of tracks, he would record a drum track completely on his own, totally on his own, and then he'd send me the whole drum track, which would be like a three-minute, three-and-a-half-minute track with no music at all, just drums. Wow. And when he first did it, I thought, oh, my God, what am I going to get from this? But then I just kept playing it over and over and over. And then from the combination of hearing the riff tape and then hearing the drum track, it started to sort of form something. You know, you started to put things inside. It was a template that you could put the riffs into, you know. And then it was just a case of, you know, getting the lyrics together. And is this where you come into play here, A.D.? Did you write the lyrics for this album? No, Pinch does. He did all the lyrics. Speaking of Pinch, Pinch is not on this tour. Why is that? He's with the Damned. So he's busy doing commitments with the Damned. They've just played, like, the biggest gig. They've been doing it for a long time. Which leads into, let's introduce this gentleman right here in itself. Who do we have here? How are you doing there? All right. My name's Spike. And you yourself are very well known as well in the music industry. Why don't we give him a... I've been about for a while. I first played with these guys in 1987. Spike was in the band in 87. Yeah. After Pinch left. Spike played with the English Dogs then. It's a nice little reunion. Yeah. How are you enjoying playing? You've been playing the English Dogs music now in 2016 and to live audiences in America. Well, yeah. I'm enjoying it. I mean, some of the songs, of course, I did play, you know, in 87. But the new material of the new album... Well, actually, I was going to say it was this lineup, but there's a slightly... We did some shows in the UK with Exodus. Ooh. And the Twins went with us there. We had two guys that... Well, me and Gizbo. No. Giz had put it all together. And that was the first time, I suppose, any of the new stuff was played live. Yeah. Yeah. And so, yeah. So this is certainly the first time that the new stuff's been played live over in America. And it's my first time over, of course, with English Dogs. I've been here before. I'm with Giz as well, but obviously not with this band. How are you all enjoying the live ambience to playing the new English Dogs? It's great. You know what? It's an absolute pleasure. Are the audiences embracing it? Yeah. I mean, you know, I feel almost honored to be able to play that stuff. Right. And have people love it. Which is where it should be played, on stage. Yeah. You know? I mean, it's one thing to be writing and rehearsing and then going into a recording studio, but it's meant to be played live. It's a gift. So are the kids fucking jumping around like fucking... Well, that is it. You know, the fact that they're liking it so much is just... But that's... No, to be able to play that kind of music and people really like it is... That's great. It is great. It is very rewarding. Oh, you're going to experience it tonight. Yeah. Let's mention this again. The English Dogs are back in the United States tonight. The Complex in Glendale. Tomorrow, you'll be playing Alex's Bar on Long Beach. Yeah. And Friday, you'll be in San Diego. Where will you be in San Diego? Is it called the Soda Bar? Soda Bar, yeah. Okay, the Soda Bar. So make sure you get out. You have three opportunities to catch the English Dogs, do what they do best. See all three shows. Yeah. Are you enjoying playing 30 years later? Yeah. Yeah, I think it's one of the things that keeps you alive, you know. It's that... You're looking for a connection. Because the road is not easy, especially at our age. No, but... I bitch when two, three hours worth of traffic on the freeway. I'm fucking complaining, losing my mind. I can imagine, you know. You know, you get those stupid voices. You know, you hear those voices in your head telling you, oh, you know, that's pissing me off, that's pissing me off. Well, you know, most of the time, those voices aren't speaking the truth. You know, someone, another musician, which shall not be named, he told me not to mention this. He said, look, when you're on the road and you're at our age, we lose testosterone. So we're already half bitches as it is. Yeah. You know what I mean? And then, you know, the body's aching. Okay, and then, you know, nothing goes right on the road. Even if it's a good day, it's still a bad day. You know what I mean? I wouldn't say that. That's just being a grumpy old fart. The only real reward is when you're on stage. That's where everything makes it worth it. And this is really what's most important, is the memories that you leave with that, that you give that audience. I mean, look at myself. 