Time Out with Coach Mike Miller. Hey, welcome. Welcome to Time Out. Time out with Coach Miller. We're back. We're live, Scott. We are in studio at Skid Row Studios. Skid Row Studios. We should have set up some TV monitors with the tournament. You know, I watched a lot of the tournament today. And one thing I learned, Scott, this is a fact. There is no one left in America or the world who has a bracket that is intact. Really? Not even like in some office pool? 11 million people on ESPN. None of them have finished the $1 billion challenge. Nobody has a complete one. It's over. The $1 billion is safe. Yeah. Warren Buffett is still a rich man. There was what? I think they did the math. It was like a 1 in 20 trillion chance. I think you had a better chance of hitting the lottery three times in a row than hitting this. Well, when Mercer took out Dirk, that was just like. That just blew everybody's bracket up. That was just like, you know, forget it. Now, Chris, you know, and you can testify to this. I had Dayton over Ohio State, didn't I? Yes, you did. I had Pitt over Colorado. I had that. Okay. And I had Harvard over Cincinnati yesterday. I was 16-0 yesterday. Yeah, you were. You had texted me your. I text you all the picks. You had texted me your picks in the morning. That's right. Because every year me and you do a, we have a friendly one for ourselves. And then we did one on ESPN this year. So, yeah, you did do good yesterday. I think I was like 14-2. I think my best bracket was like 14-2 or 13-3. Or something like that. I was 16-0 yesterday. Yeah, you were sitting pretty yesterday. And the building just collapsed on me today. On everybody. It wasn't just you. Wow. It got to the point where in the afternoon, everybody was just like, you know what? Let me throw this away. Yeah, no kidding. Well, listen, what we've got tonight is a special, special show. We've got, I've been bugging coach Anthony Hilliard to come on the air for a long time. I've been bugging him for like two, three months. I've been bugging him. The couch. Just wearing him. I'm out. The gauchos from Narbonne High School. I've been bugging him and bugging him and bugging him. I finally got him here in studio. Welcome. A special welcome to coach Anthony Hilliard. He is my coach of the year. Here we go, coach. Welcome. Thanks a lot, coach. We appreciate being here tonight. Okay. Well, it's great to have you. And you've got, you're well represented tonight. We've got coach Moore to your right. And we've got a bunch of the Narbonne gauchos in the house. To my left. I've got super sophomore. I was about to say, y'all don't look happy. Oh, y'all look mad. They're missing the UCLA game. Yeah, that makes them mad? Okay. They don't care about UCLA. They care about Narbonne. That's right. That's what's important. Narbonne. Well, I do. So for the next like five minutes, you might hear like little random grunts from me because I am watching the game. UCLA should be well in control by now. There should be no grunting. Well, we're only up by six right now. Maybe if they played some more road games to start the season. Yeah. You know how I feel about that. Yeah. We're not going to talk about that again. Okay. Okay. Well, anyway, to my left, you interrupted me. I was about to introduce the super sophomore, Jamal Hicks. I want to give a special congratulations to Jamal. Jamal was selected for the top 24 LA Classic. Jamal Hicks is going to play in the top 24 game. Underclassmen game. Thank you, Chris. In the LA Classic. That's April 5th at East LA College. It's going to be a great event. So don't we have the full roster coming out today? We do. We're going to announce. We're going to announce. We're going to announce on the air. We haven't been able to do it for the last two weeks. Yep. We're going to announce the teams on the air live tonight. We're going to announce the teams. But because Jamal's sitting to my left, I just thought I'd throw that out there. Like, okay, Jamal Hicks got the first announcement. Top 24 underclassmen game. Hey. That's why he had that grin on his face when he walked in. Well, you see, they all not happy over there, like you said, Chris. But Jamal's brother played for me, Chris. Did you know that? Yeah. You told me that earlier. Like, Jamal's brother played for me. How long ago? Oh, boy. Oh, boy. It'd be 99. Yeah, quit it. Yeah, don't tell me he played for you. Scott would know better than me. Oh, I can't remember. The years blur together. I've been coaching over 30 years. The years blur together. 98 or 99. Mr. Hicks, what year did Devin play for me? It's been 30 years ago. It was 30 years ago. Yeah, okay. It wasn't 30. But I've been coaching over 30 years. But it was a long time ago. I don't remember. Scott, you might know. It was 99. It was 99. It was the same year as that the women's. Women's team started. Is that right? Yeah. Yes. And how do you know that? He dated one of the players. Oh, he dated one of the players? See, this is how we remember historical facts. What year did Devin Hicks play? The year he dated one of the players of the women's team. Oh, my God. They run in a family. They run in a family? Okay. Okay, okay. Yeah, we got some questions for you later on. Okay. Chris, can you ask him a question right now? Well, I'll let you finish your introductions, and then we'll get off into them after. I always have an introduction when we start. I start off with my team. I've got Jeremy in the sound booth. Jeremy. How's it going? I'm good. I'm good. What's the word in there? Everything's going good. Okay. We got any calls or what? We got a guy that's calling, but I think his phone keeps dropping, so we'll work on that back here. I see a call right now on my board. Put him on the air. Let me see who it is. Caller, you're on the air. Caller, you're on the air. Caller, you're on the air. Jeremy. Hello? Yeah, hello, caller. Go ahead. Oh, I can ask a question? You can ask a question. We got Narbonne High School in the house tonight. What do you got? Oh, oh. Jamal Hicks. Why is he so garbage? Why is he so garbage? This must be one of his friends asking that. Because he's not garbage. He must not be too garbage. He's one of the top 24 underclassmen in the city this year. He sucks. He can't be. Chris, say that again. He sucks. He sucks. He sucks. Well, he can't be too garbage. He's one of the top 24 players in the city this year. Tomatoes boss. Tomatoes boss. One of the top 24 players in Gardena? Wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait. Who is this caller? Caller, what's your name? It's KVON and Tramell, man. You know KVON and Tramell? Yeah. They go to View Park. Oh, they go to View Park? Oh, yeah. Then they have a right to be jealous of you then. Well, wait a second. No, View Park's playing tomorrow. Yeah, they are playing tomorrow. View Park's still playing, so they don't have to be jealous, but I'm saying Jamal can go dunk on them, though. Division four, though. Division five. Division five. Let's not get a twisted. City division five? Yeah. Okay. A lot of divisions. You didn't answer my question, though. Okay. Well, I don't think he's garbage, so. We don't think he's garbage. We think he's a top 24 underclassman in the city. That's why he made the LA Classic top 24 game. You might be buying a ticket. You might have to come in and watch while he's playing. I ain't gonna buy shit. You ain't gonna buy shit? Okay. All right. Well, then you won't get to see the game. All right. Anyway, thanks for calling in. Okay. I got another call coming up here, Jeremy. I got another call coming up here. So, anyway, I do my introductions as we start the show, and I've got Jeremy handled here. I've got Scott Schultz over here to my left. Scott is my special guest co-host, and Scott is a former Cub. Yep. A former student of mine at LACC. Yep. Yep. I was at the LA City College campus this past week promoting one of my shows. I had to stop into the newspaper office and saw my picture on the wall. Nice. It was really weird. That is really weird. Yeah. Doing a... Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's a karate kick. How many years ago was that picture taken? That was 2005. That was when the guy ran down, swiped my laptop, and I chased him down the street and tackled him, and we brawled on the sidewalk, and the guy came back and wrote an article about it. Nice. I like it. I like it. Well... Hey, and I was promoting this show. Stick this on the camera there. What do I got here? Okay. I've got a show here, Jeremy. Let's run it. Can you see it? Focus in. Okay. Okay. We got it here. One of my storytelling shows. It's... This Thursday night, 7.30 p.m., it's busted in Echo Park. True story is about getting around L.A. by people who don't drive. And great show, great lineup. See, the thing about Scott, Coach Moore, which you don't know, which you're about to know, is Scott is a professional storyteller. Okay. That's what he does. He's a professional storyteller. Now, I know, probably like me, you've never met a professional storyteller before. No, I never. Now, probably Grandpa or Crazy Uncle was a storyteller, right? Yes. I mean, we all have a Crazy Uncle. I know I have one. Yes, I definitely do. And I have several. So they're storytellers, but they're not professional storytellers. Scott Schultz over here is a professional storyteller. That means that Coach buys me dinner a lot. I got you. I got you. Hey, before I get to my next call, I've got to finish up my team introductions. Then we bring in our guests. Talk about the show. My favorite former power forward diagonal sitting across from me is that man over there. He's intently watching the UCLA game as we speak. His name is Chris Maxwell. What's up, Coach? I saw a picture online of some kid passing himself off as Chris Maxwell, and I'm like, no way. Was that like 200 pounds ago? Yeah, at least. Not 200, but it was a ways ago. That was a thin kid. Well, let me tell you, Devin. Not Devin. Jamal. I look at him, and I want to say Devin. Devin had a mustache. Yeah. Let me tell you something, Jamal. Jamal, I'll have one, too, in a couple years. Let me tell you something, Jamal. You see that guy? That guy was the starting power forward on Coach Miller's first state championship team. That guy right there. 23 years ago. What is this? 20? 23 years ago? 23 years ago. Dear God. Yeah, getting old. He's dating me, Coach Moore. He's dating me. I'm dating myself. Okay. All right. All right. Okay. That means you're at least 40, right? Just turned 42 last week. Oh, wow. Like a boss. Okay. All right. Well, listen. That's my team. I've got some great guests tonight. I've got Narbonne High School here in the house. I've got Coach Anthony Hilliard. I call him T. Hill. In my phone contacts, it says T. Hill. Why does it say T. Hill? That's what they call me in college. That's right. See? It says T. Hill. And I got to meet Coach Moore, and he's right over here. I've got Jamal Hicks, who's one of the super, super sophomores in the city. And I've got these Narbonne guys they're going to bring on the air here in a little bit, by the way. Hope you guys are ready to get on the air. Coach, I think we were ahead of our time, because I'm looking at their rings, and their rings are way bigger than ours. I wish our ring was that big. It's not that big, but it's... Well, that, if I'm not mistaken, is the Gardena High School City Championship ring from last year, where Coach Anthony Hilliard coached, and Coach Moore was his assistant, one of his assistants, and they won the city championship last year. Right. And Division II City Championship, which, by the way, if you're from View Park, and you're listening, and you're talking about my guy, Jamal Hicks... They just hit me up right now. If you're from View Park, you won the Division V City Championship, not the Division... Division II or I. Like Coach Hilliard did. Okay? So, just so we're clear. Anyway, I got another call. Chris, I'm going to take this call, and then we're going to take a quick commercial break, and we're going to, you know, talk some Narbonne basketball. Caller, you're on the air. Oh, hi. This is Mike here from Compton, California. Hello. Compton, California. We love Compton. Yes, yes, yes. I'm a big fan of the Narbonne basketball team, and I'm just here to wish everyone the best of luck, and, you know, just good stuff. Well, you know what? Narbonne had a great run this year. If you're a fan of the team, you know that. They won their league championship, and they went to the city semifinals. I saw them play. They should have won the game. They should have beat Westchester, and they missed a couple free throws too many. They should have beat Westchester. Westchester plays tomorrow night. Great game. They play Matter Day, and a winner gets to go up to the state championship, and I tell you, I've won three state championships as a coach. I know how special it is, and Coach Hilliard will eventually win one. I'm convinced of that because he's a very, very good coach, and he's one of the best young coaches, actually, I know, and one of