Sometimes I want to quit, but I still got to try.
When I see a baby girl caught up in that world, it brings a tear to my eye.
She may not want to hear what I got to say.
I was guilty of making that same mistake.
Standing here trying to tell her what it's about.
Does she hear me?
I remember his name from back in the day.
Holding me, hugging me, loving just the same.
Used to swear that I was his only one.
Then I gave him some and it was done.
I'll tell it like it is.
Tell it like it is.
Tell it like it is.
Oh, I got to tell it like it is.
Oh, tell it like it is.
Read it in a paper.
A young brother.
The bright future's been shot and killed.
Saw it on the news.
A brother's been accused.
How's that supposed to make me feel?
Pain deep in my heart.
God, please.
Please hear my cry.
When I see a young brother lost in the world, it brings a tear to my eye.
You may not want to hear what I have to say.
But I witness the same old things every day.
Precious scars, family ties being thrown away.
Do you feel me?
Do you feel me?
I remember those good times back in the day.
Laughing, joking, thought it would never change.

Tired of seeing my brothers and sisters being hurt and pained.

Keep on, oh, keep on moving, keep on dancing.
Three, that's the magic number.
Three, it is, it's the magic number.
Three, somewhere in this hip-hop soul community.
We're going three next up, and that's the magic number.
What does it all mean?
Difficult preaching is posthumous pleasure.
Pleasure in preaching starts in the heart.
Something that stimulates the music in a measure.
Measure in the music, raising three parts.
Casually sleep, but don't do like the soul.
Cause seeing and doing are actions for monkeys.
Doing hip-hop hustle.
No rock and roll, unless your name's Brewster.
Cause Brewster's a puppy.
Parents let go, cause it's magic in the air.
Criticizing rap, so you're out of order.
Stop looking, listen to the phrase and spread the stairs.
And don't get offended while Mace Docey does your daughter.
A dry camera roll system is now set.
Fly around the store under Daisy Productions.
It stands for the inner sound, y'all, in your Quebec.
That the action's not a trick, but sure enough, it functions.
Everybody wants to be a DJ.
Everybody wants to be in the sea.
But being speakers are the best.
And you don't have to guess.
Still, I'm so posse, cause it's the three.
And that's the magic number.
It's the three.
This here piece of the pie is not dessert, but the court that we're dining.
We out of every darn time.
The effect is, mmm, when a daisy grows in your mind.
Showing true position.
This here piece is kissing the part of the pie that's missing.
Where that negative number fills up the casualty.
Maybe you can subtract it.
You can call it your lucky partner.
Maybe you can call it your adjective.
But odd as it may be, without my one and two, where would there be my three?
Mace posse me.
And that's the magic number.
What does it all mean?
Focus is formed by flaunts of the soul.
Souls who flaunt style gain praises by pounds.
Common are speakers who honor the scroll.
Scroll written daily creates a new sound.
Listeners listen, cause this here is wisdom.
Wisdom of a speaker, a dub and a plug.
Set aside a legal substance and feed them for now.
Get them high off this dialect joint.
Time is a factor, so it's time to count.
Count not the negative actions of one.
Speakers of soul say it's time to shout.
Three forms the soul to a positive sum.
Dance to this fits and flex every muscle.
Space can be filled if you ride the boat.
Ride like my lumber.
Advance to the tune but don't do the hustle.
Shake, rattle, roll to my magic number.
Now you may try to subtract it, but it just won't go away.
Three times one.
What is it?
One, two, three.
That's the magic number.
Yo, what's up?
One, two, three.
And say children, what does it all mean?
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
One, two, three.
I would like.
No more, no less.
That's the magic number.
No more, no less.
Do the shake all day.
Do the shake all day.
No more, no less.
Kiss, kiss, no more.
No more, no less.
Do the shing-a-ling.
No more, no less.
No more, no less.
Anybody in the audience ever get hit by a car?
No more, no less.
I'll ride the water, mama.
No more, no less.
I'll ride the water, mama.
No more, no less.
Repeat my drive.
No more, no less.
That's a magic number.
I have a UK artist, Stephanie McKay, and that's from her US debut EP.
Eponymously titled, Stephanie McKay.
Tell It Like It Is was the name of the tune.
That was back in 2006.
I think she's had a US release LP since then and a couple singles.
And then after that, Jess and James going back to 1967.
Belgian soul duo.
Kind of a...
A lot of fun.
You look them up.
There's not a lot of info on there.
And the trouble also is there is a movie called Jess and James.
That tune was called Move.
So if you search Jess and James Move, you're going to get a lot of information about the movie called Jess and James.
So a little difficult.
But great material from that duo, Jess and James from the late 60s.
Then we wrapped up that set with the one and only De La Soul.
They're playing a pretty cool music festival.
In Long Beach in September.
Music Tastes Good Festival is the name of the event.
They're playing with a whole list of bands like The Specials, Cody Chestnut, Del Lafonge, Homo Sapien, Nick Waterhouse, many, many others.
Of course, that tune was called The Magic Number.
I'm not sure when that came out.
I'm guessing about 89 or so.
And that brings us right up to present time.
Loved Ones, the name of the program is LA Taco Radio.
We are the musical extension of lataco.com, a website devoted to the taco lifestyle in Los Angeles for over 10 years now.
Music, food, fashion, public opinion, a lot of art, and of course, tacos.
Check out lataco.com for the latest and greatest tacos.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Thank you.
You sticking around?
You want to hear some more music?
That'd be cool.
Let me line some stuff up for you.
I think I'm going to start you off with LA Zone, LA Trio, The Decoders.
I'm going to play for you Adventures in Paradise featuring Miss Alice Russell.
No new music from The Decoders.
They don't really...
To the best of my knowledge, I haven't really released a proper LP.
They'll just do a series of different singles.