30 years later, I'm still kissing your fucking asses. I mean, these kids nowadays, they think they know it all, they've seen it all, and then it takes bands like yourselves, artists like yourselves to really get up on stage and say, hey, this is the real deal. We're all on borrowed time. Absolutely. All right? No matter who you are and what age you are, you're on borrowed time. So you have to live it to the fullest. We're out here. Obviously, we're giving ourselves the treat of having the occasional day off and things and getting to see a few things, you know? And that's been excellent as well. So it's kind of like a vacation. I mean, we've never... The last two, we didn't. I don't know, 2012, we basically slept and gigged. Wow. And travelled. And that was it. We never got a chance to see an opera. We smoked a lot of weed then. I don't anymore. But, you know, the way that this has been designed is so we can have a bit of time off to go, you know, just away from the music, really. Yeah, so you can diffuse and enjoy yourselves. Yeah, we want to get to know where we are. We want to get to know this country more, you know, as much as we can. Yeah, before we... Before it goes down. Before it goes down. Down. getting over here i could imagine you know how much it's cost no i do not have an idea i could imagine the nightmare that you had to go it's called three it's cost three thousand five hundred dollars to get the american side of it of the for the visas and then back over in the uk another 785 pounds to get the the uk side of it so you know not much change out of four grand yeah not much change out of four thousand pounds and that's just for us to be able to come over here and that's no flights no van hire no hotels that's just so that we can legally come over you guys need to like consult some of these coyotes from tj because uh you know all these illegal aliens they come over here they're not paying no visas well you know this is it jesus that's a lot of we wanted to come over here with the visas we didn't want anyone to be you know trying to pull the rug from under our feet we didn't want anyone to be sort of like making that phone call to this and that you know we wanted to come over here and stand up and you know be legit yeah be legit put our head up in the air and just sort of say you know we can shout about what we're doing you know we can sing it from the rooftops we're over here we're over here to play this music have a good time and also to get to know people to connect with as many people and as many things as we possibly can and at the same time get to know people and as many people as we possibly can and at the same time get to know people and as many people to get to know this country a bit more you know what that's that's uh that's a great way of putting things i mean for the money that you've shelled out you should be able to do all that which reminds me when you go see the english dogs make sure you buy some merch okay that's the money that they spread to get over so we can get a bit of that back right especially small t-shirts yeah and don't ask don't ask for deals please well the girls can yeah i mean they can if girls if you want to it's nice to know you sound that rock and roll attitude ryan's your man he's your man over there he will get you a shirt and he'll probably do you a good deal all right as we mentioned the english dogs will be playing tonight tonight make sure you venture out to glendale at the complex see what i've known for a long time go see the thing with two heads and i'm assuming you're going to be playing some forward into battle tunes as well correct of course of course you got to be rude not to all right why don't we play a track off your new record this is a tune called turn away make sure you pick up the new record the thing with two heads on candlelight records candlelight records yeah make sure you go out and get it don't download it kids with that chester take it away so turn turn away from the light if it's got a giraffe that your master is hiding in you you turn away from the light the story is ending he's trying to defend the truth our father is not in heaven i'll be thy name thy kingdom's done thy will is run by sound you and phantom feel us this day and night we are daily lives and forgive us our restlessness as we celebrate the visionaries the latest ancient sensation misery when you got no hope the end of a road fade to fix your after tragedy holds a memory broken bruise century is a darkened room clarity looms when you fade in fast therapy is the shotgun blast away is the dawn of dawn is the dawn of dawn is the dawn of dawn is the dawn of dawn is the dawn of dawn guitar solo Turn, turn, turn, turn, turn, turn The architect of your demands, no surprise that it's you An innocent victim of false property, ha! Lost again Burned in divine Sending darkness Men serve the God Lifted blade Loosing sight again This summer day Pulling from the dead Calling forth within These voices from the low Loosing sight again These voices from the dead Calling forth within This summer day Pulling forth below Sending darkness Men serve the God Lifted blade Burned Sending darkness Men serve the God Lifted blade Sending darkness Sending light Sending light Very nice guy. And then we went to the show and oh my fucking God, dude. I was more horrified than he was. I guess he's just used to it. We're not on the air. This is another crack. I'm not on the air. I'm on the air. I'm on the air. I'm on the air. I'm on the air. I'm on the air. I'm on the air. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. my composition straight. And, you know, it was probably about four to six months of just keep chipping away at it. And then I would do like different heads and stuff. And he would be like, well, try one like this. And I would just like make another layer and put the other one, close the other one down. You told me the one retarded head. Yeah, Prince was like, well, maybe make one like retarded. And I was like, no, I don't know about that. But I just tried to also make it like a cool, like fun kind of engaging composition. And I think for me, it was something that I enjoyed looking at as well. I kind of had like an idea of what this monster was. And then obviously just to make it like interesting. And, you know, maybe you don't like the heads, but maybe you like how its chest is opening up and this tentacles coming out almost like the thing, you know. The way it's destroying the chest. What I like about it is that it's got forward into battle tattooed as well. What I like about it is that it just makes a fucking cool fucking T-shirt, man. And as you mentioned, a cool back patch, you know. By the way, kids, there'll be Birch available today. When we were first doing it, when I first started doing color layout, like I had a different color scheme as well. I had like a blue sky and, you know, I just start doing it. I just start doing it. I just start doing it. I just start doing it. I just start doing stuff. And then I'll show it to, would show it to Pinch. And then he would be like, if everything was cool, I wouldn't hear anything from him, right? So I'm like, okay, it's all good. If he didn't like something, he'd be right back at me like, hey, change this. And then he was like, hey, I want, let's try this. Maybe give it like a forward into battle color scheme. So that's what I was going to say. But I had done probably 11 or 12 different versions of different color schemes for the monster, for the background. I even did like inverted, like black light looking ones. So I was just like playing with the whole concept. And at one point you were like, fucking, hey, these fucking guys, man, you fucking paint me or what? What do you mean you don't like this? It's fucking cool. I enjoy doing art anyways. Do you like the fact, this question is for all of you. Do you like the fact that even though it stands apart from the forward into battle cover, it still has that somewhat of a... It fits with it, doesn't it? Doesn't it? It does. And that's what I was going to emphasize on, digging through the bag for shirts to sell and stuff. I got to really pay attention because I'm like, okay, is this a thing with two heads or is this a forward into battle? I call it forward into battle-ness. That's what it is. I say this again, very sincerely. I've always loved your artwork. That right there, I can see hanging in the gallery. It's fantastic. And it goes very well. One of the things that is interesting for me is how the attention span... By the way, I might sound like a bitter old man, but fuck it. The attention span of the youth. Yeah, I am. The attention span of the youth. I recall how I would stare at that album cover for fucking hours. Nowadays, kids are like, oh, yeah, that's cool. You know? But for me, seeing that artwork, not only as a fan of the English dogs, just that artwork alone, that's fucking beautiful, man. I mean, that shit should be hanging in a gallery. I really mean that. I've got it on my wall at home. I have it on my phone for a while. It's in a frame. Right? Yes. I've also done the inside. Basically, any picture that you see on the album or the CD, besides the photograph of us from... Which is the Key Club. Yeah. That I shot for you. ...was artwork that I did for the album. So not only the cover, but the map inside. I didn't do all the text and layout stuff. I was like, I'm an artist. I'm not going to do that part. You can have someone else do that. But also, like, the stickers. They're with the two double snakes eating each other's tails. So it was kind of like another, you know, thing with two heads. Nice, man. Another representation. It's like the serpent eating itself. Nice, man. A little bit of a nod to the crass thing. I've always wanted to inquire about that. Is there a storyline in your head when it comes to what inspired you for that? When Pinch and I started working on it, that's kind of what we were talking about. He's like, okay, maybe it's this, like, monster, or a leviathan thing. And we would kind of, like, start having conversations back and forth about it. And a lot of times he would be like, you're just talking out loud. I'm like, well, yeah, that's how we make cool stuff. We have to kind of, like, throw spaghetti at the walls or at each other's heads and see what sticks, you know. And, you know, like, I would say something, or he would make a suggestion, and then I would, like, maybe come back with an idea, you know. And like I was saying, I do a lot of freelance graphic art for other companies. So it's like, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. It's not anything new that I haven't done as far as, like, working with people and the concept. With tattooing. Also with tattooing. It's totally like that, you know. Custom stuff that we do, we have to engage with our clients a lot. Why don't you tell us, when you're not playing with the English dogs and you are tattooing, why don't you tell us where people can go ink their bodies there? We're in Dana Point, California, Ray Gun Tattoo. Yeah, we've been here in Oakland, what, 26 years now? Very nice. Very nice, isn't it? That sounds sexy over there. Have you tattooed, like, vaginas or anything? Pretty close. Close there. You know, you've got to think of us like doctors. Let me ask you this. Doctors with ink. I'm sorry. Ink doctors. When you do have, let's just say an attractive female come and say, hey, I want you to tattoo, you know, my breast or whatever, right? Sure. How do you maintain your company? You have to have a good exposure. You have to be, we're professional. You have to be a professional and you have to respect the client. You never get a hard-on, man. You never require about, like, her, you know. What about if it really stinks down there? It gets sent to tattoo on the hondle. Boobs are nice to look at. Sometimes it's not the easiest thing to tattoo. You never mention why you're tattooing the titties. By the way, I play with the English dogs. Sometimes we'll talk about it, you know, if people are, or maybe you're a fan. You know, you start, you know, engaging with your client to make them feel more comfortable, not just sit there and be like a dick and like, sit down and shut up. But, baby, get out, you know. So let me ask you this. You want to be personable? When you have a client come in, let's just say she's not attractive, and she's like, hey, tattoo my saggy, shitty titty. You know, it's still, you still give them respect and you still give them, you know, the best of what you can do. You got some professionals here, man. With what you're working with. Yeah. With what you're working with. And obviously there's going to be, you know, different skin types, different places on the body. There are some things that we can't do, but we'll also let the client know that, like, hey, this might not be the best idea. Like, there's a couple other options. You got a ugly titty. It's not going to look sexy. Well, it's not so much that, but it's just like wear and tear. A lot of times it's placement, you know. Yeah. Placement on the body. As you know, within the last, I would say the last 20 years, tattoos have gone to a whole new level. They've gone to a whole other level where it's become more, I guess, acceptable and mainstream. Have you seen any English dogs art out there? Well, Giz has some. Well, have you seen any, like, in regards to your friend, any, any, because I've seen a couple and some of them have been fucking horrible, dude. Yeah. Like, that don't look like the album. I have the album. That doesn't look like it. Yeah. I think I've seen someone with, like, Invasion of the Porky Men. Oh, that was Pinch. Yeah. Maybe they've seen the old English, just the font. Yeah. There was a girl at the New Orleans show. She had the forwarded battle on her. Yeah. It was, it didn't look like that, needless to say. Well, it's Boris Vallejo. He's the man. He's the master. Yeah. He's very good. Right. All right. The English dogs have a record out right now that's called The Thing With Two Heads. Two Heads. They're set up on Candlelight Records. Are you going to be selling that at your shows? Are you having any vinyl? We've actually just sold out. Good for you. Have we got any CDs? We've got a couple CDs left. We've got CDs, but we sold the vinyl. We've got a couple left. Good. Maybe five of each. Five. You know what? With those Visa fucking, what they charge you for, what they raped you for the Visa, fucking A, you should be able to sell that. Yeah. Go out and pick up the CDs records. We've got plenty of The Thing With Two Heads shirts. Yeah. That's the ones to get. All right. Make sure you pick up your swag. Tonight, The Complex. They've got two holes at the top. Yes. You can wear it with your partner. I know. Together. I know a couple of girls that would be there. The English dogs are all about the love. You get together with your partner, you wear one T-shirt. What a concept. We've got to patent that. We've got to patent that. Oh, fuck. Sweaty. What a thought. Tonight, The Complex, the English dogs will be playing with Black Cobra Temporary. Oh, fuck. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. Tonight, The Complex, the English dogs will be playing with Black Cobra Temporary in Witch Haven. Tomorrow, they'll be playing at Alex's Bar and then Friday, you'll be at the Soda Cafe? Soda Bar. Soda Bar in San Diego. Make sure you go see the English dogs. Let's play another track off their new record, The Thing With Two Heads. This is a tune entitled Hate Song. Chester, you ready for me? Chester. There he is. I really look like a guy with a plan. You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just do things. The mob has plans. The cops have plans. Gordon's got plans. You know, they're schemers. Schemers trying to control their little worlds. I'm not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic they're at it. I'm not a schemer. I don't know what their attempts to control things really are. So, when I say that you and your girlfriend was nothing personal, you know that I'm telling the truth. It's the schemers that put you where you are. You were a schemer. You had plans. And look where that got you. I'm sick of you. Guess what, you're everything that I've ever wanted. And just for that I must thank you Fuck me Well fuck you And your hidden enemy Make your nightmares come true Nine lives And you use every one of them Begging ain't getting you more Eight lives Pull a tooth out running Ain't nothing that you're good for Seven lives And you're not so lucky See the fucker there Two in the cards Six lives And I'm sick, sick, sick Of dealing with a retard Just for you Is a hate song We can sing Over damn fires and brew Just for you Is a hate song And it makes me sad to say You made my shitty day And it's not okay Wives who fuck you Three, four, one, a four Five, six, twenty, bitch You ain't nothing but a retard Fuck you Irony makes a bitch And we can't resist Lunacy finds a hand I can't scratch the itch Part of me likes a mystery Likes a twist The rest of me hates Destiny flees the switch Just for you Is a hate song We can sing Over damn fires and brew Just for you Is a hate song And it makes me sad to say You made my shitty day Fuck you Nine lives And you used every one of them Begging ain't getting you more Eight lives Pulling two that run Ain't nothing that you're good for Seven lives And you're not so lucky See the fucker there Two in the cards Six lives And I'm sick, sick, sick Of dealing with a retard Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you! All right. That was the hate song from the English Dogs. We were just, Aidy and I were just discussing, you and I are Facebook friends, by the way. Yeah, yeah. So are you saying that you're entertained by my mind or are you like, are you horrified? I noticed that you're a little... It's the best comedy. It's going. It's fucking brilliant. I'm glad that my torturous life brings you entertainment. I just look at it sometimes and think, what the fuck is he thinking? Do you believe I get laid down too? Sometimes even, and I'm attractive, attractive to you. I know, I know. She's not missing a limb or nothing. She's not on medication or anything, man. You'll see me tonight, tonight at the Complex English Dogs for all you young English dog fan girls that are going to be there. Make sure you wear something nice and tight and, and let the band know how you appreciate them. Go up on stage. You guys get sick and tired of having a bunch of dudes come up to you and wanting to sign, sign this, sign that. You guys, you guys enjoy that? Yeah. We were discussing when I was interacting with Venom, how, or Venom Inc. Excuse me. Yeah. I forget fucking the cease and desist here. How, is that their tattoo company? How grown men, grown men my age were fucking surrounding mantis in Abaddon and saying this. I still