the best coaches in the city for sure. Caller, do you know any of the Narbonne high school players? I'm familiar with Jamal Hicks. I mean, my little sister has a crush on him. Oh! This dude is sounding like a pimp out here. Nah, nah, nah. It's a Hicks family tradition. Oh. Your little sister has a, so who do you have a crush on? To be honest, I don't really follow football. I mean, what is this, basketball? Basketball. But, I mean, you know, I've seen them play at my school, King Drew, so, I mean, they killed us. Okay. Well, so you don't have a crush on anyone you're saying? No, I don't. I'm sorry. But your sister? For all the Narbonne guys, if you guys are looking to have a fun time, you know, I'm having a party bus April 18th. You guys just got invited to a party. Well, the Narbonne guys have got invited to a party. Now, I'm going to invite you and your sister to see Jamal Hicks play in the Los Angeles Classic April 5th at East L.A. College. Jamal is going to be playing. He's going to be playing in the top 24 underclassmen game, and the admission for that game is free, okay, for the underclassmen game. Now, for the senior game, we have two games that are senior games. We have the Valley versus the South region, and just so you know, the South region is represented by two Narbonne players and by a coach, and we'll announce that a little later on tonight. All right. All right. All right. All right. All right. All right. I really appreciate you listening to the show. But April 5th at East L.A. College, you may want to come, or at least your sister wants to come and see Jamal play. And the admission is free, so there's no excuses why she can't come and see Jamal play. Okay? Yeah, two days after my birthday, I'll be there. Okay. There you go. That sounds good. Hey, sweetheart, thank you for calling in. I'm going to be there too. Oh, that must be the little sister, Jamal. That must be the one. Yeah, I'm a little sister. That's a little sister. What's your name, sweetheart? What's your name, sweetheart? Hello? Yeah, what's your name, sweetheart? Anonymous. Anonymous? Okay. I was going to hook you up with Jamal, but I guess since you're playing hard to get. Okay. Well, thank you for calling in. Appreciate it. Okay. Jeremy, let's run our commercial break. And when we get back, we'll talk a little more Narbonne basketball. This is Coach Miller from Time Out with Coach Miller. Full focus, we got a topic to discuss. High school, prep school, small colleges, yeah. Another special guest today. Listen up. It might get a little hectic from the stuff we discuss. Hey, we're back. We're live. Welcome back to Time Out with Coach Miller. We are on the air. We've got Coach Moore, Coach Hilliard, who's the head coach at Narbonne. I've got Jamal Hicks here, who's a great sophomore. Hey, Jamal. Is this your first year playing varsity? Yeah. Okay. So what happened? What did you do this year? I did all right. Okay. Tell me about it. I played hard. Had good teammates. We did good. I wanted to go to the city, but I wanted to go to the finals, but we didn't get that far. I missed a lot of free throws. Yeah. Yeah. How many free throws did you miss? In the guesswork test, I missed one. Okay. So we can't blame you too much on that. You can blame me. Every point count. You're right. That's a good attitude. That's a great attitude. Yeah. That's a good attitude. See, Chris is going to keep you in line over here. Like I told you, he... Yeah, we need a little bit more out of you. You told me earlier you weren't nervous, so we needed a couple more words out of you in those sentences. All right. Chris averaged a double-double for me. That was over 20 years ago, huh? Yeah. So he used to kind of brutalize people in the paint, so he brutalizes people up here if they don't act right. He's big enough to do it, you know. So, Chris, go ahead. You're on the air, Chris. How... How... How did you feel that this is your first year and you're a sophomore? How many seniors do you guys have on the team? Like eight. Okay. So how did you fit in with all those upperclassmen? I played my role. Like if a 10 or a red wanted to score, I just let them do their thing. Right. I just did what I had to do to win. Okay. And what did you feel that you added to the team this year for... Heart. Heart. Heart. In what way? Hustle. Hustle. I'm an animal. Okay. I go for the ball. Is that right, coach? Yeah. He goes hard. That's because I see him over there. I'm looking at him, but I see him in the corner of my eye nodding approval. So you ain't lying. So, okay. So you play good D? Yeah. Okay. So you're the type of player that does whatever the team needs. Yeah. Okay. Okay. So, see, the thing is, I'm going to tell you, is Coach Hilliard, I really think he's one of the best young coaches around, Chris. You haven't seen him coach. He's a great coach. He's a great coach. He's a great coach. He's a great coach. They play very disciplined, very sound basketball offensively and defensively. They play a lot like my teams. They play. They don't play wild. They play controlled basketball. They play the right way. And, you know, the thing is, is that he called me or maybe text me one of the two, whatever. He communicated with me. And he said, you know, Jamal is really deserving of being in the top 24 underclass game. I mean, he was, like, on it. And the thing about T. Hill, and you players kind of know this, and we're going to be talking to you about T. Hill here in a few minutes, is, you know, he's a man of few words. He doesn't over-talk. So, when he says something like that, you know, it's meaningful. I mean, you know, it means something. And so, he was like, Scott, he was like, you know, Jamal really needs to be in this game. I mean, this is really, you know, really important. And so, when I heard that, you know, I was like, I'm going to go to T. Hill. You know, I shared that with our committee. We have a committee that is, you know, basically the advisory committee for the game and some really great coaches. Sam Sullivan from Fremont, Steve Ackerman from University High, and a number of coaches. I'm not going to name them all, but, you know. How many? Like about six? Six, about six, yeah. Joe Reed at HP, who's an old friend of mine. And, you know, so, we share, I shared that, Jamal, Coach Hilliard's. You know, recommendation with the committee. And, you know, you were selected. So, I mean, I tell you what, I guess that makes you all happy, right? Oh, yeah. Well, I definitely think he deserves it. Yeah. First team all league as a sophomore. Yeah. 18 points against Westchester. Yeah. Semi-final. So, I mean, just all year, like he said, he gave his heart. So, when you got somebody that fights like that, I just definitely think he deserves to be in the top 24 game. Yeah, I agree. Now, Chris usually asks about their grades. Chris, go ahead. Yeah, how's your grades? Because whatever you do on the court, I mean, it doesn't mean anything if your grades aren't right. So, how are your grades? My grades are good. Okay, that is not telling me anything. How's your grades? I'm playing. I got like 2.9, 3.0. Okay, there you go. That's a B-. That's my highest class. Okay, so now you know what you need to work on. Like, when you know you need to work on something on the court. Yeah. Okay, so get the math grades up. So, this time next year, you guys come back and when I ask you that question again, we'll be at what? Like a 3.3, 3.4, somewhere around there? Yeah, I got you. That's what's up. One thing I know is that the first game of the year, when Narbonne plays, they're going to win. Why is that, Chris? I don't know. You tell me. Because we have a winning streak in here. We do. Okay. Whoa! Not a streak, because our streak got broke. Yeah. So, we win. We got to start a new one. So, we're going to start a new one with you guys. We had a streak going on this year that every team that came in here and was on our show, they won their next game. And we're talking, Coach Moore, we're talking about, we've had D1 teams in here, coaches, D1 coaches, JC, girls basketball, boys, whatever. Every team won their next game, except for one. Except for one. Who was that? Westchester. Lost to El Camino. In the city finals. In the city finals. That was the only one. We had them in. We had them in on a Friday. The night before. The night before. And they lost the next game. And that was the only team. We should have got in here before we played Westchester. Yeah. We had a couple teams that was trying to get in here before they played. Yeah. Yeah. So, that means we're going to win the first game next year for sure, right? Yeah. Okay. So, anyway, Jamal, let me ask you this question. Coach Hilliard, tell me about him. Tell me about him. Yeah. Tell me about him. Yeah. He's a great coach. I know. But you tell me about him. He doesn't talk. He does not talk. Like you said, he says a few words, but we all listen to him. Yeah. Yeah. What do you think he does that's special? Because you know he's special. Tell me what he does that's special. He slows the game. He controls the game. He knows what he's talking about. When he says something, I listen. I know he's right. Yeah. Right. Okay. I'm going to tell you one thing that's going to help you out. You're a sophomore, right? So you got two more years with him, right? Yeah. Okay. So you guys have a summer league team this year, right? Yes. Okay. Start, and this goes for all the players. Anybody that's coming back or anybody that's going to continue playing in college, wherever, start looking at the game the way he sees the game. You know what I mean? Like when he tells you guys to do something, don't just do it on the court. See why he's telling you to do that on the court because it will help you out a lot. Yeah. Because then you'll be able to see it. Yeah. From a coach's point of view. So start looking at it through his eyes and seeing why, not just what he's telling you, but why he's telling you to do it. Because especially like when you're on the bench and you see him, he tells one of your teammates, okay, I need you to do this. See why he's telling them because then you can see the defense. Okay. That's why he's telling them. Okay. Because this is going to help you guys later on on the court. So it'll really help you guys. Great advice, Chris. Scott, give out our number if people want to call in. If you have any questions for Coach Miller or the Narbonne high school team, you can call in at 800-893-9562. That's 800-893-9562. And Chris, how do people get our show? They can get our show one of many ways. First, they can go on Skid Row Studios and they can download any of the older episodes. They can go on YouTube. They can time out with Coach Miller and they can watch on YouTube. They can also go to the iTunes store and download and type in. They can time out with Coach Miller and they can download any of our past shows. Yeah. The iTunes, I think, is free, right, Scott? Yep. Free subscription. You can click in there, see all the past shows. You can even go back in, find out where that party bus is leaving. Yeah, that's right. I think they invited Jamal to the party. Yeah, just wear your Narbonne jacket. Yeah, just wear your Narbonne jacket. You get on free. Okay. So, hey, I've got a call. Caller, you're on the air. Go ahead, caller. I have a quick question for Jamal. For Jamal? Go ahead. How is the recruiting process going for him? Jamal? It's going good. Like, it's not as I want it to be, but it's something. Okay. So, Coach Hilliard and your father, Mr. Hicks, are probably helping you a lot with that, right? Yeah. Okay. So, do you have a specific question for Jamal about the recruiting process? What school does he want to go to and who's sending him letters? Okay. I want to go to Arizona or USC. No kidding. Come on, man. We know UCLA. Nah. That's like the bottom half of the pack there. Yeah, you're in the wrong house with talking about USC. It's surrounded by Bruins. So, say that again about USC? You're going to raise your goals. Wait, wait, wait. Say that again about, I want to go to Arizona or USC? I want to go to Arizona or USC. No. USC isn't. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. wants to go scott come on give him a break he's he's he's only 15 i'm trying to give him a break i'm trying to push him in the right direction okay well let him let him let him strive strive for the blue and gold let him have his dreams okay so um and and the caller wants to know who's sending you letters no northern arizona and i talked to new mexico state okay good all right nice so they they gave you a call and checked in told you they're interested like yeah the travel ball game okay good all right that's good stuff okay caller thank you for calling in we appreciate your uh participation uh jeremy it looks like we got another call i'm gonna take one more call then we'll take a short break uh let's bump this call up here okay so uh chris back to the itunes and the youtube so the itunes they get us by going on the go to the um apple store uh the app store um no the itunes store excuse me i had to you um and type in time out with coach miller and they could download any past show that we've been on okay including this show right including tonight's show so so you can if you want to come back in and you want to you want to or if they want to see jamal because the sister of the caller has a crush on him right if they want to see jamal on the air instead of listening to it on itunes they can go on the youtube channel which is the skid row studios youtube channel right then they go to that channel they type in time out with coach miller they can get all our episodes and they can see jamal on the air and then they can keep it and they can keep it right right so if you're if you're that little girl yeah it sounds like just a couple girls if you're that little girl and you want to see jamal that's how you do it okay music behind it put some music behind i got another call caller you're on the air hello caller go ahead all right um this is a question for our coach hill and uh jamal okay this season seemed like a success but um how's it looking forward to next season how's it looking oh good good coach hill you go ahead and take that it's looking great i mean we got a good young team got a good group coming back and uh we're really excited for the future i think our freshman class was one of the best freshman classes since i've been at narbonne past seven years since uh probably since uh shiloh rest in peace uh rest in peace we're going to a funeral tomorrow for shiloh who was one of narbonne's best players he uh was shot and killed and passed away uh recently so we definitely want to send shout outs to his family and we'll be at the funeral tomorrow but uh definitely this ninth grade class is one of the best classes that we ever had at narbonne that that sounds like there's a promising future there right i mean big big time future jamal how do you because he asked you and and coach how do you feel about the the future of narbonne it's gonna be nice you're gonna be nice you're gonna be nice next year so these freshman coach was talking about you know all these guys but they didn't play varsity with you yeah some did a couple did oh they did yeah but we got one here we don't have shane back next year we don't have shane he missed out this year okay which one is shane right there okay okay we're gonna have shane on the air here in a minute so we'll find out a little bit more about that so what do you what do you feel that you need to work on to help your team out for next year shooting okay shooting free throws shooting and free shooting and free throws shooting and free throws shooting and free throws shooting and free throws okay so what are you prepared to do to get that done work it's not telling me anything what are you prepared to do i know you're gonna work i mean you gotta do you gotta work to get at it i mean like what such as what in the gym shooting all the time how many shots you know i'll be on my child ball coach at washington every day getting up shots okay how many shots you're gonna get up every day enough nope that's not 50 000 how many shots you're gonna get up every day every day more than 200 more than 200 yeah okay coach tell him how many shots he needs to get because this is the shot the original shot doctor right here shot doctor oh that was a long time ago yeah that was a long time ago um you should be able to get up 500 shots in an hour so if you exactly if you if i mean you're gonna be sweating and working but it's non-stop movement but in one hour you should be able to get 500 up so my thing is if if if you can't do like an hour straight and to push yourself and make that a priority then you're not committed to getting better you're not committed to being a great shooter or even a good shooter so that's something that but he's young see he's only 15 i'm gonna give him a break and say i'm telling him now for the first time and you know we'll he works hard so i mean let's see what he does with it exactly okay let's see what he does with it so okay so uh caller we thank you for the call we appreciate it very much and i got one more call then we're going to take a commercial break we got a lot of calls coming in 1-800-893-9562 we've got narbonne in the house the narbonne gauchos and they are in the house caller you're on the on the ear over 30 wins it was for four straight years first to win state my high school and college career over 30 wins it was for four straight years first to win state my high school and college career okay we're live we're back on the air we are at skid row studios and scott uh exciting to have narbonne high school in the house a lot of energy huh yeah no kidding and a lot of calls a lot of calls yeah it's great and our phone number again is skidrowstudios.com is 1-800-893-9562 definitely uh pushing up the uh the the female demographic this week uh yeah we're gonna we're gonna be able to sell a lot of cosmetics and stuff i think you know i mean fresh advertisers i mean we we've got some in fact we've got a couple new uh advertisers that are coming in and um a little shout out right now to uh my favorite uh cobbler lady shay if you're listening and shay coach miller is a cobbler maniac now are you talking about apple cobbler or a shoe cobbler she makes apple cobbler she makes a boysenberry cobbler there's only two she makes cherry and peach she makes cherry cobbler she makes peach cobbler she makes sweet potato pie cobbler how do you get this cobbler uh you go down to the hollywood farmer's market on sunday okay you go down to the hollywood farmer's market and she has a booth and hollywood and vine and hollywood and vine and you you just look for shay who's got this table set up with these beautiful cobblers and she's gonna she's gonna be uh one of the sponsors on her company of the la classic she's gonna serve dessert at our brunch that we're having great yeah she's gonna serve dessert at our brunch and um and so uh and then we're gonna have the games afterwards so you're playing basketball with a cobbler well you know you won't eat a lot of cobbler probably yeah just be a small piece more for us there you go there you go anyway it's 1-800-893-9562 it's exciting to have narbonne in the house we've got the narbonne got shows i think coach anthony hilliard i call him t hill is one of the best coaches in the city maybe the best actually but he does a great job they probably should have beat westchester they outplayed westchester in that game i saw the game um uchenna is with us on the air now who was the starting point guard he's to my left let me get a little camera action on him here okay uchenna what do you think happened well how come you didn't beat westchester it looked like you were gonna beat him what happened uh i think it was like the free throws kind of killed us come a little closer you got to get about three inches to the mic there you go and uh late in the fourth quarter i think we fouled about a little bit too much okay we're just giving it to him and then they got ahead yeah they kind of got ahead late huh yeah yeah and and and it looked like i mean you were never really blowing them out but it looked like to me that you had control do you agree with that you had control of the game yeah we did many people thought it was gonna get blown out right yeah it's because westchester and they never heard of us so right that was an easy game right but i knew you weren't gonna get blown out because coach hilliard has a game plan and he controls like jamal said earlier when he was on the air he's gonna control the game like i saw your game if i don't know if you remember i saw your game against crenshaw yeah in the playoffs and you just like controlled the game very methodical and just kind of like it was just like boom boom boom it was like reciting the alphabet scott you know just consistent yeah and eventually i mean it was like you were up five at in the first quarter or six then you were up ten or twelve then you were up then the third you were up sixteen eighteen remember the game yeah and finally i had a show that night it was a friday night i left in the beginning of the fourth quarter and i mean you were up twenty one twenty two and it was like very methodical just the way it should be and so i thought the same thing was happening with the Westchester game. Obviously, you weren't separating that much, but you were in control. And then kind of just looked like what happened was you guys missed a lot of free throws in the third and fourth quarters. I would also say that we did give it to them, but it was kind of getting a little bit too physical. And then I think it got to our heads kind of. Is that right? Yeah. They are physical. They are physical. I saw them play. I sat courtside. One of the benefits, Scott and Chris, of doing this show is I get the media passes now wherever we go. And I got to sit courtside for the Westchester-Redondo Union game, which was Tuesday night. And they blew out Redondo Union. I mean, they were up 20 a lot of the night. And they were physical with them. They were physical, like you said. Yeah. I mean, they play hard. Yeah. I mean, I give them that. They play hard, you know. But you guys, I think you guys had them. Boy, I thought you had them. Yeah, we had them. Yeah. We let the game slip. Yeah. Yeah. Do you think about it? Because when you hear that they're playing tomorrow for the Southern Regional Championship, I mean, does that play into your mind at all? Yeah. I feel like we could have been there, or if we would have won that game, we would be still playing in the playoffs somewhere. Right. Right. Yeah. That's tough. That's a tough feeling. You know, I've been really lucky. You know, Chris played for me. He was a starting power forward for me over 20 years ago on my first state championship team. And he played for me. I've been really blessed. I've won three state championships. And like the little intro says, you know, when you hear it coming back from commercial break, I'm the first coach to ever win a state championship in high school and junior college in this state. And, you know, but despite that success, I've also had a lot of disappointment. I mean, we probably could have won six more state championships. So I know how that feels too. I mean, I know how it feels like when you go, man, you know, we should have won that, you know, and you see the team that beat you and they go on and win it all. And you know, you're better than them. And Brentwood, our junior year. You know, yeah. I mean, it's just, it's hard. So I've been on both sides of that coin. I understand. I understand. I understand. I understand how you feel. And, you know, it's a tough feeling, and especially, you know, you'll see tomorrow how, if Westchester wins in particular. If Westchester loses, then, you know, maybe it doesn't hurt quite as much. But if they win and you know you could have beat them and they go on and, you know, do whatever they do, go all the way, then it's, that's even tougher. So you were one of the seniors on the team, Uchenna, and you had a great year. I watched you play. I watched you play two or three times this year. You had a great year. Tell me about Coach Hilliard, how he helped you, because he only coached you this year on varsity. I think he coached you maybe ninth grade year. JV, but he coached you this year on varsity. Tell me how he helped you. Beginning of the season, he said I needed to work on my jump shot because it wasn't really consistent. I didn't really shoot a lot. So for the season, we would go in the gym and just hit up a couple shots and work on getting into the paint and pulling up. And that helped you a lot this year, didn't it? Yeah, just add something to my game, because, I mean, you can't always drive. You're going to have to pull up sometimes. Yeah, no question. And the higher level you go, you'll find that more and more. You're not going to get into the paint as deep. Although you're pretty quick and you're pretty strong, I think you'll still be able to get in the paint, you know, even at the next level. But, you know, and I look forward to seeing Uchenna play in Division I, Coach. I don't know if that'll happen. Right now, but it'll certainly happen in another year if it doesn't happen right now. I know it will. You know, he's got the ability to do it and obviously the grades, too. But, you know, we want to see, I think I'm sure Coach Hilliard would agree with me, that we want to see you still expand your game a lot. One thing I told him, Coach, that I think will help him a lot is I told him this. I said, you know, right now, if you want to get better, you need to run three miles a day. And you need to run it with time. I'd like to see 21, 22 minute for three miles. And I'd like to see you push yourself because the harder you run, the better you're going to play. Have you started that three-mile run yet? I started not three miles, a mile every day, but not three miles. Okay. All right. At least we're honest. Okay. Now, you've got some close friends on