📄 Transcript [show]

L.A. Taco Radio is in the air! Indeed. Indeed. The Prime. Episode number one, L.A. Taco Radio. What is up, loved ones? My name is Johnny Scott Gramercy. I'm your host and I was selected this evening in the beautiful new WePlay Radio studio here in downtown Los Angeles. Big thanks to Jeremy Hansen, the proprietor of WePlay Radio. Big thanks to Alex at L.A. Taco Radio. I'm going to play some soul and funk for you tonight. And I think you're going to dig it. It's all gravy from here on out. Tonight I put together a little bit of a show of some of the L.A. artists that released music in the last year or so, 2015. Not really a best of, per se, but just a collection of some of the great artistry that's coming out. I'm going to start you off with L.A. band Orgones. Some tough, sexy, adventurous sounds. Orgone. They're playing at the Mint December 31st for a New Year's Eve show. If you like this tune, you can find out more from their website, orgonespace.com. This tune's called Don't Push Your Luck. Enjoy, loved ones. Orgones. Tell me you want me to sing you a tune. Cause I've been stringing you along and it ain't fair Ain't fair That some things change, some things don't I'm wishing that I will but I feel like I won't at all And you want it all But you've been giving me the kind of love The kind of love that it's hard to quit And as long as you're still hanging round Running round You found me like it's easy come, easy go I try to run and hide but you always make me show it all And you want it all I'm not gonna tell a lie I might fall in love with you, baby, if the time is right I got my reasons but don't give them to me I'm not the kind I'm not a girl who likes to wear a heart on her sleeve But I know you wish I was the only one If you had to put me under the gun I'll tell you baby, sometimes something good is enough It's better if you don't push your luck And it's not like I'm trying to say Trying to say that I don't want you It's just gotta be the way that I want But I want you to just be cool, kick it and chill Meet up with you later if I want to Can I feel it all? Can we feel it all? I'm not gonna tell a lie I might fall in love with you Baby, if the time is right I got my reasons but I'll keep them to me I'm not the kind of girl Who likes to wear a heart on her sleeve But I know you wish I was the only one If you had to put me under the gun I'll tell you baby, sometimes something good is enough It's better if you don't push your luck And it's not like I'm trying to say Trying to say I don't want you But I know you wish I was the only one Who could have the courage To say the words I need to say So I guess in the end That a girl That a girl That a girl That a girl That a girl Needs to be That there's nobody tying me down Tie me down If you tie me down I'll just run wild Spread my wings It wouldn't be too long before I won't feel anything at all Do you still want it all? I need to have the courage To say the words I need to have the courage To say the words I'm not gonna tell a lie, I might fall in love with you, baby, if the time is right. I got all my reasons, but I'll keep them to me. I'm not the kind of girl who likes to wear her heart on the sleeve. But I know you wish I was the only one. If you had to put me under the gun, I'll tell you, baby, sometimes something good is enough. Oh, it's better if you don't push your luck. Oh, sometimes something good is enough. It's better if you don't push your luck. I know you're gonna be the right hand. This part is no good for you. I know you feel a bit lonely. Your mama should have followed you. Friends have found them all. You're out finding something new. Still you hate to watch them go. Tell me you're gonna make it. Tell me you're gonna make it. Tell me you're gonna make it. Tell me. Tell me. Oh, no. I know you're done with all the running. They say your brothers don't good for you. I know you're feeling it, Lord. And you're praying for the good to do. But that's about to get a little bit real. And there's a light at the end of the road. You know the art of tossing it all up. So tell me how you're going to make it home. Oh, I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. I can't hold. So I can get ahold So I can get ahold Mr. Junior Thomas and the Volcanoes. It's a strong LP called Beware. That tune is called Get a Hold of You. Next up, the one and only Thundercat. Them changes. Funk's not dead. Get a Hold of You It must have fell when I lost my mind Deep in the cup, drowning it in pain Somebody help, cause I can't find my way Nobody move, nobody move I Somebody tell me how I'm supposed to feel When I'm sitting here knowing this ain't real Ain't real Why in the world would I feel like this? I give my heart to you Just to watch you throw away the trash I've been juggling so long I don't think I can hold on Where were you when I needed you the most? Now I'm sitting here with a black hole in my chest A heartless road Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. When they find out what I'm talking about with that, they're going to be like, oh, he's nasty. Start off the set with Monophotics. That was a little bit. to bed music as the intro. And then LA's own Orgone. Don't push your luck from there. Beyond the Sun. A little bit earlier this year on the Shinachi Entertainment label. We followed that up with Junior Thomas and the Volcanoes. We'll get a hold of you from their Beware LP. That is out on the Truth and Soul record label. After that, the one and only Thundercat with Them Changes. From his record, sort of an LP. Sort of an EP. Titled The Beyond, Where the Giants Roam. That is out on the Brain Feeder label. And Thundercat bass virtuoso. But so much more though, you know. He's got a lot of nostalgic quality to his voice. Then we wrapped up that set with Loke Lion. Rain was the name of that tune from his Funk Soul Hip Hop LP. A little bit earlier this year, self-released on the Loke Lion Lounge label. Loke Lion's a productive LA artist. Tons of music and videos on his website. lokelion.com l-o-c-l-i-o-n dot com That brings us right up to present time. Loved ones, this is LA Taco Radio. My name is Johnny Scott Gramercy. Thanks for kicking it. We got a lot more music for you. So proud and equal parts jazzed, hyped, and excited to be a part of the LA Taco team.
