Thank you.
They are spearheading, putting on a show, LA's Story, a lowrider culture event.
It's pretty fascinating.
There's a lot to talk about.
We're going to get to that in a minute.
First up, I've got some music for you.
Our good friend Thundercats got a brand new EP, Them Changes.
I think you're going to dig it.
Funk's not dead.
Funk's not dead.
Where did it go?
Did I leave it in the cold?
So please give it back, cause it's not yours to take.
It must have fell when I lost my mind.
Deep in the gut, drowning it in pain.
Somebody help, cause I can't find my way.
Nobody move, nobody move.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Now I'm sitting here with a black hole in my chest A heartless, broken mess La, la, la, la, la I think I'm gonna give it up on the whole thing I think I'm gonna give it up on the whole thing I think I'm gonna give it up on the whole thing I think I'm gonna give it up on the whole thing Stop me, what you thinking?

Yeah Yeah Yeah I got work to do I got work, baby I got work to do I got a job, baby I got work to do I got work to do I got work to do I got work to do I'm out here trying to make it Woman, can't you see It takes a lot of money to make it Let's talk truthfully Keep your love lights burning And a little food hat in my plate You might as well get used to Me coming home a little late Oh, I, I I got work to do I got a job, baby I got work to do I got work to do I got work to do I got work to do I got work to do I got work to do I'm taking care of business Woman, can't you see I gotta make it for you I gotta make it for you make it for me don't want to make you feel i'm neglecting you let us spend more time i got work i got work oh so much work i got work hey we started off the set with uh thundercat them changes man that's a hard-ass tune i love that tune from his uh latest lp the beyond where the giants roam out on the brain feeder label he's playing in august with the earl sweatshirt and oh it's a low-end theory so there's probably all kinds of superstars on there um after that we heard four hero you gonna give it up want to quit and then uh newish music now from the internet from la gabby was the name of that tune from the ego death record out on the odd future label like i said that's a perfect summertime record and then we wrapped up the set with the isley brothers brother brother brother we were just i was just talking with pep probably some of the realest lyrics out there 1972 record brother brother brother really innovative record i've done a lot thanks so much for coming by guys uh let me see i got mc poncho you antonio pelayo pelayo pelayo am i saying that right sorry dude and of course our old friends uh uh old friend pep williams um they got uh they got something coming up called la story which is a lowrider cultural event um i think when he uh poncho you want to get us started talk to us a little bit about the event well i think antonio would be the one to talk to but i'm honored that they chose me to emcee this event you know because this is the man right here that's that's put the whole thing together him and peps yeah they've been working on this real hard but antonio's uh he's a man okay tell us a man um should i start from years ago well tell us let's let's just qualify the event it's a lowrider cultural event so it's essentially like to call it a car show would be like uh diminutive right it's it's much more than that it's music and uh i'm assuming food you know yes it's it's it's uh the type of event that we call experiential so it's a fusion of a concert art exhibit food drinks we're exhibiting uh we're exhibiting the famous gypsy rose inside of the location plaza de la raza and then we have a very small uh car exhibit sponsored by the peterson automotive museum outside of plaza that's going to be like 10 cars yeah the location does not allow us to have a lot of cars that's why we we're not doing a big car show but man we've gotten like over 200 requests from people asking us hey how can i enter my car yeah we can't do it we can't accommodate that yeah last time um i think when pep was telling me about it a few weeks ago and he was talking about it's kind of a funny story to me anyway i mean here's pep williams here's a dude he knows a shitload of celebrities right famous people from all walks of life right or off all walks of the entertainment biz and and uh he's not really good he's not the type of dude to get starstruck right until he saw the uh the car the gypsy rose oh yeah car totally blew me away when i saw it yeah it was just yeah like a dream come true can you tell us a little bit about that car specifically well for me uh when i was little i think i was five like five years old and i used to draw it in kindergarten and it was just like the coolest car and i would always get in trouble for my teacher because i would never do my work because i don't because i would draw it yeah and a 64 is the easiest car to draw because it's just lines and two little hooks yeah and a roof angles right angles easy so i finally um i saw it for the first time in color uh when i was 11 years old because that's the first time i saw a color tv at my grandmother's house and i was like the car is pink and i had no idea because i never knew what what color