the team, but probably none is closer than that guy sitting across from you. Yeah. Who's that guy? Reverend. Reverend. Yeah. Okay. Reverend. You just call him Rev? You call him Rev? Yeah. Okay. What should I call him, Rev or Reverend? The Rev or something. The Rev. You know, when I met him for the first time, I asked him, I said, so was your dad like a reverend or something? He said, no. He said, no. I said, so, I mean, so you're reverend? He said, yeah. I said, okay. I mean, I got it. Yeah. You know, I've coached a lot of players, T-Hill. You know that. I've coached almost 100 guys that have gone Division I, probably more than anybody in the country, more D1 players. I've never had a reverend. Never had a reverend. I've never had a reverend. Really? No, I've never had a reverend. I'm amazed. Like, never, like, of all those teams. Now, I've coached some reverends' kids that went D1. Okay. But they were like reverends, like pastors at a church. Yeah, yeah. But I've never had, like, a real reverend. Like, he's... He's a reverend. Yeah, yeah. I just figured at some point you would just have, you know, because I know you've had very religious players, and you've had sons of reverends. Yeah, but I've never had a reverend. Have you ever had any players become a reverend afterwards? You must have at some point. I've got six guys on LAPD. Okay. But I don't have any that are reverends. I've got a lawyer. I've got a doctor. I've got an airplane pilot. I've got a pilot for Delta Airlines. I've got a lot of stuff, but I don't have a reverend. Okay. So, anyway, and I've got one here in studio. Reverend, welcome to our show. Our first. Our first reverend. Thank you. You're very welcome. Okay, okay. Speak up. Okay, so, anyway, he's got a million-dollar smile, though, right, Scott? Okay. So, reverend, tell us about your senior season this year. Tell us about it. Yeah. So, I think we had a good season this year. Our goal was to win the L.A. City Championship, and we didn't accomplish our goal. But we did, you know, what's the word I'm looking for? Shock a lot. Yeah, we did shock a lot of people, you know, when we played Westchester. And everybody thought that, you know, that was going to be an easy game for them. But, yeah, I think we did shock a lot. And that was a good thing. Now, like Uchenna, you played for Coach Hilliard your freshman year, right, on JV? Yeah. So, you see, I'm a big fan of Coach Hilliard because it was just four years ago he was coaching JV. He left Narbonne. He went to Gardena. In two years, he won the City Championship in Gardena. His second year at Gardena, he won the Division II City Championship. Championship, which you almost won this year in Division I. He came back to Narbonne, coached you guys your senior year. So, he coached you your freshman and your senior year. Tell me and our listeners, what do you observe that was different about Coach between that window of time when you were a ninth grader and a twelfth grader? So, he coached you as a ninth grader, and he was a great coach. He was a great coach then. But now he coached you as a twelfth grader. Okay. What was different about Coach this second time around? That he wanted to win a championship, another one, because he won one at Gardena. Right. And he knew that we were a championship team, and that's why he came back to Narbonne, because he knew that we had the potential to do it. Okay. Okay. And did he coach any differently? Did he coach your twelfth grade year than he did your ninth grade year? Was he a better coach your twelfth grade year than your ninth grade year? I think he was. He was more hard on us and just more serious with us. He was more serious because— More demanding of you guys. Yeah, exactly. So, you know, trying to reach perfection. Yeah. Okay. You know, because that's the varsity level, and he was coaching us at a JV level. So it was a big difference. Big difference. Okay. That's a great point, Scott, is that it was a varsity this time around. Okay. Okay. So, what are your best memories, Reverend, of this year, your senior year? As you look back on your season, does one or two games that stand out as, like, the most compelling memories you have? I think the best memorable time of the season was when— We were in the San Pedro Tournament, and we won the championship of the San Pedro Tournament. And that was the first championship I ever won, like, in a tournament in my whole Narbonne career. So I think that'll have to be my most memorable moment. Okay. That's a great point. Let me ask the same question of Echenna. What's the most, as you look back over your senior year and the basketball year— And it was a great year. You guys had a great team, great record. You almost won the city title. But look back on it, and what are some of the great memories that stand out? I would say the San Pedro Tournament, too, because it is the first championship that we've ever won since we've been here. And that, like, as—like, we had, like, a full team then. Before, when the season started, we didn't have a full team. So we actually felt like we deserved it. We knew that we were probably the best team. We were the best team in the tournament, so we went out and got the championship. Nice. Nice. So that's, like, a great memory you have as you look back? Yeah. We were all happy after the game. You know, some pictures and stuff. Nice. Nice. Did you go somewhere and eat afterwards? No, I went straight home. You went straight home? Went straight home, went to bed? Yeah. Okay. But the good part about it is, like, if you guys remain friends or any of you guys remain friends after this, you know, 5, 10, 20 years down the line, you're going to remember these times. This is a good time in your guys' life. Because, like, I have friends. I have friends that I play with that were on Coach Miller's team. And we still talk about it to this day. Like, remember that time we went? Remember that time we did this? Remember that time Coach said this? I mean, it's going to be a good time for you guys. Yeah, that's a good point. Chris will always be in here, Reverend, telling stories about what I said 25 years ago. And what we did 25 years ago. And, you know, it's some out-of-state tournament. And, you know. I mean, he was a good. Chris was a good player. We had a good team. We won two CIF championships the two years he played for me. We won a state title. We were 58-5 in the two years he played for me. It's a pretty good record. 58-5 is a pretty good record. So, and we beat a lot of teams that were good teams. And so, we broke the CIF record for scoring in a season. I think we still hold it, actually. We broke the CIF record for scoring points in a game. Was that right? Well, we tied it. We tied it. How many points is the record? At the time we tied it, it was 144. Wow. We scored 144 in one game. If he would have let the seniors in, we would have scored almost two. Probably scored. If he would have let the seniors. That was our final game as seniors. And that's what we talk about. You know, my friends that were seniors with me that year. We talk about, man, if he would have let the seniors in, that record would have never been broken. You know what I mean? Shot clock. Nope. No shot clock. There was no shot clock then. Wow. And, but we pressed the whole game. See, my thing is this. I don't feel bad for the other team. I think I'm actually helping them. And you know this, Scott, because, I mean, it's my philosophy is that it's not my job to coach their team. It's my job to coach my team. It's not my job to tell my players, if this is my player, to tell him not to do good. Yeah. Okay. Because, because you're bad. It's not, it's not my job to worry about your bad. Yeah. It's my job to make him good. So we're going, we're going to play the way we play. And, and, you know, I guess maybe it'll help you learn. You need to play better if that's the case. And so, you know, we didn't, I mean, there was no shot clock. We just played. Yeah. And, um, I mean, we didn't run up the score. We didn't go into the game. Like we're trying to break a record. We're going to just play good basketball. Yeah. Yeah. And, and I mean, the result of that was in that game was 144 points. So, um, which ain't bad for a 32 minute game. Yeah. We had quite a few 100 point games that year. Yeah. We did have a lot of a hundred point games that year. They, they, these guys were a special team. These guys that I, that I had this, this group of seniors and, and I'm in contact with most of them today. And so I think that coach, coach, you, you know, you're, I consider you a young coach and a great coach. You're a great young coach and you're starting your career and you're, you're going to have a long career ahead of you because you are a great coach. And, you know, I've done this over 30 years and I've been a head coach for over 30 years. And so what I can tell you is this, is that the relationships that you're going to have with these young men, like 30 years from now, when Reverend has got a family of his own and he's successful and whatever you hear me talk about, I've got a player who was an airline pilot, a lawyer. I've got a, you know, six LAPD, you know, I got a doctor. I got, that's the thing that you're going to, it's going to mean the most to you more so than winning. Even if you win five city championships is going to mean what these young men do in their lives and how they, and how they come back and interact with you. And I feel like that's going to happen for you because you're building a program at Narbonne. It's not a team, it's a program. The team means it's a one-year thing. Now it's true. Uchenna and Reverend help you to establish the program because they're on your first team at Narbonne, the varsity team, but it's more than this team. It's a program. And I think you're going to see that as you progress in your fine career that's already fine and is going to be finer. Now, Reverend, tell me about the other seniors on your team this year, because I know it's the seniors are not just you and Uchenna. Tell me about the other seniors. Our other seniors are pretty good role players. We have a senior, even Jackson, he was a quarterback for Narbonne. He did really good for us this year. So he was a good athlete. Yeah. Great athlete. He grabbed rebounds, runs the floor, plays good defense and scores when he, when he needs to, when he's supposed to. Cause you guys got good football team over there too. Yeah, we do. And we also had another football player, Uchenna Nwoku. He's our other football player. Wait, you had another Uchenna? Yeah, we did. You had two Uchenna's? How did you do that? He's going to his favorite school next year. That's a lot of Uchenna's. USC. Right on. Oh, he's going to USC? With the number one quarterback. So you had two, you had two Uchenna's, Reverend? Yeah. How did you do that? Oh, well. That's unusual. Our families are from Nigeria. Oh, okay. Nigeria, Uchenna's a very common name. Oh, is that right? Yeah. Oh, is that right? I didn't know that. You're from Nigeria also? Yeah. Okay, cool. Yeah. There's something new every day. Yeah, you know, I've had a caller in the show, caller called on the show who's from Crenshaw High School, and his name is Wilson. And I think his family's from Nigeria too. Am I right about that? Yeah, you're right. Okay. So I had, there's this connection, Chris, in L.A. right now, these really good players. In fact, I'm going to see Wilson tomorrow. Wilson, if you're listening, I'm going to see you tomorrow, you said. So, you know that three-mile run we were talking about with Uchenna? Okay. I'm just playing. I'm just playing, Wilson. So, Olajuwon was from Nigeria, wasn't he? Yeah, he was. Yeah, but he was like, Reverend, was he like the best Nigerian player ever maybe? Oh, he's got to be. Kim Olajuwon? I think so. He was. Yeah. That was pretty easy. That was easy. That was like going, Yao Ming was the best Chinese player. Coach Hilliard's over here going, yeah, yeah. You know, it's not like going through the wooden award list. You know, I spent a year with Phil. I was with Phil his last year with the Lakers, and I spent that year there. It was a lot of fun. And I know who our best player was that year. His name was Kobe. You know, I mean, it was like, you know, right? Yeah. Okay. So Olajuwon was the best Nigerian, right? Yeah, he was. To play? Yeah. And you and Uchenna are second and third? I think so. Okay. We could be there. Okay. Not yet, but finna be there soon, right? Exactly. Okay. I got you. So your other seniors, now you mentioned the football player. Go ahead and talk about him again. Oh. Not Uchenna, the football player. The other one. The quarterback. The quarterback. Oh, no. The quarterback is even Jackson. Jackson. Jackson. Jackson. And I saw, when I saw the Crenshaw game, you know, I thought he was one of the keys to that game for you. You know why? Because he was doing a lot of dirty work. He was getting offensive rebounds. It was, you guys shot a good percentage from the floor that night, coach, over probably 60%. But the ones you missed, it wasn't a lot. Jackson over there, he'd come up with an offensive board about every third or fourth time. He'd come up with offensive boards. He'd come up with an offensive board and get it. And then he wouldn't do nothing stupid with it. He'd throw it out to Uchenna and reset it. And so, you know, you were getting extra possessions. Smart player. Quarterback. Yeah, quarterback. Smart player. Yeah. Now, is he a better coach? Is he a better football player or basketball player? I think he's pretty talented at both. I've been getting calls from college coaches wanting him to play basketball also. So I think they're looking at him as a dual player if he chooses. Okay, good. Okay, good. Okay. Okay. He sounds like they're acting like he just heard that for the first time. Okay, I got you. Okay. Okay. So, Reverend, tell me about the other seniors. The other seniors, yeah. Lieutenant Nwosu, he was also a big part of us, a part of our season. He also got rebounds and played hard, too. Right. He's a football player, and he was very, very big, athletic. And, yeah, he was a good part of our team. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. player very big very big guy he signed in san jose state and uh for football right yeah for football okay football and he was a very big guy too okay we use them for screens nice and guarding the big guys and pushing them out the post because he was very physical okay reminds me of when you had shaq's brother yeah i i had i had shaq's brother when he played for the lakers and and he was he was a big man big imposing man and uh he set some screens to push people out that out the paint you know he used to come to practice reverend or to school for that matter and practices shaq lived when he played for the lakers he lived in beverly hills in a big mansion and his brother who played for me for two years his brother was named jamal harrison if you know anything about shaquille is raised by a stepfather named sergeant harrison sergeant philip harrison and and his mother was lucille harrison so his mother was his mother and then he had a stepdad and then this was shaquille's half brother same mom but sergeant harrison's son and so we we had um shaq brought him out and he lived uh jamal lived with him in beverly hills and they would have a chauffeur you remember the chauffeur yeah drive him to rk drive him to like that bucky i think bucky he used to drive him to the park he used to drive him to the park to lacc every day in a in a limousine you know and drop him off and park it outside the museum park it outside of it drop him off and and then he would he would come back and pick him up after basketball practice it was really kind of funny so one day only happened one time in the two years the chauffeur couldn't come and pick him up so um one of our coaches had to drive him home oh really yeah and and and he drove him home and and they invited him in and shaquille had a full-time live-in cook a chef not a cook a chef yeah who was cooking every meal for him right okay i mean when you're making 20 million a year i mean you can afford a hundred thousand dollar chef right coach right yeah okay you almost need it yeah you know because it's your your body is your office yeah yeah so so he invited our coach in who came back and told me later he said man he said coach miller he said they got a game room and they get all these video games like it's an arcade oh man you know and they got this and that and they got a 11 foot high bear stuffed bear you know like a grizzly bear you know uh that's in the game room and um i said well okay did did you eat he says uh he says yeah i made me something and you know i sat in the kitchen and and i ate i said okay good you you had a good time he says yeah i had a great time i just would have wish i would have brought my swimming trunks i said well you know he made me something he made me a really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really time? He says, yeah, I had a great time. I just wish I would have brought my swimming trunks. I said, well, next time. Which coach was that? You know who it was. Was it Wendell? No. Doc? No. Keep going. Les? No. Rusty. Yes. Oh, man. Can you imagine Rusty in Shaq's pool? They'd be like, oh, you might like the pond in the front. Yeah. Can you imagine Rusty in Shaq's pool? No. Okay. So, Rusty was about 400 pounds. I don't think Shaq would like seeing him in his pool in swimming trunks. Red-haired, giant, bearded dude walking around. Why would he even need swim trunks? He only walked around in gym shorts. You know? Was there like a difference in his shorts? Oh, well. I don't know. Anyway, so, you had a big guy who set screens. He's going to San Jose State to play football. Yeah. Okay. Now, do you have any guys that have Division I basketball scholarships yet? Um, not yet, but we're still working on it. You're still working on it? Okay. Good. Okay. And we're thinking maybe you, right? Yeah. I think you're in. You're in, Jenna. Okay. Well, I think you have Division I ability. So, we have to see what happens. You have the grades, I know. So, we have to see what happens. We'll know soon, right? Yeah, we'll know soon. We'll know soon. And hopefully you'll get a great opportunity. But if you don't, always remember, there's another road to travel, okay? There's more than one freeway in L.A. And they all get you to the same place. You just gotta sometimes take a different route. Okay? Sometimes the freeway is closed at the moment. The five freeways closed. They have construction. And you gotta take a detour. And you take a little detour and you get on the 405 instead. And it gets you where you want to go. It may take a little bit longer, but it gets you where you want to go. Okay? So, can we remember that? Uchenna? Reverend, remember that? So, don't give up is what I'm saying. If things don't break for you exactly the way you want to right at this moment, they will. The thing is, you gotta persevere and you gotta keep your dream alive and keep fighting it. Okay. Let's take a short break. When we come back, we'll have a little bit more Norbon basketball and we'll talk a little bit with some of these other guys here in studio. Here we go, Jeremy. Take a break. Full focus. We got a topic to discuss. High school, prep school, small colleges, yeah. Another special guest today. Listen up. It might get a little hectic from the stuff we discuss. I'm ready. Where you ready? Is that right? Yeah. Let's go. Hey, we're back. We're live. We're on the air. And I've got back in here. A bunch of Narbonne guys here. I got the Gauchos in the house. But I got Jamal Hicks back over here. He's going to do a shout out on his Instagram, I think. What do you got? All right. Follow me on Instagram. Pavi underscore Jamal. P-A-V-I underscore J-A-M-A-L. And shout out to the Baa Baa fam. Baa Baa Red. B-A-B-A-R-E-F. And Baa Baa Chena. B-A-B-A-C-H-E-N-N-A. OK. So we just got all the Instagram. We got a Chena, Reverend, and you on that? Yeah. And one more. One more. Eben Jackson, Long Live Jay. L-O-N-G-L-I-V-E-J-A-Y. Two Es. Two Es. So this is all Instagram? Is that what this is? Yup. OK. So now, you know, we're on iTunes. I guess we're not on Instagram, right, Scott? We're on iTunes, right? Our show? Yeah. Instagram is photography. OK. It's like pictures. OK. So we're on iTunes. Yeah. And we're on TV. We're on the YouTube. Station. On the internet. You're making yourself sound really old. Oh. When I say TV? Yeah, yeah. I am really old. I'm really old. I'm older than everyone in here. I'm really old. That TV thing, that thing that kind of looks like a television, but it has a keyboard in front of it. OK, I got you. Aren't there some rappers on iTunes and YouTube? Yup, yup. Who? Pretty much all of them. All of them. So we're just like the rappers. Then, right? Yup. Just like Drake. So, so, so. JT. We're just like Drake. Yup. Just like Drake, Coach. OK, nice. Just like Jay-Z and Lil' Weezy. OK. All right. I got you. I got you. I got a call. Caller, you're on the air. Go ahead. Caller, go ahead. Caller, you're on the air. Jeremy, do we have a call? Sounds like a defibrillator. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You can hear him breathing. Maybe this is the girl who has a crush on Jamal. I'm going to drop the call. If you want to call in and you don't want to just breathe, you want to talk 1-800-893-9562. They fell asleep while they were holding. 1-800-893-9562. How about that? 1-800-893-9562. Hey reverend, what are your goals for the future in basketball? Most definitely basketball. My goals for the future in basketball? Right now, my goal right now is just to get a Division I scholarship and get a good education. And after college is over, I want to still play basketball professionally, you know, overseas or something, anything that pays for basketball. Nice. That's a great goal. Do you have a Nigerian passport? I don't think so. You need to get one. Coach Miller has some – Coach Miller's had like 37 guys play professionally overseas. He knows how to do this. You need to get a Nigerian passport. Were you born there? No, I was born here. Okay. But your parents are Nigerian, right? Yeah. You can get one. You need to get a Nigerian passport. You might be able to play for their national team. Because it changes. It changes where you can play and how much you can make. It changes a lot. It means a lot. Like four years, five years from now, it's going to make the difference between 30,000 and 130,000 for doing the same thing. So it's important to go ahead and get it now. Do you have a Nigerian passport? Yeah, I do. Okay. So you're already ready to go for that, huh? Yeah. That's important. That's important. So, okay. Uchenna, what are your goals for the future in basketball? Same like Reverend's, get a Division I scholarship and re-education. I mean, I would want to play after college, but I mean, if I don't, probably do something in accounting. Okay. Gotcha. I like that. Good. How's your math? It's hard right now, but I still have a love for it. What math class are you in your senior year? AP Stats. Oh, AP Stats. No problem. Stats was my hardest class. That was the one where I had to let go. I had to, like, super beg my professor, because I already got into UCLA, pending passing statistics. Yeah. Gotcha. And that was close. See, mine was the opposite. I took statistics to keep from taking regular math classes in college. That was the only C I was ever grateful to get. And I was grateful to get it. Nice. Nice. Yeah, but you know what? I think that it's admirable that Uchenna's taken a class like that. AP Stats, when, you know, I would say probably less than 5% of the LA guys, you know, the kids, the seniors in high school are taking a class like that. That's the class that prevents most people transferring to the UC level, is the statistics. You know, college algebra. Yeah. They can't get past that, and they just give up. Gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. Well, you're not going to give up, and you're going to get past that, right? You're going to pass that. You're going to pass that class. Yeah, I plan to. You plan to. Yeah, and you pass it, you won't even have to take it in college. Yeah, because it's AP. Yeah. So you want to pass that, get that out of the way. Okay, so, Reverend, let me ask you a question. Do you ever think about, and this is my last question for you guys, do you think that, like, you and Uchenna want to play? I know you guys have been playing together since you were, like, what, junior high? Even younger than that. Younger than that. Do you think, like, you guys want to play together next year? Is that something that... You guys talk about it all? Yeah, we talk about it. That would be a big plus, playing with my teammate who I've been playing with my whole life, because we already know what each other can do and how we both play. So it would be very good if we both play at the same place. That's a great idea. I have an idea, too, how that can happen. I have a really good idea, but we won't talk about it right now on the air. But I got a really good idea how that can happen. And not too far... You won't have to go too far from home, either. But, you know, we'll... I tell you, these guys are Division I players, Scott. You know, Scott has been part of my program a long time, and he's seen, you know, the almost 100 guys I put in Division I. And these guys are Division I players. And, you know, I think a lot of coaches are missing the boat right now because Coach Hilliard and I both believe they're Division I players. A lot of coaches are missing the boat. They're... Too many coaches, Chris, nowadays, they look at a player, and they say... They find what he can't do... Instead of finding what he can do. Instead of seeing what he can do. And that was something we talked about with a coach from Cal State Fullerton a couple weeks ago, that, you know, a lot of the kids in the inner city don't get recruited because the coaches are... I mean, the kid is good, but