Don't envy water just much at day.
Don't envy but a night.
Sand don't envy the rain forest soil.
And an oak tree don't envy cedar trees.
Why do we kill each other when we're all the same?
When we're all the same.
When we're all the same.
When we're all the same.
When we're all the same.
Calabash don't envy water just and a bowl of fruit don't envy calabash.
And a rain forest soil don't envy sand.
So why do we kill each other when we're all the same?
When we're all the same.
When we're all the same.
Aye aye aye aye aye aye aye.
Cause we're all the same.
By who ye lay that vy Thank you.

Thank you.
I'm sorry, just ain't gonna work out Just ain't gonna work out, girl Indeed.
Indeed.
We started off that set with Son and Star off of the Daptone label.
Sondra Williams and Star Lowe, they're backup singers, pretty well known as backup singers for Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, but they got their own chops, they got their own legs, right?
They are both out of the South Bronx, and Hot Shot was the name of that tune.
We followed that up with the Cincinnati Growl from Morrie Ayer's Ubiquity.
And like I said, that was on the B-side to the 1977 Runnin' Away single out on the Polydora label.
After that, we heard Georgia Ann Muldrow, kind of an Afro-funk space jam.
I like that one a lot.
She's got her own thing going on.
That's from the 2012 release, Seeds, and Calabash was in that tune on the Some Other Ship Connect record label.
Some Other Ship Connect, yeah.
Connect Gang, Connect Gang.
Yes, sir.
And we followed that up and wrapped up the set with good old Mayor Hawthorne.
Just dang good.
It's gonna work out.
Mayor Hawthorne's an interesting dude, man, because he was like a producer.
Oh, by the way, Jeff Raffredo's here.
What's up, Jeff?
I made it.
Better late than never.
My motto.
He comes sliding in.
Mayor Hawthorne sort of started, he's a producer guy, and he sort of just started out as a goof, right?
And just kind of mimicking some old, like, lowrider R&B songs, and I guess all his other musical friends were like, you gotta, like...
Put that out.
Yeah.
Put it out.
And the next thing you know, it's like three or four LPs later, and many, many tours at this point.
Yeah.
I didn't know that's how he started.
So it worked out.
The name of that tune is Just Ain't Gonna Work Out, but it sure did work out for him, right?
Yeah.
So what you're saying is he was making fun of that music.
In a way.
Oh.
Yeah, but I mean, you know, it's a little bit cheesy from time to time.
I mean, that's the fun part.
Yeah.
Right?
Start working!
Loved ones, tomorrow night I'll be, by the way, if you're listening to the live show, on Thursday night, what's today, the 24th?
Uh, sure.
It's the 24th-ish, whatever Thursday is.
Yes.
Tomorrow night, the 25th, I'll be up in Bakersfield doing a guest DJ spot on the radio station KSVG Savage Radio.
You can find them online.
They're pretty easy.
KSVG.
And so if you're in the Kern County area, check me out at 10 p.m.
Pacific time.
All the way up till 12, I'll be playing the kind of stuff that I play on the show here at KSVG.
And you can stream them online, too.
But good news up there.
It's a good station.
It's a good operation.
And I always have a good time whenever I go up there.
And I'm looking forward to it.
Nice.
KSVG's tomorrow night, Friday night, the 25th, at 10 p.m.
to 12.
That's right, yeah.
We're good.
Got the dates in order.
If you follow, go ahead.
But back to present time, right?
Right.
I see it.
The Gregorian calendar.
All right.
Let me see what I got queued up here.
D'Angelo with his version of Feel Like Making Love.
The Roberta...
I think Roberta Flack was the original on that.
Hmm.
Not 100% positive.
A foreigner?
Yeah.
Foreigner?
Oh, you're thinking of Bad Company.
Was that Bad Company?
That's a different tune.
Oh, okay.
Same title, different tune.
In America.
That's funny that you know all this crazy, obscure Latin shit, but...
you don't know any, uh...
this...
the, uh...
cl...
uh...
classic rock standards.
Anyway, after...
After that, we're gonna hear, uh, The Crusaders, featuring Miss Randy Crawford.
Uh, the 12-inch version of Street Life.
I'm gonna follow it up with, uh, some De La Soul.
Woo!
Featuring Biz Marquis.
Ooh, that's gotta be good.
Mm-hmm.
I think you're gonna dig it.
Loved ones, I think you'll dig it.

Next up, De La Soul featuring Biz Markie.
Famous.
Stone Age is the name of this tune.
Off of the balloon, Mind State.
I think it's their third LP.
Watch this.
A mic test, one, two.
Aw, man, I check a bella.
What you mean, Biz Markie?
What you mean, Biz Markie?
I hit the ride with the mayonnaise.
That's what I'm saying.
What you mean, Biz Markie?
What you mean, Biz Markie?
Man, I got beats on my sleeve like it were a police.
What you mean, Biz Markie?
What you mean, Biz Markie?
I was fine.
I substitute a bottle.
You should let me serve you with a slow, with a plug or two scoop.
Mr. Miyag never did dip for the bootleggers.
My legs and grin about a hug.
Testamates, I'm not by the chance.
I rain dance, I rain dance.
But step it just a bit, I don't need another shadow.
Makes, makes, it's gonna be the new man's motto.
Don't increase the bull because my pulley is broken and my belly is full.
It's the second I reckon on the bone and the ball making London bridges fall.
So check it.
I bring a point to the joints that we change and chop.
But we can bring it back to the beat box.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
To the beat.
I'm Consta Noose plug wonder.
Plotter.
Serenade her cause I gotta wreck it.
When in the womb I was naked.
Now I chill with latex cause of how I enter.
The black wood without a splinter.
Proving I have the chills what helps with moving.
Acid.
Saw the light cause I got glasses.
So we sip the cappuccino slowly.
I've been making some big money.
I've been making some big money.
I've been making some big money.
I drive big cars.
Serve the bubble like a bar.
Tender when in flight like a sender.
Lace, sticks, a dynamite on base.
Head laced.
The shit went till he's dead.
Run cause the cop is gonna come.
Diss my plugs down so they can kiss my grits.
Hold my balls without a mitt.
Grab the mouthpiece to talk the gag.
Nab it.
I keeps going like that rabbit.
Ricker.
Shay and Damon need a snicker.
Satisfy the norm.
Hey.
I'm in the room until the glass.
Night.
My glasses caught me see the light.
So we sip the cappuccino slowly.
If life is what you see it's usually what you get.
Won't take a drag without a net.
No.
To put the bit the bit the boom.
Mara.
Lay the pipe to please Carol.
Lou.
I don't know.
If it's true.
That's a bubble.
You'll catch a fever from the jungle.
Chocolate.
Nubian girls flock to it.
Sweets.
Can't sample beats.
Get the beatbox equipped with the dirt.
Biz Mark and Dougie works fine.
Makes work the will I tangle rhymes.
Hawk.
The light is thirsty in the dark.
So we.
Beatbox.
Beatbox.
Beatbox.
Beatbox.
Beatbox.
It's like a sword in the river but my M wasn't thick.
Super heavy like a Chevy pump.
My Macy open.
I had some screens in my pockets.
And played it kind of hush and did the outs.
Gotta check out the avenue.
I peeped the Zoa on the Gimme Gimme.
Plus we hit the plat.
Then the amps was on sams.
The villains got fat.
The natives went the neighbor then to make it please.
It's a hustle for a joint when you settlement cheese.
But we still be on the wax because it acts like that.
We still be on the moves because it moves like that.
So there ain't no reason it don't stop.
Because we can bring it back to the beatbox.
Beatbox.
Beatbox.
Watch this.
I don't know who was on this mic.
This thing smell awful.
Shhh.
Start off the set with D'Angelo.
Feel like making love.

And the crusaders after that with street life.
Featuring a render Crawford on the vocals.

of that tune.
And, uh, after that, De La Soul featuring Biz Markie, Stone Age, produced by Prince Paul.
And, uh, it's a little bit, a little bit hard to find that record digitally.
Um, I know you can find it on vinyl.
Really?
Mm-hmm.
Um, why?
I don't know.
It's set on Tommy Boy, and just like a lot of their other music, but, uh, I don't know.
Ask, ask them.
Limited pressings.
Yeah, yeah.
Um, and that concluded the set.
Loved ones, this is Neighborhood Love Radio, the musical extension of neighborhood-love.com.
Why don't you check out the website, neighborhood-love.com.
Uh, let me see.
Els just got back from England.
He went on a little painting fest over there, graffiti fest.
And so I'm sure there's going to be a ton of photos.
And while you're there, don't be shy about checking out the, uh, shop button.
Click the button that says shop, and you can check out the different Neighborhood Love t-shirts, skateboard decks, stickers, et cetera.
Yes.
Loved ones, uh, event coming up.
It's a few weeks away, but, uh, El Valorio.
That's put on by our friends over at Exodus Events.
It's a, uh, multicultural sort of, uh, mixed with Day of the Dead Festival.
Um, these folks at Exodus Events, man, they do it, they do it good every time, man.

By Lincoln Park.
And, uh, the date on that event is Saturday, November 7th, at 6 p.m.

By the way, if you ever go to an event over there at the Plaza de la Raza, it's a beautiful place, man, but you got to Uber it or you got to take a ride share or taxi or something, man, because parking sucks over there.
Yeah.
Parking in this town, I tell you.
I don't think it was meant for events that size like Exodus Events does it.
They don't go small anymore.
Well, it's pretty cheap to get around on those types of services, those Ubers.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I've actually heard that there's been a reduction in drunk driving as a result.
I believe it.
Yeah.
That's positive.
It's good for you.
Yeah.
Thank you, Uber and Lyft.
Lyft.
There's some more.
There's one other one.
I forget.
There's a smaller one that nobody ever knows about.
There's also a Paisa taxi out in the valley.
Really?
Yeah, sort of an underground.
Nice.
Like some beat up old station wagon will come pick you up, but if you call them, you got to answer back in Espanol.
Otherwise, they'll hang up on you.
Huh.
A little underground ride sharing thing.
Yeah.