But the last one that I know of, they did Rotary Connection tune a couple years back with Van Hunt.
But that was two years ago.
No releases from them in two years that I know of.
So, you know, WTF, right?
But this tune, Adventures in Paradise with Miss Alice Russell.
I'm going to play it for you.
Right after that, sort of a spoken word jazz number from Carl B.
Stokes and the Oliver Nelson Orchestra.
Carl Stokes, excuse me, he was in the late 60s.
He was a mayor of Cleveland, Ohio.
The first, I believe, the first African-American mayor in the U.S.
Sit Down is the name of the tune that you're going to hear.
It's from the band, I got that from a pretty cool compilation called Liberation Music, Spiritual Jazz and the Art of Protest.
And that was all music that was released in the late 60s on the old Flying Dutchman label.
I got a couple other twists and turns after that.
So put your feet up, take your shoes off.
It's all gravy from here on out.
Do you have any drinks?
I believe any dream that I want to That ain't the only way of keeping hope alive If by chance I give birth to my vision Life is so fantastic, it will come as no surprise Every day is adventure in paradise Swim and swim through the valley of time Time I believe I am free, let it free me That ain't the only way of getting past the giant Every day, something magical passes Sunshine on my body, rainbows Looming in the sky Every day is adventure in paradise It is real, if it's all we see in the eye My My Ooh!
I believe any dream that I want to That ain't the only way of keeping hope alive If by chance I give birth to my vision Life is so fantastic, it will come as no surprise Every day is adventure in paradise Swim and swim through the valley of time Time Time!
Every day is adventure in paradise Swim and swim through the valley of time Adventure in paradise Swim and swim through the valley of time Adventure in paradise Adventure in paradise!
Every day is adventure in paradise Cause every day, cause every day, I rejoice.
Why don't you sit down?
I can't sit down.
Sit down, I told you, I can't sit down.
Go away, don't bother me, I can't sit down.
Cause I just got to heaven and I can't sit down.
Who's that yonder dressed in white?
I just got to heaven and I can't sit down.
Looks like the children of the Israelites.
I just got to heaven and I can't sit down.
Who's that yonder dressed in red?
I just got to heaven and I can't sit down.
It looks like the children of Moses lay.
I just got to heaven and I can't sit down.
Why don't you sit down?
I can't sit down.
Go away, don't bother me, I can't sit down.
Cause I just got to heaven and I can't sit down.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
It takes a little time, baby.
It takes a little time.
It takes a little time.
Yeah.
Oh.
Loved Ones, this is a program that we do here from the We Play Radio studios.
And believe me, Loved Ones, there is no profit in this whatsoever.
I don't have major sponsors.
I don't sell airtime.
It's just something I've been doing for a while.
And Mr. Jeremy Hansen at the We Play Radio studios, he's been doing it for a while.
And the goal is just to bring you original content, you know, through some of the other programs you may have heard at We Play Radio studios, like the Very Manic Jimmy Cab Show and some other ones.
This is all out of pocket for us, right?
Right.
My thing is I love music.
And particularly, I love soul music.
Soul and funk and all the soul roots music, you know, like reggae, hip-hop and such.
It is our music.
It's an American art form, right?
And it takes on, through the years, there's been different evolutionary scales, right?
And it's an American art form.
It belongs to you.
It belongs to me.
And it's through a shared experience that I'm hoping to connect with you through this music.
And so I hope you like it.
We Play Radio studios is moving.
And so I'm not sure of our new location or what's going to go on.
If you happen to know of a secure location or you happen to know a webcast or broadcast network, you would like to join forces.
Or you have a location or something like that.
Absolutely.
Please let us know.
As well as any other comments, concerns, questions, queries, reflections and such.
You can always reach out to me at latacoradio at gmail.com.
Again, the email is latacoradio at gmail.com.
Of course, you can find us on Facebook.
Just type in the LA Taco Radio words.
And that selection will come up.
Thank you.
Loved ones, I want to play some more music for you.
Hope you're hanging out.
How about some Brown Out?
Chaffa Khan will be the name of the tune I'm playing for you.
This goes back to 2008.
From their LP, Hamana Hay.
That is out on the Freestyle Records label.
Brown Out from Austin, Texas.
Loved ones, if you get a chance to see this band live, you must do so.
Brown Out.
It's a good event.
As a matter of fact, I think they've been touring over the last year, year and a half or so.
They did a collection of Black Sabbath covers called Brown Sabbath.
And it works, man.
It works.
I'm an old metalhead, so, you know, I know what I'm talking about.
They do a really good job with it.
They give a small Black Sabbath tune.
And they gave it a little bit of that Latin funk kind of edge.
And it's very powerful with the horns and such.
So, check it out.
After that, I'm going to play Gloria Ann Taylor.
Going back, I'm not sure when this was originally released.
Sometime in the 70s, between 71 and 77.
I know this because I got it from her collection of highlights from that era.
She wasn't a very well-known artist.
Because she only excluded...
She only exclusively released through her husband's record label.
Not a major label.
And the good folks, the fine folks, the upright folks over at Ubiquity Recordings have re-released a bunch of the highlights of her career on an LP called Love is a Hurting Thing.
The tune we're going to hear is Deep Inside You.
It is the seven-inch version of that song.
She comes as an interesting gal.
She comes from a coal mining town in Virginia.
And it's good, honest, and dramatic music from Miss Gloria Ann Taylor.
We'll do a couple other turns after that.
So, I hope you have a beverage in front of you.
Or if not, I hope you have a little bit of ice cream on this hot, hot summer day.
And enjoy.
Thank you.

