I don't know what side you're going on. But there's a. There's a few sites that are inaccurate as far as my record goes. Officially, I'm 8 and 12. I did some fights up in Alaska, AFC, and those fights are unsanctioned. I'm learning that Sherdog accepts those unsanctioned fights as pro fights. I'm just wondering. I mean, I've been involved a lot with the sport of boxing, dude, matchmaking, stuff like that. And usually when it comes to boxers, it's fighters. In order to verify their record, the one source we go to, it's Fight Facts. You have to pay a fee to get a fighter's record, but it's usually thought of as. It's the most accurate one. It's the only one most commissions will accept. Right. How does it work for MMA? Which record source do they go to when they need to verify a fighter's? Yeah, for the most part, it's been Sherdog. Sherdog? Yeah, that's been the number one. That's the number one source I've been hearing a lot from me, from other fighters, other promoters. Like I said, my record isn't entirely accurate. And I'm learning that I guess Sherdog accepts unsanctioned fights, pro, quote-unquote, fights. I got four of those that I fought in Alaska, and they will not take that off my record. Wins or losses, they won't take it off. So my record just stands as is. But technically, I'm eight and 12. Yeah. All right. Right on. And actually, I guess you could just go back and make up for that, man, just by going back and kicking some of that ass. Oh, I'm going to do that. Definitely. March 16th. If you're not familiar with your past fights. But before, actually, Warchief, we wanted to start off with you guys. Tell us about your brand and your company and how it all came about. Yeah. Make sure you guys introduce yourself. Yeah. I'm Michael Quintal. We started around 2007. We basically wanted to bring something to the table that, you know, representing fight culture at its core. Through our philosophy, you know, strength, honor, pride, and courage. We believe that is, you know, the Warchief in everybody. And that's what we want to invoke. That's what we want to put out. You know. And the main focus of your, of the brand in the beginning, was it always MMA or do you branch out into other styles of fighting? Yeah. How did it really come, like, how did the, you know, the concept when you guys sat down and said, you know, this is what we want to do? You know, it's an all-around company. It's not just MMA. We do boxing. Mm-hmm. I'm a big boxing fan. So, when me and Mike sat down, we're like, you know, we love all fighting forms, not just MMA. So, we, it's like, it's very diverse. It's not just MMA, jiu-jitsu. It's boxing, kickboxing, any fighting form that's usable in the cage and also in the street. And, you know, when this company started, are you guys out of Los Angeles? Where did it originally come up? Yeah. Well, I grew up in the South Central area. I grew up in Hollywood. I grew up in Huntington Park. I know, I grew up in Huntington Park as well. But, yeah, it's a Los Angeles-based company. Oh, okay. And now, besides yourself, is it, are there other people involved with the creative process or who does most of the design work? Yeah, right now, it's a two-man crew right now. It's me and Mike. We're the CEOs, the secretaries, the janitors. We're doing everything all at once. And we got a couple of friends that help us out when we need it. Come on. More than a couple. I've seen them pictures, man. You guys filling up the riverbed, dude. Yeah. We got some good friends. Yeah. We got some fighters out there. Street fighters, underground fighters. And eventually, they'll come out, you know, mainstream. But we started, you know, street fighting. So, we're starting from the foundations. It's, you know, street fighting. And now, we got professional fighters like Mikel Polo-Clark. And, you know, he's doing his thing. So, like I said, it's very diverse. Boxers. MMA fighters. Street fighters. I thought you guys were going to say you started off with the Mika since you're in HB. Let's keep it real, dude. Yeah, man. things and after that it was just uphill from there all right i appreciate that mark and uh and so with um with uh war chief how long has the company been been around um officially we've been around since 2007 but uh you know the the the plans of this company growing was like way back since like 2001 2002 it's you know we talked about it talked about it and we're finally you know doing our our dream and uh and actually uh that was actually probably before mma was legal in california were you um were you going to like uh fights in like you know vegas or other places or oh yeah oh yeah vegas we used to do the vegas trips with the boys all the frat boys and the boys from the hood you know going straight to vegas doing the you know watching the ufc fights yeah i was just telling bolo uh um the the time we went to vegas to watch the rampage fight and it was like ridiculous afterwards man but yeah we we do all that yeah so how'd you guys come up how'd you guys come up with the name uh war chief uh you know like uh like every warring countries uh there's always uh that dominant figure that everybody looks up to okay and uh we wanted like a powerful name that when you say the name it you know it evokes power so war chief came up out and the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the that down. And when the family came in, the Placencia and Negrete family came in, I took an immediate liking to them. And they're very, very smart. They learn very fast, very athletic. And the youngest one of them all, Tristan, my godson, who his mom was talking about, he is just like a. He's just like a little adult, 10 years old, but catches on very fast. He picks up a lot faster than some professional fighters I know. I really mean it. I believe it. I believe it. Because they started him young. Even one of the local guys in