it was because we always had a black and white tv and then from there um back in i think maybe a few years ago i met uh jesse who actually owns a gypsy rose and i was like oh my god i'm gonna get a gypsy rose and i'm gonna get a gypsy rose and then um i had an opportunity to shoot it so i went over to the house and i saw it and it was so you ran over to the house i i basically almost zoned out and it's just like nobody talked to me let me just go see this car and then i actually was totally stunned for at least like five minutes and this car is sort of uh unless i have this wrong sort of a flagship you know it's what i see it's like it's something it's been on the billboards for the event and the flyers and so on right that's cool um what else uh oh headlining tiara classic yeah classic stuff who uh who got that who nailed that uh it was a combination of myself and my partner steve guerrero okay yeah yeah that's excellent man that's cool it's gonna be a cool event um love joins a little bit more about this event for a moment la story a low writer culture event it's at the plaza de la raza over there by lincoln park over there in the eastern part of la it is a 21 and over event and uh which is a good thing because uh there's gonna be all kinds of booze there sponsored by uh aljumador that's right and jack daniel oh no shit and uh pep is curating um curating the artist for the event as well yeah yeah really really really really good artists um coming out from for the show from big sleeps to uh to the negretti's um isaiah and his father um freddy coming out we have picasso we have risk we have risk and picasso picasso picasso great name oh yeah yeah and he's dope his work is incredible so we have all these huge guys coming out and we have um chas coming out too oh no shit yeah chas is coming out and just uh wait till you see the art it's something else it's really cool and i have a couple of pieces there too as well of course yeah um low-rider culture that's uh you know it's not coming right i don't say it but it's like chicano is it wouldn't be anywhere without chicano culture and i've said it before it's it's got me in trouble with a couple friends here and there but i say it anyway if you're an angeleno that means culturally speaking you are part chicano because this is just a part of our culture you walk outside and you see it everywhere um you know you see Disney Disney Disney Disney You know, that's what I've been doing since I was 18.
Okay.
You know, I started off with Chicano rap.
I'm one of the first Chicano rappers.
And then from there, I got into acting and, you know, I've been on a few shows, Suns Anarchy, Dexter, CSI, NCIS, Southland, to name a few.
Yeah.
You could do broadcasting too.
You know, yes.
All I need is one mic.
We got one here for you.
That's cool.
So, we got a couple more minutes before we get back into the music.
What is something we haven't talked about that people can look forward at the event?
Food.
Food.
The food's going to be off the hook.
I heard Vallarta is one of the sponsors and they're going to be making their tacos.
Oh, shit.
You know what's going on, Antonio?
The carne asada and everything that comes with it.
That's right.
Jack Daniels.
You know, it's just a beautiful event that Antonio puts on.
You know what I mean?
It's everybody coming together.
No fights.
No trouble.
You just want to come and have a good time and drink and be yourself.
This is the place to do it.
You know what I mean?
And, and learn something, you know, because it's an experience.
There's a gallery.
There's a lot to learn here.
Yeah.
You know.
I feel like there's about a decade or even a little bit more between 10 and 20 years ago, man, it was a little bit rough around in the streets, you know, and like to have an event like this might not necessarily be impossible.
And it kind of sucks when I think about it.
And I'm not saying everybody I know is innocent.
I'm just saying that it is what it is.
But, you know, a lot of drive-ins had to close down, things like that.
And so it's kind of a beautiful time to go out on a nice summer night and, like, enjoy a local, cultural event like this.
You know what I mean?
And I don't know.
I'm looking forward to it.
Anyway.
Yeah, and it's a beautiful atmosphere.
You got the lake right there.
I mean, it's beautiful.
Yeah.
Looks incredible.
We're talking about Plaza de la Raza right there at Lincoln Park over there on...
Mission?
Mission.
Mission.
Mission Road.
3540 North Mission Road, Los Angeles, California, 90031.
Loved ones, we're going to be coming back and talking more about it.
But, of course, if you want to look it up, I think if you just type in L.A.
Story, Go Write Your Culture event, you'll come up, but you can check out L.A.
Story.
Excuse me.
I'm so sorry.
You can check out Facebook, Exodus Events, or if you're going to want to go right to the website, you can do so at exodus, exodusevents.org, and you'll see photos, you'll see vendor lists, and, of course, a place to buy tickets.
Yeah.
You guys want to hang out a little bit, listen to some music?
Beautiful.
Yeah, I love the music you're playing.
Yes.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
All right.
Let's see.
What do we got coming up?
A little band called Tierra.
Nice.
Yeah.
All right.