they're, like, trying to find fault with him instead of trying to find what's good with him. It's like, why are you trying to down the kid? I mean, he's getting good grades. He's doing well on the court. Yeah. But you're still trying to find something bad in him instead of saying, wow, he's getting good grades. He's doing what he's supposed to do. He's not getting in trouble. He's doing good on the court. Instead of doing that, you're just trying to find... nitpicking, you know... Right. Micro... Just micro him and find something wrong with him. And that's backwards. That's crazy. And you know what? But that's what coaches do. And so, you know, we had... Cal State Fullerton had a coach in here who I recruited out of high school, by the way. And I coached him. And he... We had him in here, and the next night, they beat Long Beach State. They upset Long Beach State. So, remember, I told you about that winning streak we had going until Westchester blew it. But they, you know, they went out and beat Long Beach State. So I'm telling you, next year, don't play Narbonne the first game of the year because if you do, you're going to lose for sure. So, Reverend, I tell you what. I think you and Uchenna... Uchenna are both Division I players. I know, Coach, you agree with me. Definitely. And we feel like they've been overlooked a little bit. And, you know, Coach is establishing, Scott, a program at Narbonne that, you know, five years from now, ten years from now, these guys won't be overlooked because the program will be established. But right now, he is establishing it. And so, you know, like you said earlier, Uchenna, I mean, you said Westchester didn't even really know about you guys or hear about you guys. And so the thing is, is that, you know, that's kind of a problem a little bit right now, but it's going to change. And you guys have helped to change that already. And, you know, like I said earlier, and I want you guys to be positive about this, you know, everything happens for a reason. And if you don't get in Division I right now, you will. So you're not going to give up your dream and you're not going to, you know, give up the idea of a free education and playing basketball because... Because it's going to happen. Right. One thing I like to say, Mike, yeah, when you look at these two, you got to look at the competition that they played against. And like I said, we played it, we started off in the Redondo tournament, the first game. I think Compton has three Division I guys and Uchenna had 35 points. Right. So, and their point guard is going to Loyola Marymount. Right. And then you look at Reverend, he went to the free throw line against Westchester 19 times. One of the best defensive teams in the city. Right. So how do you go to the line 19 times? That means somebody out there is having trouble guarding. You have to go to the line 19 times. That's a great stat. So I just think the coaches are recognizing what their talent level is. And a lot of coaches missed out. You know, they don't send their assistant coaches to the games. I know head coaches, you know, I know you're in the tournament and different things are going on with the conference tournaments and different things, but you got to send somebody out to watch the talent because the talent is there. And like coach was saying earlier, they got to recognize that and don't nitpick and see what the guys aren't doing, but look at the talent that's there and how will it fit in your system? As a college coach. Those are major stat lines that you're throwing down too. I mean, you know, 35, you know, against Compton, 19 free throws against Westchester. I mean, that would stand out just doing a quick glance at the box. I mean, that's all, that's like more than Carl Malone would get in the game. And that's against Westchester. Exactly. That's like Michael Jordan, you know, playing us like the referee every time. Anytime that guy gets tested, he's getting to the basket. He's making big boy moves once at the basket. Exactly. He's getting points and it's taking players out of the game. And I mean, he's doing it against Elijah Stewart, who's, you know, signed with Loyola Marymount. He's one of the best players in the city. And I mean, so he went through Westchester, basically their whole lineup. Everybody tried to guard him. So, yeah. I mean, I just think coaches got to recognize the talent. Yeah. And it's funny because, you know, I run into that a lot because I see a lot of high school games and I'm trying to help guys get into division one and what I'm doing now at the prep school thing, which, you know, I'm a volunteer. I do this for free at the coaching. And I mean, at one time, I was the highest paid junior college coach in the nation. And, you know, deservedly so because of what we did. But, you know, now I do this for free just to help people. It's my way of giving back. And I see a lot of high school games and there's nobody better than Reverend and Chena. I agree. But they're not, I just want them to know and you to know, Coach, they're not the only ones in that boat. There's other great players in the city, you know, that I'm now mentoring and working with. You know, the young man at Washington, he's been working out with me, Brandon. Mm-hmm. Good kid. And 6'8", you know. I mean, you know, you played against him. I mean, he can play. He can play. Okay. And I've got a couple of Westchester guys. No one's recruiting. Elijah Stewart got signed. You're right. Mm-hmm. But they got other good players. And you're not the only one, Reverend, you know, Chena, you're not the only one that are really good players that are being overlooked. And it's exactly what Chris said. And what you said, Coach, it's like people are looking at what they can't do instead of what they can do. Mm-hmm. But that changes, too. That changes. So let's just be positive. And, you know, you all still might get a scholarship now. And if you do, then that's good. And if you don't, it's not over. Mm-hmm. And that's the important thing to know. And that's a good thing that, you know, hopefully with a couple of these coaches like, you know, Compton is sending the kid to Loyola Marymount. The coach over at Cal State, you know, you start getting some of these coaches in that have ties with Los Angeles, with the inner city, that can start recruiting these kids. Because, I mean, you know, they need a chance, too. You know what I mean? And, you know, everybody here that's played basketball, I mean, I don't know, Scott, but everybody here that's played basketball, all you need is a chance. You know what I mean? Once you get that chance, you know, who knows what you could do with it. But you just need that chance. You know what I mean? And the key thing is that's why our show is sponsoring the L.A. Classic. Which will be held April 5th at East L.A. College. It's going to be a great event to honor and recognize. And it's only for L.A. City players. It's not for CIF players because they get enough recognition. When we had our meeting and we talked with the people here, and Chris and I and others, it's like we want to recognize and honor people like Uchenna and Reverend. And I want to say that they've both been selected to play. They both made the 12-man squad for the South region. And with some other good players. And Coach Hilliard has been selected to coach the team. Okay. And so it's going to be a lot of Narbonne representation there. And, you know, we want to recognize and honor the L.A. City section players like these guys because they're not getting enough of that. And we want to have that game broadcast out. And we want to have Division I coaches see that game. Okay. So let's hope that you all play really good in that game. Hey, let's take one more call. Then we'll take a quick break, bring in another couple Narbonne guys. Caller, you're on the air. Hello? Caller, you're on the air. Go ahead. Yeah, this is a question for Jamal, Reverend, Uchenna. What was your favorite highlight play of the past season and why? Okay, Reverend, you want to take that first because you started smiling? My favorite highlight play of the season was when we had a game against King's Roof at King's Roof. Oh. Uchenna stole the ball and it was a fast break and then he passed it to me and then I dunked over a defender. Okay. You dunked on someone, Reverend? I dunked on someone. Okay. Posterized? Yeah. Uchenna, do you remember that play? Yeah. I passed the bottle. Okay. And did you like that dunk? Yeah, I was kind of hyped after it. You were kind of hyped? The crowd was, too. Okay, I got you. I got you. Okay, Jamal. Jamal, do you have a comment on your favorite play? Come on in here because the caller asked about you, Uchenna, and Reverend. Well, my favorite play was against Peninsula. And I was hitting three after three. And then it was like, how many seconds left? Four seconds left? Three. Three seconds left. Three seconds left. And we took off the ball under their basket and Uchenna went all the way down the court and hit a buzzer to be a delay up. Nice. And went to overtime one by one point. Against Peninsula? Wow. Yeah. Nice. They beat us the first time when I did play. Okay. And I can beat them. Nice. And they're a quality team. That's a good win. That's a good win. Okay, well, caller, thank you for that call. That's a great question. We appreciate the call. No problem. Okay. All right. Let's take a short break, Jeremy. We'll come back with a couple more Narbonne guys. Hey, this is Coach Miller. I'm excited to tell you about my new instructional videos that are on DVDs. They're produced and distributed by Scoreboard Media out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Scoreboard Media is a great outfit. They also publish books on recruiting and basketball. But what I want to tell you about is to make sure you get a chance to see my post-play DVDs. If you want to become a better post-player, score more in the post, and be more effective for your team, why not check out my DVDs? These great instructional videos will really help improve your game. Scoreboard Media is the place to get them at. Look, it's time out with Coach Miller. 14 straight conference championships. We winners. It don't stop from the bottom to the ceiling. Because all I know is win and we winning. Full focus, we got a topic to discuss. High school, prep school, small colleges, yup. Another special guest today. Listen up. It might get a little hectic from the stuff we discuss. But we're here to help you. We're here to help you. We're here to help you. This is Coach Miller from Time Out with Coach Miller. I'm here excited to tell you about Medicus Graphics Center located in Los Angeles, California. That's the winner's quote. I'ma just keep doing me. Hear the crowd as they cheer. 18 out of 19 coach of the year. Time out with coach Miller. Listen clear. Two times a week. Listen to me on the air. Over 30 wins. It was for four straight years. First to win. Saved my high school and college career. Over 30 wins. It was for four straight years. First to win. Saved my high school and college career. Hey we're back Scott. We're live. We're on the air. We are at Skid Row Studios. Somewhere near Skid Row. You know when I was driving down here I had a friend with me and he was actually driving. He said we're going kind of near Skid Row aren't we? And I said well we're Skid Row kind of adjacent. Yep yep. But we're really more jewelry district adjacent. Yep yep. The rats down here have bling. Yeah they're very very well groomed rats. Yeah some gold and silver. Yeah they got nice. They wear cashmere. Nice nice. Well listen it's exciting to have Narbonne in the house. Yep yep. And what a great year they had. Coach. Hilliard's first year as the head coach at Narbonne. What was your final record? 24 and 10. 