the Mootai scene, Jacob Salas, he had one of his kids out at a smoker in Long Beach, right next to San Pedro. And the kid was five. Really? The kid did three rounds with good technique. Wow. Yeah, see? And you don't see that in some fighters out. But when you look at this kid, and I'm not hyping him up. We actually got footage of him. And he's very, very good. You see those kids on the tap-out commercials? Yeah, yeah. Those two, they were sparring. My godson, Tristan, he'll put some work in on them. Guaranteed. And yeah, the striking is really coming up with the really young kids. Especially in that area around. Long Beach and the South Bay. That's right. There's a lot of good schools out there. Well, even here, just Southern California. And that's good. Kids off of the streets, not in trouble, in the gym, doing something productive with their self. And that's what I see in these kids. Doing it with control. That's right. The good thing is you're that young, you retain the muscle memory. Just the moves and the form and everything. Yes, you do. Oh, before I competed in MMA, I did a lot of stick fighting arts, bladed arts like Kali and Screamer and stuff like that. Oh, okay. One of the arts is an Indonesian art. Not too many people know it's called silat. Silat. Long story short, my instructor, I don't want to mention his name. He likes to be unanimous. Not put him on blast, but he told me stories about back in the Philippines, how when the war was going on, there was a group. There was a platoon, a unit that they were called the Bolo Bataan. And they were a fierce group. And what they would do, I'm going to keep it short, but they were fearless warriors and they would kill soldiers with their machetes. They weren't trusted enough to have firearms. So they were given blades and weapons and stuff like that. And when they would go to war, they would wrap tourniquets around their arms and around their legs. So if they got shot, they wouldn't bleed to death instantly. They would be able to last a lot longer. Because of that, I was told that's why the .45 caliber was invented, was created, a higher caliber of a bullet. But anyway, they were known as lethal type assassins and stuff like that. Bolo is no word for machete or blade, so I like to think of myself as a weapon. So that kind of stuck with me. And I trained with the guy, so yeah, he is a weapon. He hurts. Man, if you see this guy hit a bag, man, it's like powerful. Yeah. Yeah, dude. They just being nice. They just being nice. What happened the first go-around you guys had? Man, you know what? First time, I was just leaving Ken Shamrock's camp. And that was over in Reno, Reno, Nevada. And I was coming back to California to my original gym. And I got the call if I wanted to fight on Strikeforce. I don't even think I asked who it was. I just said, yeah. That can get you a fight. On that stage, exactly. You take that opportunity. Right, you take that opportunity. I was in shape. I went ahead and did it. And I was told that it was going to be in my hometown at that time, up in Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma Dome. I went there. My opponent was Josh Bennett. Regardless of who it was, I was just going to do my thing. And I went in there, did what I do best. I won to referee stoppage second round due to a, I think he had a swollen eye or something like that. How'd he get that, man? Oh. Yours truly, man. I was letting him have it. He's a tough guy. I'm not taking anything away from him because he's a tough guy. If the ref didn't stop it, he would have kept going. Yeah. Guaranteed, he would have kept going. But I tipped my hat off to him. And ever since then, he's been wanting a rematch. And I know how it is having a loss on your record or really feeling that you can beat that opponent that you just lost to. And I'm willing to accept that challenge and give him his rematch that he wanted because I know right now, off the top of my head, I can name some people. Off my list that I lost to by decision that don't want to fight me again. Like who? Mike Kyle. Travis Brown. What? What are you pointing? You knew this? I was going to say that? No, seriously. And that was for the longest time. That was my Achilles heel was the ground. I wasn't too comfortable and confident on the ground. But this past year, 2010, I didn't compete at all. MMA. I did a lot of Jiu Jitsu tournaments. I did a lot of grapplers X. I did. I did a whole lot. And I placed I placed first or second place in the advanced division. So. He was scheduled to fight Rudiger. Yeah, Rudiger. On the previous show, Bad Beat 4, Musa was called on short notice, and he was still going to take the fight anyway. He wound up hurting his ribs two to three days before weigh-in, so he couldn't take the fight. He still wanted to take the fight until two or three coaches and his training partners, including me, told him not to take the fight. He's on a good roll right now. You know, heal up, and then you'll fight again. So when this fight, Bad Beat 5, came up, you know, he thought he was in line. At first, his name was on the card, and then he got taken off. All right? There was some words being passed back and forth. I don't know which site. It was on MMA Weekly. MMA Weekly that he had backed out. That he's ducking. That he's done. I know. I trained with him personally. I know him personally. We've been roommates for over three, four years now. Okay? I know Musa. And I'm not just saying that just because. He doesn't duck fights. I know him as a fighter personally, and he doesn't do that. So just to clear the record, I'm speaking for him. That is not the case. He will fight anybody, any given time, on good notice. Even though the simple fact that he was called on short notice, he was still willing to do it until he was told otherwise. All right. That's an FYI. I want to say that for the record. All right.