I put together a little sort of a mix.
I think it'll go nicely with the show.
Hopefully you think so.
Tierra, and I'm going to go right into The Midnighters, East L.A.
Legends, The Midnighters, and what do we got after that?
Brenton Wood.
Oh, wow.
My hometown.
He's a good friend of mine.
Yeah.
Oh, no shit.
Well, so is The Midnighters.
Yes, yes.
I got some questions for you.
Oh, wow.
All right.
And then a little bit of a northern band, Malo, right after that.
But it's just shots.

Man, this is a classic, loved ones.
You're gonna dig it.
Be in you Let's get away from it all Me and you Having a ball You know, we've been together a long time And you know what?
We can get a little old lightweight thing going If we really put our hearts to it If you try and I try You know what?
Girl, there's no telling how far we can go Remember those loving fools, Romeo and Juliet?

The way that you hold me in the night.
The way that you make things go right.
Whenever you're in my arms.
Oh, you're filling me with all your charms.
From the favorite day to the favorite night.
I can't stop my ripped up surprise.
I can't stop my ripped up surprise.

Some folks call that the Chicano National Anthem.
Prior to that, we heard Brenton Wood from L.A.
He bounced around a little bit.
We were talking about that.
He lived for a while in San Pedro, a couple other places around L.A.
He's an L.A.
legend.
And prior to that, we heard another L.A.
legend, the Midnighters, giving up on love from their Whittier Boulevard LP.
Some good 60s soul R&B.
And start off the set with Ciara.
And by the way, Ciara's playing Saturday, July 25th at a little event called the L.A.
Story, put on by Exodus Events.
That event's...
There's a lot of...
I was reading up on their website.
There's a lot of booze at that event.
Like...
Jack Daniels, Finlandia, Imador.
Yeah.
That's gonna be a fun one, man.
I hope you got some benches for people to have a seat.
But is there anything we missed as far as events?
Oh, I want to talk to you a little bit more.
We sort of brushed by the art event a little bit.
What can people...
Is it just a regular exhibit and cars?
Is there some performance?
Other performances?
We need to talk about.
The art exhibit, we have a mix of graffiti artists, photographers.
We have artists that are bringing their paintings.
We even have a trunk of a 64.
And it has a beautiful airbrush on it.
I think we have a couple of sculptures.
Sculptures coming in?
Yeah.
Yeah, some really, really cool sculptures from different artists.
Yeah.
And it's also hosted by Contendance.
Dave and Lala Romero.
That's right.
By the way, guys, I want to thank you so much for coming by.
And you brought a couple other people to make our studio look really nice.
Oh, yeah.
Thank you for having us.
Yeah, for sure.
Where's Amandita Garcia?
Miss Garcia.
She's still in the bank.
You didn't bring her by.
She'll be at our next event in September.
I'm just saying, you could have brought her by.
All right.
What's the...
Okay, I want to talk to you a little bit more about Exodus events and stuff, because it's kind of...
I was looking through the different events, and everything just looks super fun.
La Bola was a few months back, right?
How'd that go off?
I didn't get a chance to go there.
We had about 5,000 people.
Super packed.
And that was basically sort of like this, a culture event that kind of centered around the Lucha Libre.
Right.
You know?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Scene.
Scene.
Is it a scene?
Culture.
Lucha Libre to culture.
Okay, cool.
And El Valorio.
And that seems to be an annual event for the Day of the Dead.
And the talent you got for that is like, not necessarily mainstream, just known to be, what was it, a couple years back, Very Be Careful played, and Jeremy sold DJs, and you can't touch that guy.
I mean, for doing what I do, that's who we look up for.
That's the Peyton Mannings, you know, for people like me.
Right.
And you'll be continuing to do that, right?
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
Cool.
What's, where'd you grow up, Antonio?
I was born in Glendale, 1973, and then I was sent to Mexico in 1980.
And I lived in Mexico in a small town called El Palmar, from 1980 to 89.
Came back to Glendale, moved around a little bit, but basically grew up in Mexico.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You feel more at home north of the border?
You know, every time I get interviewed, I really don't feel at home anywhere, because I've moved, you know, I was taken from here, and then I didn't feel at home over there.
So now I came back.
So it's like, I've been split from my home.
Do you feel like that has something to do with your drive, your hustle?
Maybe.
Keep going?
I think it came from my dad's hustle.
Like he, he, he, he never slept either.
