chairman of the Young Republican National Federation Dennis are you on the line I'm here hi Dennis how are you doing tonight Janet I'm doing very well how are you doing I know you're in the Midwest there it's a beautiful here in the Midwest rainy and cold okay well it's it's actually cold here in Los Angeles it's about 45 degrees 39 degrees here so I guess we're sharing the same weather yes we are but I'm sure I'm sure the way we're reacting to it we think it's a blizzard here so yeah we're bundled up no flip-flops for us today thank you for joining me first of all and you know you guys had a very exciting night last night and to our listeners we're gonna talk a little bit about we're gonna talk about Iowa a little bit and then we're gonna talk about we're gonna talk about Dennis's organization as well but just off the bat I want to ask you Dennis your your thoughts about last night were there any big surprises with last night in terms of the results you know I don't think in my opinion there's too many surprises out there I think for the first time you know you see some polling data that was out there I think if you go back to the summary look at some of the early preliminary polling data you know you had Trump it was always sitting around 26 percent and as we got closer to Iowa in the caucus you know those numbers had you know around 33 percent I personally never believed that Trump was sitting at 30 percentile given the fact that he hadn't really run a campaign in Iowa for several reasons when you know early state maybe you know you look at Iowa and people are like well how many Republican candidates have really won Iowa and then gone on to become president especially in recent history you know you know Michelle Bachman and he had uh on Cuckoo Bee uh they won Iowa but they did not go on to become president nor did they go on to not to not parties not me um Senator Cruz uh put you know he ran a full pledge campaign in all 99 counties so I wasn't surprised by his victory last night I think the bigger surprise out of last night was Marco Rubio uh closing the gap and uh finishing a very strong third um I really thought that third place was kind of up for that and I think it really leads us uh next week's uh you know the answer primary uh that it could be interesting it's gonna be uh your start seeing some significantly uh significant changes I think after next week and and the makeup of the race and you know you bring up a great point um about um Senator Marco Rubio um even even um a lot of people uh you know in terms of the pundits out there um they didn't count him out but ដែកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកក podcasts… podcasts podcasts Super Tuesday is the big one next month so that that's 30 days if I first and March 15th are big primary days yes so it's coming up we already know former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee he's out he's done you know he's done about when when we hear let's say Governor Christie what are your thoughts Super Tuesday I think New Hampshire will tell a lot for him next week I think he's one of those individuals that need to play from the top three or strong force depending on how the math works out governor Christie needs a good New Hampshire definitely and with him being from the being from the Northeast and it kind of in that region he does and what about former senator Rick Santorum I think that's one of those campaigns that I mean it's not four years ago you just haven't caught fire and you haven't had it I mean you haven't even played podcasts you've been on the main stage of debate you know I think I think that's one campaign that will be it won't be there okay and I know although she did get one one delegate karli fiorina yeah I mean that one you know I don't know I… am i viable can i do this is it worth it you know right yeah and like i said everybody likes to write a check for a winner that's for sure well this this was um this was a good um breakdown um breakdown of last night and it was definitely exciting to watch um for once um because i i have to tell you even for our for my job i have to watch all the debates of everything and and after a while i i was kind of burnt out so it was great to kind of um kind of um you know watch watch the numbers come in and and um and see the change coming on i want to switch things up a little bit and um actually talk about you and your organization and um i if you could um could you tell um tell us and tell the audience a little bit about your organization kind of um kind of what your scope is and even how you're involved in the primary process right now okay yeah i'm as we would talk about i'm chairman of the national young republican federation uh the oldest auxiliary organization in the country and in the republican party um i was elected as on august 1st in chicago uh at our convention uh we have uh 42 member states uh we're growing uh we we've actually added some states uh some of our membership uh getting elected in august so we are seeing growth we are seeing younger people across the country and uncharted states uh charter and organize and get involved um we are uh the group is uh between the ages of 18 to 40 years old uh a lot of young professionals people who are uh been involved in politics are looking to get involved and uh and get to know people who say you know have the same uh like-minded uh thoughts uh you have people who are looking to run for office or currently are office holders um across the country i would say that when i ran one of my strongest talking points was to build a stronger foundation for the republican party going forward and what i mean by that is i i truly believe and uh getting uh young republicans are elected to a local level of government but that your school board municipal government local mayor library board i believe that you know people don't take that uh serious enough as they do they think it's this president and at the end of the day your local your local board you know they control most of your tax dollars those are the most important entities that people need to be paying attention to and so i've taken a focus with my organization and my team about you know educating and promoting those who seek to run for for a lower level office and those running will we also help for those people running for congress and uh and state state level uh offices and what i mean by that is we'll go out we'll organize uh campaign walks we'll help uh where we can we do virtual phone banks we'll do phone banks on site senator uh cassidy and little we did a we did a special walk uh for him uh in new orleans back in november last whatever for the special election uh we do a lot of that and we do a lot of education we do a lot of training while we have four meetings a year uh rotate across the country where we have our meetings our next big one is uh yrlc and yrlc.gov podcasts podcasts primary and i believe you know florida and ohio i think our winner take all yes and that will be interesting i mean um what if kai sequins ohio by itself what if rubio wins florida you know right those are significant chunk of um you know delegates i mean you can have a lot of fun with the map you know and definitely plays out definitely definitely and for our audience um what's that magic number that republicans have to have in regards to to get the yeah to get the nomination i i want to say 1500 don't quote me on that one that that that's a number i not choose solid on because i know that 1555 i think okay okay that's what i want to throw out there that's what i want to throw out there yeah well it's a long haul it's a long haul and you know what and and definitely one person's not going to get all of that so there definitely can be some negotiations going on um don't quote me on the on the number i'm not sure yeah that's a big number though yeah yeah that that's you know it you know and and i'm i'm sure probably two this year all of that will change i'm sure if whatever the number is it it will change because you you've got you've got so much um an active electorate now that you didn't have a lot of that was kind of based on i'd say business as usual um definitely not business as usual well that hard line doesn't move the delegate hard line you know the the winner take to get the nomination that line there is a define yes once you cross that number you got the nomination so that there is a set number uh but but in regards to how this is going to play out i mean you can have three or four candidates have a good chunk of delegates going into the convention exactly it that and that's exactly what i'm i i let's say you three i'm thinking maybe four i'd say the fourth one would have it where it's close to the third person well the fourth might be sticking around then hoping for the convention to get something yeah you know and and that'll be interesting and and that's all ដែកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកកក
