myself a rapper but but it is what I do you know I know a lot of people that don't want to call themselves rappers but it's like if you're rhyming over a 4-4 beat in certain cadences and you're not hitting notes you're rapping you know so just because you got a band doesn't mean you're not rapping you're a graffiti artist as well yeah yeah graffiti writer CBS yeah last 22 years of my life in CBS alone and yeah I've been writing for 30 something years now excellent and that's how that's actually how I come to be acquainted with you as a neighborhood-love.com founder else also also a member of good we have more problems within our own crew than we do with them and let's let's talk a little bit about let's just talk for a minute about what you brought you uh this is new stuff with producer Paris Sax yeah that's the Dirt Road Holiday project I've been working on that for about four years it just turned into something it was supposed to be a free album that we were gonna do in a couple weeks and it just turned into this whole other thing people kept contributing to it and making it a bigger album so yeah um yeah I owe you a little bit of an apology man cause uh cause I'm aware of your material and so I was like okay and this is primarily the basis of this show is primarily is primarily about soul and funk and you know I'll dabble in some other music but you know I mean to name the cliche man it's gotta be funky and so I was like okay I'm gonna fit be able to fit in something over here cause cause you're the stuff that I knew of which actually turns out is pretty old yeah I'll see you next time. I thought I was, I don't know, I thought I was making songs. I thought I was getting things done, but really I wasn't. You know, there was something not happening or falling. It was all for a reason for me to kind of find my way, you know, because when I was getting successful and doing really well and being in Europe six to nine months out of the year and going on between Bright Eyes and Wu-Tang Clan and doing huge festivals, you know, playing with 15,000, 20,000 people, it was overwhelming for me, and I just wasn't ready for it. And I kind of, having a drug problem and everybody kind of supporting the fact that I was out of my mind because it was entertaining, you know, it just, I come home wrecked, you know. Now it's just a lot more, I have a better understanding of that it's a privilege to do this and that people care, not that I deserve it, you know what I mean? Where do you see yourself in another 20 years? That's so hard to say. It's weird, you know, because, you know, you look like De La Soul or KRS-One and, like, they're still rapping and they look good doing it, you know, but there's not too many good-looking, like, 50-year-old, white rappers, you know what I mean? Like, I love the Beastie Boys to death, but, you know, they didn't age so gracefully in certain instances, and, you know what I mean, being like, you know, I don't know, it depends, really, but I don't want to be touring, you know, other countries doing my hits from the, you know, now, you know what I mean? Well, what about on the other side of the board, you know? Well, I mean, I always, it's so weird. I don't know, I have no more plans. I've had so many plans that don't work out. Like, my brothers, I have two brothers, and one of them's an amazing producer in the space. He's an incredible, talented engineer producer, and my other brother's really great, you know, in film, and he's a set designer and all that stuff, and so between the two of them, I thought we had our own little business, and, like, it was going to be like, oh, we'll get production and video, we'll be an in-house team, you know, things like that. There are plans in the works, but when I try to force them to happen, they don't happen, so I just kind of learned to, like, sit back and go with it instead of swimming upstream and trying to, you know, have expectations of where I should be at, you know. Yeah. You mentioned being in Europe. You're pretty much of a globetrotter, right? Yeah. You've been all around the world? Yeah, everywhere pretty much. All the continents? Except I never went to Japan or Australia, but pretty much everywhere else that I can remember to the best of my ability. Yeah. Yeah, a lot of good soul coming out of Australia and New Zealand nowadays. Yeah. It seems a little bit unlikely, but reggae, too. A lot of good everything's coming out of everywhere these days, you know. It's hard to envision. Imagine, like, such great reggae coming out of a place like Australia where pretty much everything can kill you, you know, like the amount of predators that are there that do it. I try to feature, like, something from that continent at least once every two weeks. Yeah. I played a tune earlier from New Zealand. Yeah. Yeah. shops but now it's a power plant bike pretty much but it's one of those dumb choppers with suicide shift and open primary and extended front end so are you like a vintage dude custom dude or whatever i have been and i was really all about that for years and rigid and 70s 60s you know real time period correct kind of stuff but my back hurts and i'm about 40 at this point and i finally got me a sorry i finally got a dyna a nice modern harley you know well i got a defender a cop that get into the whole real dilemma i could sound like an old lady for hours about how bad the drivers are and you should look over your shoulder when you go and blah blah blah and the way all my friends get killed or ran over is always just on the neck of the road and i'm like hey i'm a little bit too much for you i don't wanna sound like that guy but yeah it's pretty dangerous out there hey uh can