He was always working, holding two jobs, three jobs at a time.
Yeah.
And he, he just couldn't stand his kids being around the house, watching TV.
He couldn't stand to see that.
Turn the TV off here, you're going to do something around the house.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I grew up around that.
And you're an artist as well.
Right.
Both professionally and you do sketch work, you sell work.
I see that.
You also work for a major...
Studio.
Entertainment studio.
Okay.
And where do you see, with all these little babies you got out there, where do you see that going in the next, say, three to five years?
Well, my, my vision for Exodus Events is to become one of the biggest, biggest, you know, biggest, you know, cultural event companies out there.
Mm-hmm.
We, you know, every year it gets bigger and bigger.
Have you ever done any out of Los Angeles events similar?
No, but they, we already have talks like, like the Lucha Libre event.
We, we have talks of taking it to Mexico, Dominic Republic, or Japan.
Oh, shit.
And, and El Velorio, we're talking to some people right now from New York.
Mm-hmm.
And Arizona.
They want us to take it over there because they have nothing like it.
Yeah.
It's kind of, it's kind of cool how different Latino, Chicano cultural things have spread out through the country.
Right.
And I don't know if they were always there and you just didn't see it in, in pop culture or something.
I don't know.
What do you think?
Not that I know of.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, you, you're the one.
You're the one setting blaze to all the culture.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All across the states.
I'm, I'm, I'm honored and, and privileged to, to be in the middle of it.
Poncho, what do you got coming up, man?
Yeah, you got a lot of irons in the fire.
What's coming up in the next few minutes?
Well, I got to have a party on July, well, the 18th of, God, Saturday.
I have a big party in the, my hometown, San Pedro Harbor area that I'll be hosting.
Right now, I'm working on a documentary on Chicano culture for this camera crew that's been following me around in my everyday life.
And they're sending that back to Spain.
I have another Japan tour.
I toured Japan six times through my Chicano rap.
And I'll be heading back to Japan in probably October.
Weren't you just in Spain?
No, I haven't done Spain.
Spain's down here.
Well, I had a couple that I was entertaining.
They're tattoo artists.
Okay.
During the Ink and Iron.
So I had them, but they had nothing to do with this other camera crew.
They were from Madrid.
And right now, there's a camera crew down here from Barcelona.
So they've been following me around.
And.
You know, doing interviews and stuff in my everyday life.
So I'm always pretty busy.
Then my regular nine to five, I'm a dock worker, longshoreman.
I've been doing that for 26 years.
So that's what I do every day.
Yeah.
All right, man.
Thank you.
And Pep, what do you got coming up?
Well, there's this event actually you guys are working towards.
Yeah.
But you're the same, you're the same type of dude.
I know you got a lot of irons in the fire.
What else is going on?
I have a couple.
I actually, my main thing I have coming up is I'm working on a documentary.
About suicidal.
And so it's about another, I'd say four months of filming.
And I got to go all over to knock it out.
So that's going to be like.
About current band or like a.
It's like more about the lifestyle.
Not so much like the band, but what the band kind of spawned.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like what it created.
Because it's like that.
The subculture.
Yeah.
Like the subculture.
But it's like that all around the world.
It really is a phenomenon.
It's huge.
I mean.
I've known.
It's all around the world.
We've all known a bunch of like.
I mean there's a handful of hardcore bands that they got a following.
And the following even got on the books as being you know, gangs or whatever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Got regularly noticed.
You know what I mean?
But it's just different.
You know.
The loyalty that that band has.
I won't say commands.
They just have it.
Yeah.
You know.
I don't even think they asked for it originally.
It just happened.
Yeah.
Interesting.
I didn't have access to it.
So I just said.
Well let me just film.
Because I've been filming it about six years now.
So this is like the last part of it.
So yeah man.
It's going to be cool.
Just a lot to get done.
Because I have to go to Indonesia.
I have to go to Rio.
To Sao Paulo.
Chile.
Colombia.
Japan.
All before like the end of the year.
If I want to have it on schedule.
So.
So it's going to be a lot.
Love doing this.
All this stuff we're talking about.
I'll be posting up some links on.
You know.
I could sit here and ramble off some links all night long.
And it just won't cover all the stuff that these guys do.
But mainly I want to tell you about LA Story.
A low rider cultural event.
And that's going down Saturday July 25th at 7pm.
A little car show.
Art event.
Music.
Food.
Fashion.
Etc. It is a 21 and over event.