23 and 10 I believe. When we ended. Yeah. What a great year. Still not happy. You wanted to do more. Still not happy. Yeah you wanted to do more. And I understand. And believe me if anyone understands I understand. Right. And but you know you're one of the young great coaches. You're a rising star in the profession. And you're working hard. You're taking. One thing I like about what you do is you you're serious. And I'm serious. I appreciate that and other people that are serious because a lot of coaches are not serious. And you're serious about it. And you prepare well. And you guys you just came up just a little tiny bit short to Westchester. And a little tiny tiny bit short to Long Beach Poly. Right yeah that's what hurts. Because like I said we set the goal at the beginning of the season. And we're not going to be able to get to the end of the year. And the way we lost at the end of the year. That's what really hurts. Especially when the coaches after the game say we should have won. Yeah. Both coaches said after the game that we should have won. So yeah that's what hurts the most when you know you you feel like you still should be playing. So right as long as somebody else is playing I'm still not happy. Right. I understand. I understand. So one reason why you guys had a good year was this guy sitting over here to your right. Why don't you introduce him coach. This is Evan Jackson. He's a football quarterback. Great offensive rebounder. Shot blocker. Super athlete. One of my favorite players on the team. Just ball of energy. Came out and played hard every game. Right. Just to Chris I'll tell you. I talked about him earlier when I went and saw them play in the playoffs against Crenshaw. I mean he was getting offensive rebounds like crazy. I mean just out of nowhere. And you know not the biggest guy on the court. But I mean just getting offense. And he did the same thing as Scott. How many offensive rebounds you average. I want to say about ten a game. OK. I mean a football player he ain't scared to go in and serve. Not at all. Not at all. I love all the contact. Offensive rebounds aren't about size anyhow. It's about effort. Yeah. You don't want it. You can ask Dennis Rodman that story. Right Scott. Yeah. It's all about effort. Exactly. You know. And you know figuring out where the ball's going to go. Yeah. Yeah. So. So do you do you like football more than basketball? I get asked that question a lot and you know it's kind of hard to decide because um football like I've always played it you know I trained the most in that but you know I come out and play basketball and it's just so much fun you know running up and down the court uh you know just get involved with everybody but um you know it's definitely a neck and neck you know if something open ups in basketball I'd most definitely take it. Okay okay so you're a senior this year? Yes I am a senior this year. Yeah and so are you going you're going to school next year for football right? I'm going to school next year for football I'll be at uh El Camino College next year. Okay okay so so so you're you've decided you're gonna go football then not basketball? Um well basically my plan was uh next year for football you know if nothing opens up El Camino they have a basketball team too so yeah might as well keep going and you know just keep going from there you know until I can you know stop playing but initially my goal is in college to play both sports. Okay okay well El Camino has a has a great football team and great football tradition. Yeah. And a really lousy basketball team they're one of the worst in the state so so it's a little bit of a difference there. Exactly. Okay so um that might help them out because their football team is so good you know I mean they'll probably be begging them to come out for basketball. Yeah but um their basketball team Chris is really bad. Maybe they should use the Narbonne approach and take some three or four football players on the court. Yeah yeah that's always a good idea so so you know but but I've heard that you're really good in football. I've heard you're really good in football. I guess you can say that. Yeah and I saw you playing football I didn't I mean now that you say who you are now because I've seen a couple of Narbonne games on TV this year so yeah. We have. I do know you're good. Yeah so I mean I'm I'm I wouldn't say I'm you know I'm not gonna put myself up or anything you know I just go out and you know try to play like I do in basketball you know just come out each game and you know do your best I can do. Right I got you I got you okay well that's good that's good to know. Uh coach what what did uh what did Evan do? What did he bring to the team more than anything else? Uh just energy I just thought he brought energy every game and that you know that's something that our team needed especially it's kind of hard for coaches when we have to reteach everything but when the football players like their season ended they went to the championship game against Crenshaw so they didn't come in until we were already maybe what two tournament two or three tournaments already played so. Right. You had to start all over reteach everything so that's one of the things we started playing our best until towards the end of the season when all those guys got acclimated from football. But uh EJ's energy was just every game he brought energy. Yeah that's a great thing and I saw that when I when I watched you guys play. Okay so uh coach uh introduce the young man to my left. This young man to your left he's the only person in here besides me and coach Moore with one of these championship rings on championship point guard I could say that our best offensive player did not play this year. Is that right? Our best offensive player did not play this year and that's including Rev and Chitta. Yeah. And they standing right here so I'm saying that in front of everybody here. Our best offensive player did not play this year. Is that right? Yes. Okay coach. That's right. Coach, coach Moore. They can say what they want to say but listen to what coach is saying. Okay coach, coach Moore was saying something like you know when we when we get when we get this this this uh super guy on the air point guard coach Moore wanted to say something. Coach Moore what do you got? I just want to say that uh Shane Carney. Uh said an example that I've never seen in all my years of coaching his uh dedication to uh coach Shillard and the remain in this program and his sacrifice for one year uh is unparalleled and uh I'm behind this kid 100% and we're committed to his uh play next year and uh Shane Carney will get a D1 scholarship. He will be CIF division one. Point guard. Player of the year. He will be the number one point guard in the state of California next year. Is that right? Yes sir. Is that right? Shane are you are you that good? Um I don't like to uh brag about my talents or nothing. I just work hard in the gym and I put in work. Okay. Let me ask let me ask Jamal. Jamal is is Shane that good? That boy nice. Me and him next week. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Y'all gonna hear y'all gonna hear some things next year. Okay. Okay. Okay. So so so Narbonne's not done. This wasn't a one-year deal Jamal. No. No. We got two more years three more years of this. Oh okay. Okay. I got you. So so coach Hilliard Shane played at Gardena. Mm-hmm. And he started right? Yes. As a sophomore. Sophomore second team all league. Right. He started at Gardena. Mm-hmm. So then he came over to Narbonne and and he started at the second team. Mm-hmm. And he started at the second team. Mm-hmm. So he started at the second team. And and and he didn't play this year. Wasn't able to play this year. Okay. But he's good for next year. Good to go for next year. Okay. Are you ready Shane? Definitely. Are you excited? Yes. Okay. All right. Are you ready to go then? Yes. Okay. How old are you now? 16. 16. So you're still young. Yeah. When's your birthday? August 11. Okay. So you're gonna turn 17 in all in the summer. Yeah. You're gonna be a senior next year. Yes. So when you finally graduate from high school. You're still gonna be 17. Yes. So you're gonna be young. Still. Yeah. Young and good. Young and good. Okay. So see when you're young and good. What you do is you go to prep school. Just like Carmelo Anthony did. Okay. You when you're young and good you go you go to prep school. Because you want to be you don't want to be at a disadvantage age wise. You don't want to be competing against 24 year olds at Duke. When you're only 17. You know you want to at least be you know another year older and bigger and stronger. So so I guess I guess that means in this top 24 game and I have the list here. I guess if he had played this year. He would definitely be okay. He would definitely be. Okay. So this is a good time to read our top 24 underclassmen from Garfield High School. Abel Montgomery from Huntington Park. Chris Tovar from Marshall. Abel Andrade from Southgate. Cameron Ybarra from Lasus. Evan Beatty. You seen Evan Beatty play? A freshman? A freshman. Yeah. Yeah. About 6'7"? Yeah. About 250? Gonna be real good. Real good. He might want to check into Narbonne if he finds out about Jamal. Manas is my friend. I'm sure you don't want to hear that. Okay. Okay. I'm just playing. But but but from Lasus, Evan Beatty. From Fairfax, Lindsey Drew and Donald Gibson. From Dorsey, John Staggers. From Manual Arts, Ceni Angle. From View Park, Chance Comanche and Darius Henderson. From Palisades, Joseph Robinson. From Fremont, Miles McLin. From Chatsworth, Travis Patrick. From Reseda, Nareg Atamian. From North Hollywood, Alex Walker and Shawn Fernandez. From Granada Hills, Jason Horenci. From Washington, Jalen Gilmore and Kahari White. They're good players now. They play on my travel board team. Huh? They play on my travel board team. Okay. From Narbonne, Jamal Hicks. From Central City Valley, Joel Finney. From Hollywood High, Reese Rothenberg. From Valley Academy, Kyle Lord. From Rancho Dominguez Prep, Keith Fisher. He's a big, big man. And from Sylmar High School, Deon Bright. And there are a few others that the committee has extended, you know, invitations to that they're still, West Chester's got a couple guys they still play in. And the coach asked not to announce them yet, which we respect. And the coaches for the team are Nolan and Johnson from Washington High School and Scott Switella from Chatsworth. So that's our top 24 underclassmen game. And it's exciting that we have Jamal Hicks in that game. And it would have been more exciting if we would have had you in that game, too. Yeah. I'm sure the players on the list is going to be able to play because they deserve it. Oh, yeah. They deserve it. They deserve it. But from what coaches are saying, they deserve it. Yeah. And what your coaches are saying, what your coaches are saying, you deserve it, too. So I guess maybe next year you have something to look forward to. Oh, yeah. One thing about Shane, I can say, like you talked about earlier, putting up shots and just working hard. He's definitely one of the hardest workers. I mean, he leaves our practice and goes and practice more, you know, does his homework. So he eats, sleeps, everything is basketball. So one thing I can say about him is work ethic is the best. Nice. That's a really good thing to know. Okay. We've got a couple calls. Caller, you're on the air. Go ahead. Caller, go ahead. Okay. Jeremy, we lost that call. Bump up the next call. Go ahead and bump them up. Caller, go ahead. You're on the air. Having technical problems here. I had all these calls lined up here. You see when they go red. There we got one right there. Caller, you're on the air. You're on the air. You're on the air. We got one right there. Caller, you're on the air. Hi, I have a question for your mom. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Ladies' night. This is ladies' night. What's your question, sweetheart? Who does he see himself competing against next year? Okay. I thought you was going to ask who he's taking to the prom. Next year, I want to play Redondo. Hold on. I can see competing with Leland Green, Elijah. That's my boy right there. Yeah, I would grow with them. And, of course, Washington. Kari White, Jalen Gilmore, all them. And I want to get back at Westchester, too. I want to play them so bad. I couldn't take that L. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, you know what? You're pretty competitive. That's what I'm getting from Jamal. Jamal's pretty competitive, huh, Coach? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. He's a football player, too. Oh, is he a football player, too? Football player, too. Oh, does he hit? Safety. Oh, he hits. He's a safety. He likes to hit. He hits, then. Okay. I like that. I like that. Okay. Well, do you have another question for Coach Hilliard, or is that it? No, that's about it. Okay. Just for Jamal. Okay. Do you want his phone number, too? No, it's okay. Okay. All right, then. Very good. Thank you for calling out. And where can listeners write in if they want to get pictures of Jamal sent? I'll get a picture of them. I'll have to follow his Instagram account. All you need to do is go on the Skid Row Studios YouTube station and type in Time Out with Coach Miller. You can see Jamal. You can see him all you want. He's right there. You want to promote your Facebook page? I do all that. Okay. Follow me on Twitter, FlyLiveYoung. Facebook, JamalFlyLiveHicks. Instagram, PogGunScoreJamal. Instagram, PogGunScoreJamal. Instagram, PogGunScoreJamal. Instagram, PogGunScoreJamal. Instagram, PogGunScoreJamal. That's it, man. Okay. No voice. I know. I've got another call. Caller, you're on the air. I've got another call. Caller, you're on the air. Turn your radio down. What was the most school that was competitive? Turn your volume down. Turn your radio down. That was competitive for you guys. Say that again. That was competitive for you guys. Wait a minute. Caller, turn your radio down. What was the most school that was competitive for you guys? Coach, what was the most school? What was the most competitive school? Which school was the most competitive? We had a lot of competitive schools. Westchester, very competitive. Long Beach Poly was competitive. And earlier in the year, Compton was definitely one of the most competitive teams we played against. Nice. You guys played a good schedule. Oh, yeah. Okay, good. I got another call. Caller, you're on the air. Yeah. Go ahead. Yeah, this is Coach Hader. Okay. Yeah. Hillard, I'm going to get you, Hillard. I'm going to get you, Hillard. What school is he from, Coach Hillard? That's the famous Coach Moore doing one of his famous pranks. That's why it's Coach Hader. They all try to get me, so that's Coach Moore doing one of his Coach Moore pranks. All the kids know Coach Moore. Coach Moore is the jokester out of the team. Right here. I already know. It's Coach Moore. Coach Moore. Okay, I got you. Okay, well, listen, we've had a great time having you guys in studio tonight. And we're going to read our selections now. And we've already kind of, you know, given the Narbonne guys. But let's read our selections for the teams. And let's get, actually, what I'd like to do. Let me get Reverend back over here. Let me get Reverend back over here. Is Uchenna still here? Let me get Uchenna over here next to Coach. And I want their reactions to some of these players that, at least the ones they're playing against or with, if they know them or don't know them. So let me just get Uchenna back over here next to Coach. And we'll get, go ahead and mic up. And Scott. And Chris are going to read the selections for the L.A. Classic, the senior game. So I just want to kind of get those out there. So go ahead, Chris. You want to start us off? Yeah. One of the games is the South Bay region versus the Valley region. For the South Bay region, we have from Fremont High School, Craig Moody and Frank Bitton. From Fort Shea, we have Kobe Martinez. From Jordan High School, we have David Lynch. From Locke High School, we have Mike Shavers. From Narbonne, who's in the house tonight, we have Reverend Maduakor. Maduakor. Good thing he's here. And Uchenna Okiname. Okiname. Okay. Thank you very much. From New Designs Charter, we have Brandon Nevels. From New Millennium, we have Ian Jefferson Roberts. From Rancho Dominguez, we have William Brooks and Keon Johnson. From San Pedro, we have Quincy Thomas. And from Washington High, who was just here a couple weeks ago, we have Brandon Crawford. The coaches for the South Bay region will be Coach Hilliard. Nice. From Narbonne, and John Bibich from San Pedro. John Bobich. John Bobich. And so we get a big hand. Right. We get a big hand for the South Bay. South Bay. Or South Region team. And we're excited. We get a lot of representation for Narbonne on that team. And that game is April 5th. And the South Bay or the South Region versus the Valley is the first game April 5th. It's held East LA College. And that's a Saturday. And I believe the game is at 3.30. So if you're listening and you want to see. Narbonne represented really, really well. You can see them play at 3.30 at East LA College April 5th. Okay. That's going to be a big event. So we've got Reverend Unachena representing Narbonne. Okay. And they're going to play against the Valley team. Scott, who does the Valley team have? The Valley region is represented from Chatsworth, Michael Morrissey. From Cleveland, Shaq Russell. From El Camino Real, Evan Wardlow, Julian Richardson. Maliki Haynes, Kelton Conway. From Grant, Delashawn Jackson. From Monroe, Isaiah Bryant. From Reseda, Kenny Brooks. From Silmar, Devinair Deruso. Chance Cole, Malcolm Wadlow. From Taft, Chris Sandifer. From Pauly, Sal Gonzalez. From Valley Academy, Sonny Singh. And from Verdugo Hills, Albert Marmal and Adrian Gonzalez. The coaches are... They're Dave Goosen, Valley Academy, and Chan Smith from Arleta. And congratulations to all you all on the Valley region. I also have the East region. Hold on, Scott. Hold on, Scott. Hold on, Scott. We get a little applause. We get a little... We're not... We're good right now. We're good right now. So we get a little shout out. Special congratulations to Coach Goosen. We've had him in studio before. Yep. Right. And Coach Chan Smith. You know Coach Chan Smith. He did Arleta. Young coach. Doing a great job. He's building a program. I think it's his first or second year. So it's a big honor for him. And so my question, Reverend, let's talk about... We just don't have... We don't have a lot of time. Let's talk about your team, the South team. You know most of those guys on the team that you and Uchenna are on. I mean, you know a lot of them anyway. Yeah. What do you think of them? I think they're all good players. And I think that team that we have... Definitely be the Valley. Okay. Ooh. Ooh. This is a challenge here. This is a clear challenge. Uchenna, do you... Of the players that you're playing with, you can refresh those names. If Chris needs to show you, he can. But, you know, who stands out? Who stands out on your team? I know a couple. I know Mike from Locke. I played with him over the summer. I know Jian from Newark. I know Millennium. I used to play with him when I was younger. And I know Will and Kian. Also, I know Quincy. I played with Quincy last summer, too. Yeah. Travel ball. Quincy's a talented player at San Pedro. I really like him. Good player. Yeah, good player. Left-handed, yeah. Yeah, good player. So, it's a good team. That South team's a good team. So, okay. We're going to go with the East and the West side teams here in a minute. And I'll see if you guys know any of these players. I know that you didn't play with... Most of these guys, necessarily. But you still may know them and you may have competed against them. Chris, what team do you have? For the West region, the West side of the city section. From Crenshaw Cougars, we have Manny Hoggart and Raymond Brown. From Dorsey, we have Ali Muhammad. From the Fairfax Lions, we have Olesa Nowichie and Sage Woodruff. I've seen him play. He's really good. From Manual Arts. We have Khalil Flowers. From Palisades, we have Aaron Johnson, who's really good. I saw him play, too. From University High, we have Darnell Bettis and CJ Sonata. From Venice High School, we have Jason Ball. From Laces, we have Dean Tanioka. From View Park Prep Academy, we have Jason Carter. And from the Westchester Commons, we have Cameron Young, Elijah Stewart, and Miles Stewart. The coaches for the West side would be Ron Ford from Manual Arts. Benjamin Chinua from Laces. Nice, nice, nice. And Coach, you mentioned that you're friends with Coach Chinua, right? Yes. You know him. He did a... I want to give him a special applause and a special shout out. Yeah. He did a great job this year. Great job. Great job, Coach. I saw him play twice and upset teams that were higher than them in the semifinals and the finals. And I was really impressed with what he did. He did a great job. Great job this year. Yeah. So, they're playing... East side region. Scott, who's on the East side team? East side's represented by Cesar Renteria from Bell. Joshua Gaten from Central City Value. Siobhan Gaines from Eagle Rock. Robert Garcia from Franklin. Abel Montgomery from Garfield. Val Gazeroff and Kyle Hansen from Hollywood. Jerry Pena and Kevin Corona from Huntington Park. Noah... Noah Clayton from Marshall. Gerardo Berrigan from Mendez. Johnny Gomez from Roosevelt. David Cox from Roybal. Gerardo Zavala from Southgate. And the coaches are Chris Dunbar from Eagle Rock and Deion Johnson from Hollywood. Let's hear it for East side region. Nice. Nice. I'm going on a limb and say I think the West side is going to get that game. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. No. I'm throwing down a golly right now. No. No. No. Okay. Okay. All right. All right. I'm just going to go out on a limb. All right. Uchenna, we don't have a lot of time left. Do you know any of these guys that have been selected for the other teams? Um... You probably know at least some of the Westchester guys for the West side team, right? Yeah. I played against some of them a couple times. Okay. Anyone stand out? Um... Elijah Stewart. He's real good. Yeah. Also from View Park, you know Jason. Yeah. Yeah. He's very talented. He's very talented. Big guy. Right? Yeah. Big, strong guy. Yeah. And they're still playing. They play tomorrow, I think at noon. So, well, you know what? It should be a great event, you know, and I'm really, really happy and excited that we're going to have Narbonne represented so well. And then in that top 24 game, we're going to have Jamal Hicks playing. So that's going to be good. And so Narbonne kind of gets a lot of representation here. Okay. Before we go, Scott, it looks like we have one more call. Caller, go ahead. You're on the air. Make it quick. This question is for Jamal, and I wanted to know, what should people look forward to next year coming from the Gauchos? Another question for Jamal. Another female. They're all ladies. Don't any guys have any questions for Jamal? We have another female calling in asking a question for Jamal, and the question was, go ahead. What's the question again? The font. I wanted to know, what should people look forward to next year coming from the Gauchos? And he's the super sophomore. What should people look forward to next year coming from the Gauchos? Since you're the super sophomore. Next year, you're going to see a lot more better shooting, and then you're going to see our team's going to have way better defense this year. A lot more man up defense pressure. Then we're going to have our shooting going to be better, and we're going to have Shane, Jeremiah out there hitting them threes. Okay. And training kick. And how many shots are you going to put up when you're working out? 600. Okay. See, that's what I'm talking about. Okay. Coach told you five, you said six. Okay. I like that. He learns fast. I know that Mr. Hicks is over here. Probably. Thinking, did I really create this guy, Jamal, with all these girls be wanting him and calling and all this? This is crazy. He's probably over there thinking like, how did this happen? Get a couple of those girls to rebound for you. Yeah. No kidding. No kidding. Exactly. And he can get 600 up in an hour. I just got a question for Reverend before we wrap this show up. Reverend, is Jamal a ladies man or something? Reverend, talk to me. You're the senior. You got to be one of the leaders here. Tell me what's up with this. Yeah. I think he's a ladies man, but he knows how to separate the ladies from basketball. He knows how to stay focused on basketball and then have the ladies out there. Oh, okay. Okay. But I mean, you don't think he's getting distracted by all this letting this go to his head? Nah. I don't think he is. Okay. Well, I know that I'm not going to, I don't know Jamal very well, but I know someone else who let the ladies go to his head. Back in the late nineties. Yeah. Yeah. I know someone else who let the ladies go to his head back in the late nineties. Was he good? He could jump. He could jump. He had hops. He had hops. He, and he could play defense. Didn't take 600 shots. He didn't take 600 shots a day, so he didn't shoot it very well. But, you know, we'll see if Jamal gets his 600. A day like he's saying. Oh yeah. He got to get some up for next year. He knows. Chena, will Jamal get 600 shots a day? You think or not? Yeah, I'm pretty sure he will. Okay. All right. He works hard. Okay. Well, listen, it's been a great show. We've had a lot of fun with the Narbonne Gauchos in the house. And I want to say, Chris, that I think we need to go to their first game next year. Make sure we see that they're going to win that game. I want to see them play Western. Chester. Yeah. It sounds like a budding rivalry. Yeah, I think so. I think so. So got a full day of basketball tomorrow. We've got the NCAA tournament tomorrow. And if you have cable, all the CIF Southern region states finals are coming on tomorrow on Time Warner Cable. So check those out. Starting at 10 o'clock in the morning, all the way till eight o'clock at night. Okay. Eight o'clock is Westchester Matter Day, right? Right. And we are rooting for who? I'm rooting for Westchester. I don't like Manny Art. I mean, I don't like Matter Day. We are rooting for Westchester because they're a city team. Yeah. Okay. That's who we're rooting for. We're rooting for Westchester. There's going to be three good games tomorrow. Just real quick, that Westchester Matter Day game is going to be the highlight tomorrow night. We got Chino Hills and I thought Loyola could pull it out, but they didn't. So we got Corona Centennial tomorrow at six. And at 12 o'clock, we got Compton High School and St. John Bosco. So it's going to be a really good game, really trio of good games tomorrow in the open Division 1 and Division 2. NC2A upset special, Harvard over Misch State. Wow. It's happening. Okay. All right. Well, listen, we appreciate everyone coming in and calling in. Great show tonight. And best of luck to Reverend Ochena in the upcoming months. As they are on their quest to get a scholarship. And Coach Hill, thank you for bringing everybody in and having such a great showing. It was a lot of fun. Thank you, Coach.