Here it is, a groove slightly transformed Just a bit of a break from the norm Just a little something to break the monotony Of all that hardcore dance That has gotten to be a little bit out of control It's cool to dance, but what about a groove That soothes and moves romance?
Give me a soft, subtle mix And if it ain't broke, then don't try to fix it And think of the summers of the past Adjust the bass and let the alpine blast Pop in my CD and let me run a rhyme And put your car on cruise Then everybody back because it's summertime Summer, summer, summertime Do you need work from home?

School is out and it's sort of a buzz But back then I didn't really know what it was But now I see what habit is The way that people respond to summer madness The weather is hot and girls are dressing less Than checking out the fellas to tell them who's best Riding around in your Jeep or your Benzos Or in your Nissan sitting on Lorenzos Back in Philly we be out in the park A place called the Plateau is where everybody go Guys out hunting and girls doing likewise Honking at the honey in front of you with the light eyes She turn around and see what you beaving at It's like the summer's a natural aphrodisiac And with a pen and pad I compose this rhyme To hit you when to get you equipped for the summertime Summer, summer, summertime Summer, summer, summertime Summer, summer, summertime Summer, summer, summertime Summer, summer, summertime Summer, summer, summertime It's late in the day and I ain't been on the court yet Hustle to the mall to get me a short set Yeah, I got on sneaks but I need a new pair Cause basketball, of course, and the summer got girls there The temperature's about 88 Hop in the water plug just for old time's sake Break to your crib, change your clothes once more Cause you're invited to a barbecue to startin' at four Sitting with your friends as y'all reminisce About the days growing up and the first person you kissed And as I think back makes me wonder How the smell from a grill can spark up nostalgia All the kids playing out front Little boys messing around with the girls playing double dutch While the DJ's spinning a tune As the old folks dance at your family reunion Then six o'clock rolls around You just finished wiping your car down It's time to cruise, so you go to the summertime Hang out, it looks like a car show Everybody come looking real fine Fresh from the barbershop or fly through the beauty salon Every moment from the barbershop to the beauty salon Cuttin' and massin' Chillin' in the car they spend all day waxin' Leanin' to the side, but you can't speed through Two miles an hour, so everybody sees you There's an air of love and of happiness And this is the Fresh Prince's new definition of summer madness Summer, summer, summertime Summer time Just take back and unwind Unwind Summer, summer, summertime Summer time Just take back and unwind Unwind Summer, summer, summertime Do you understand me?

It has been, like I said earlier, it has been my pleasure and privilege to play some good Soul Roots music for you.
I hope you enjoyed it.
I hope you liked all the past programs.
Onward and upward, I hope to find a new home for the studios here at We Play Radio Studios and my show, LA Taco Radio in particular.
Whatever, I just want to encourage you to, if you hear this program, if you hear my voice right now, that means you're probably a music lover.
And so I want you to keep it going.
And, you know, I want you to talk about music.
I want you to play music for other people.
And more importantly, the artists that you do enjoy, I want you to buy their music.
I want you to go out and see the shows and spend money on them.
And let's keep it going for them.
And let's allow them to provide their gifts for us, you know, this great music that we enjoy.
And thank you so much for coming past.
And I hope to speak with you soon.
Again, loved ones, if you need to email me for any reason, please do so at latacoradio at gmail.com.
Thank you, loved ones.
I feel like I never felt.
Oh, yeah, you want to be.
Thank you.