do it now though. I mean, I get... Do you guys get that? Yeah, when Baroness come over to the UK, I've got all of their stuff all signed up. How do you, how do you guys keep a straight face with that? Like, you guys don't tell them like, fuck, what's wrong with you guys? I just, just say to them, look, you know, I'm a fan. Buy this shirt. I'm a fan. That's what they say when they come up, you know, I'm a huge fan. Some of them say like, you know, I've waited 20 years for this, 25 years. Yeah, we've had a few in Texas have said that to us. Obviously, we've never been there before. I'm just like, fuck man, you know, we've been waiting 30 years for you to come down here. Wow. Well, when you guys did the tour in 86, you guys didn't venture out to those parts of the... No, it was basically California and Chicago, I think, wasn't it, back then? Wow. So we went to New York. Oh, New York. New Jersey. Yeah. Chicago. Chicago. Chicago. Oh, Christ. LA. San Diego. San Francisco, San Diego. And that's about it, isn't it? I think we did nine... Baltimore. I think we did nine gigs. Yeah, Baltimore. We did nine gigs in like... A month, wasn't it? Wow. It was like... Real deal right there, right? We were out here for a long time. We was out here for like near enough four weeks and we only did nine gigs. We didn't have any money. We was given a lot of smoke. And a lot of pizza. It's nice to know things haven't changed. We sort of like went over there as 20-year-old skinny kids and came back 18 stone. And we got back. It's like, fuck man. I remember that time as well. I actually did have a bit of a tricky time just with my... Just the age. Couldn't get a drink from anywhere, you know? Yeah, right. I think I was 18 at that time. Yeah, I mean, I was 21 on that. No, I was 23 on that tour and I got refused tons of times. Really? Yeah. Sorry, man. It was because I never carried my passport around me or anything. Didn't have any other ID. And I was like, fuck man, I'm 23. You ain't fucking coming in, man. It ain't happening. No, no. Right. Let me ask you this. At that time, you know, at that time, this is before these artists became fucking these global commodities. Big fans of the English Dogs were members of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer. I'm trying to think of who else. But anyways, the point is, is now that these are world-renowned artists, have any of them contacted you? Yeah. There was a time where like James Heff... You know, there was that golden time... Yeah. ...where James Heff... James Heffield would wear the t-shirt of a... We met them. We met them in London. We were recording in London. And we got a phone call from like the record company basically saying, oh, Metallica are flying in. They want to come and see you. So we were... Do you remember? We were sort of sat in this pub. And we was upstairs above like a courtyard. And I was going, fuck, man, this is just a con, eh? Because it was like we were waiting for age. I think the flight would delay. I was going, fucking hell, somebody's having us on here, you know? And then they just all walked around. And they just all walked around the corner. And they was like, fucking hell, it's the English dogs. And we were going, fuck, man, it's Metallica. Yeah, that was amazing. Well, I mean, Exodus are very close friends, you know? Those are great guys. In fact, Jack's down tonight, eh? Yeah, well, we've been talking with Jack about getting up and playing with us. And he says he's going to... So Jack Gibson, if you're listening to this, I hope that you've got the song learned by now. I would love to see you play with these bands that at that time, not only were you neck and neck with, but in some cases, I would say that you were very influential. I mean, the conversations I've had with Kirk Hammett when we discussed the English dogs of that era, he has nothing but fond things to say. I would love to see you guys play with them. It's about time they asked us to play with them then, isn't it? Right? Pull your finger out, Mr. Hammett. That's what it's going to take to be truthful. I mean, it's like, you know, there's a lot of bands from the era that get covered. And I think it's, you know, it's a helping hand, you know, and like, you know, Diamond Head, they got a, you know... Discharge. Discharge of habit. Many. And really, we could do with one of those bands giving a bit of a helping hand and maybe covering one of their songs. I think it would be great also because obviously you have your fan base and you're well known in the genre. But those bands would expose you to a whole other market. Yeah. You know, a whole other... A whole other demographic. You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean, it would beat down a few walls. And it would be great to see, you know, neck and neck bands of that era going, you know, because I mean, you know, it's kind of like a price fight, you know? Things can get forgotten. It's easy. You know, like one day, you know... Dogs bollocks. A hot shot. Yeah, the dogs bollocks. And then the next day, you're just completely forgotten and no one really cares, you know? So it's like you need every now and again a little... Lift. A little helping hand. What's going on in regards to new music? Have you guys started writing new music? Well... How does the dynamic work? Writing new music is... Right now, it took so much getting that album done. We're just concentrating on that album. I am going through a period of trying to write new music, getting some inspiration from the stuff that we're listening to on this tour now. Yeah, well, it's looking for the inspiration. Inspirations, new inspirations. Which, I mean, when we came in 2012, there was no plan to do another album. It was just basically come and do that tour and that was... Really? Yeah. And then gradually, I could see Pinch and Giz gathering in these little corners and listening to stuff and I'm thinking, something's happening. The juices were flowing, you know? And I remember, was it Denver when we got to Denver? We stayed at Havoc's house and they had like a little studio downstairs and them two were... It was fucking straight on it, man. Down there, Pinch on the drums, him on guitar and then it was just like, yeah, let's do this new album and that's basically how it started. And it escalated from there, really. There was never no plan to do it. There wasn't a plan to do that album, was there? Jimmy, it's really taken so much just to get out here now. Yeah, I know. I mean, I'm still horrified at the disclosure of the visas. The efforts have been so great. Fucking highway robbery, man. Incredible. We're really, you know, it's literally just been one step at a time. I mean, we've had a couple of people that have helped us out no end, you know, like basically a sponsorship. And, you know, if it hadn't been for them, it wouldn't have been worthwhile. Right. We'd have come and lost money, you know, and there's not really any point in doing that. No, no, especially not in this day and age, you know what I mean? And it's not, especially not in this day and age and especially not at our age. I mean, I mean... I mean, I despair at all these DIY bands and they turn around and say, yeah, well, you know, the promoters asked us to play for nothing. Fuck that, man. The promoters are just going to go, well, we can get bands to play for nothing. Fuck you. Yeah. That's what they're doing. That's what's happening in England, you know. They get... And that's not the way to do it. Fuck that. I mean... But then the other thing is as well, of course, you know, they say, well, we'll go under the radar and we won't get visas. But then every now and again, one of them gets a phone call on them, you know, and we didn't... Yeah. Yeah. We want that. Yeah. We want to try and get back here. Yeah, absolutely. So, I mean, I think that the... It's actually, there was a friend that... I won't mention him just in case. But they did, they did get caught. It was on the Canadian border. And so they are now under a 10-year ban. Oh, Jesus. So they can't come over to the States. And I was talking with them about that, you know, and they said, you've got to get the visas. Don't risk it. Don't chance it. Don't fucking take a risk. Because if you do take the risk, you know, and it could happen, you could be the one. And so, no. Yeah. I mean, it's bad enough coming through immigration with a visa. Yeah. You know. They make you feel welcome. Them guys, yeah, they don't make you feel... You know, they just, like, stare at you like, you know. But, you know, it's bad enough coming through with a visa. You're still sort of going, fuck, man, is everything correct? You know, is everything in place? Yeah. Right. I mean, the last time... To come... And I... I mean, I've said to you, haven't I? I said, to me, these days, it actually looks easier to come over here without one. That's... And it shouldn't be like that. Right. The last time was even worse. Everywhere that I went through, I had a visa. Every stop, everywhere that I went through, I got stopped and made to wait for an hour or an hour and a half. And then, you know, a load of questions, going through documents. I bet you the guys from Oasis don't deal with this shit, already. These other fucking British fucking rock stars, they don't deal with this shit. Well, maybe they should get turned back anyway, so... I agree. Bet your boy George don't deal with that shit. When you're dealing with... I lost my train of thought there. You blew me away. I can't believe they fucking really put you through the fucking microscope with that, man. I understand, you know, the tight regiment that they have because of, you know, terror and, you know, all this shit. But, come on. Really? I don't know. Well, your country is very much in debt. And it's another way of generating money. Right? Let's bleed you dry, man. Let's bleed you dry. Let's bleed them fucking British dry. It's, you know, it's going to have something to do with that. Wow. Incredible. But, you know what? You're here. Yeah. You're here. We can't just make it happen. You're here. Three dates. Southern California, three dates of the English dogs. Tonight, Glendale. The Complex. Tomorrow, Long Beach. Long Beach. Alex's Bar in Long Beach. That's a great place. You're going to love that place. By the way, that's basically 30 years to the day since we played in Long Beach. Really? Fender's Ballroom. Fender's Ballroom. That's right. Basically, probably a couple of days different. Do you recall Fender's Ballroom? Yeah. Do you remember? Great place. I remember it because Pinch fell off his stool with exhaustion. He was playing with a fucking pirate hat on. And it was like 90 degrees outside and he was drumming away. And then all of a sudden, I looked around and he weren't there. Where is it? Where is it? Where is it? Oh, his floor collapsed. I was like, what the fuck is he doing? I was going, get up, get up. And he's like, fucking dying. He was sick. He was sick. It was like, fuck. I got on the drums for one song. Yeah, yeah. Fuck that. What I remember very vividly, I wish I had the footage of that, was when you were here three, four years ago, when you played at the Observatory. Yeah. That was a good game. At the time, I had a babbling fucking mental patient. Yeah. The name of Andy never shuts the fuck up for it. It's a guy that just babbles, babbles. Anyways, he decided to do a stage dive. And he went fucking, he jumped up and then he fucking went head down. He plumbed it right in his fucking head, man. He put his hat on me. And I want to thank you because that was the only time. He put his hat on me as he ran past. Yes. I was like, where's he going? And then, by the way, that was a smelly fucking hat. I'm surprised he didn't throw that shit back at him. In fact, he landed right in front of me in my camera. And I was watching him wiggle. He was just sitting around like a fish on the floor for a little while. He didn't get up. It took him about five minutes. No, yeah, he was out. No, he didn't get up. He sounds like he's coming up for people to help him. Everyone's just laughing. You fucking idiot. That was my footage. I want to thank you for that because for those five minutes, it was the only time that that motherfucker shut the fuck up. He did. He would never shut up. He's a big boy. I think everyone saw him coming. Yeah, they saw him coming. They just popped. I've seen AD do that. When we played with Exodus in London, AD did a stage dive. What? Yeah. I broke some girl's neck. Wait, what? She was like... Seriously? Yeah. I sort of fucking landed on top of her. What would make you want to do that? It was exciting. Because I was into it. You know, I was in the zone. In the moment. We were playing with fucking Exodus, man. Yeah, man. But I mean, you know, lower lumbar, you know, fucking... That's fucked anyway. Can't make that any worse anyway. So you decided to do a fucking stage dive. Yeah, I did. The audience gasped. That's been horrible. Well, they weren't expecting it. That's for certain. So I was like... I did land on top. I had a soft landing. Put it that way. Some girl was like... And she got up and she was like, Hey, that was fucking great. Well, hey, you know, they want to attend an English dog show. There it is, right? Give it to them right up front. You never know. You never know. It might even happen tonight. What I said earlier on, when people leave the shows... Leave the shows. Be in the back. We want them to leave the shows in a fucking ambulance. Literally. Literally. All right. As we mentioned, tonight, the English dogs will be playing the Complex in Glendale. Make sure you get your tickets for that. You guys are playing with the amazing best. Black Cobra, Witch Haven, and Temple of Dagon. Tomorrow, Alex's Long Beach. 30 days to the day, as you played Fender's Ballroom 30 years ago. 30 years since death. Wow. And in San Diego, the Soda... Soda Bar. Soda Bar. So make sure you get out for that. Let's hope they serve more than soda. Why don't we take a little... Let's go back and listen to some classic English... Chester, take it away. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. We'll be right back.
